Mary's Place Campground Introduce
Nestled in the picturesque valley of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, Mary's Place Campground is consistently recognized by local travelers and those on epic road trips as a true "hidden gem." This RV park and campground offers a welcoming and beautifully maintained environment that sets a high standard for a relaxing stay in Southeast Idaho. More than just a place to park your rig, Mary's Place provides a community atmosphere with hosts who are frequently praised for their helpfulness and dedication to the grounds' impeccable condition.
Known for its lush, soft green grass and sites shaded by very large trees, the campground provides a tranquil escape that feels much more serene than typical, crowded RV parks. It is situated alongside the beautiful Portneuf River, providing the soothing sounds of running water as a perfect backdrop to your Idaho getaway. What's more, the campground is owned and operated by the Bannock County Deputy Sheriff's Association Inc., functioning as a non-profit organization. This means all revenue generated is reinvested directly back into the campground, funding continuous improvements like all-new power, sewer, and water lines completed since 2010.
Mary's Place is dedicated to providing an enjoyable experience for both RVers and tent campers, offering a range of sites to suit different needs. The overall environment is family-friendly, encouraging a respectful and fun atmosphere for all guests. The hosts work diligently to keep the entire facility "sparkling," ensuring your focus remains on relaxation and enjoying the natural surroundings.
The campground’s location is arguably one of its greatest assets. Mary's Place is situated at 300 Bristol Park Ln, Lava Hot Springs, ID 83246, USA. It is perfectly positioned to offer the quiet and beauty of a country setting while being just a short walk from the central attractions of Lava Hot Springs.
Accessing the park is straightforward. From Interstate 15, travelers take Exit 47 at McCammon and follow US 30 East for approximately 11 miles into Lava Hot Springs. While tucked away from the main hustle and bustle, a significant feature is the convenient pedestrian access to the hot springs and downtown area. Campers can take a pleasant, short walk, often involving a cool suspension bridge, to reach the famous hot pools, river tubing launch points, and local eateries. This walking distance convenience means you can leave your vehicle parked securely at your site while you explore the town.
The environment is surrounded by the Portneuf River, though the RV sites are elevated approximately 30 feet above the river, providing a natural barrier from some external noise like the nearby road and train tracks, which often affect other campgrounds in the valley. While river access is not permitted directly from the property due to safety and conservation efforts (there is a fence line), there are noted public trails nearby that lead down to the water, including a spot where a hot spring naturally enters the river.
Mary's Place Campground excels in offering a complete package of services and hookups, allowing guests to enjoy their stay with comfort and ease.
- Full RV Hookups: Almost all RV sites are full hookup, providing RV water hookup, RV electric hookup, and sewer connections. This includes a variety of options for 30-amp and 50-amp service, accommodating rigs of nearly all sizes.
- Clean Restrooms and Showers: The park provides sparkling clean bathroom and shower facilities with plenty of hot water, a feature highly praised by numerous guests. Portable toilets are also scattered throughout the campground for added convenience.
- Tent Camping: Dedicated tent sites are available, particularly along the river, often situated beneath large cottonwood trees for ample shade. These tent sites typically include electric hookups.
- Camp Host Assistance: Attentive and friendly camp hosts are available on duty to assist guests, often going "above and beyond" by guiding campers into their sites and helping with leveling.
- On-Site Wi-Fi: The campground offers Wi-Fi access to help you stay connected during your stay.
- Payment Options: Camping fees can be paid using debit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover), making the reservation and payment process flexible.
- Pet-Friendly Policy: Dogs are allowed, provided they are well-behaved, kept on a leash, and cleaned up after immediately. There is a two-dog maximum per site.
The distinctive features of Mary's Place Campground contribute significantly to the highly positive experiences reported by local Idaho travelers and visitors.
- Exceptional Hosts: The staff and hosts are consistently noted for their professionalism, friendliness, and dedication to guest satisfaction. They actively work to keep the grounds manicured and assist with setting up, creating a truly welcoming environment.
- Lush, Shaded Sites: The campground features beautifully maintained, soft green grass and plenty of shade from very large trees, offering a significant advantage over many dusty or sparse RV parks in the region.
- Walkability to Attractions: The unbeatable convenience of being a five-minute walk to the world-famous Lava Hot Springs pools, river tubing, and downtown shops—often via a scenic suspension bridge—is a major highlight.
- Spacious Layout (Relatively): While some sites are noted to be cozy during peak season, many sites have plenty of room between campers, helping to ensure a comfortable stay. The RV sites are generally well-sized to accommodate a wide range of vehicles.
- Fire Pits Available: While not every site has an in-ground fire pit, numerous sites do. Moreover, the campground rents out portable, above-ground fire pits for a small fee, or you may bring your own approved, store-bought, above-ground unit.
- River Ambiance: The proximity to the Portneuf River provides a peaceful, soothing atmosphere with the constant, relaxing sound of the water.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I literally cannot figure out why this place has only 3.8 stars. We booked a night and then ended up deciding to stay the weekend this past weekend. The location is perfect and the rates are much better than the KOAs. The campsites have such lush soft green grass, and there's plenty of room between campers. When we arrived, we checked in and then were guided into our site by one of the hosts. Both hosts were so helpful and friendly! The bathrooms and showers were sparkling with plenty of hot water. The only downside to this place was you can't get into the river from the property (but there's ways around this), and you can't fish if there's tent campers (which there were that weekend). But there's a trail past the fence line that goes down to the river where you can get in and there's even a hot spring there, so it was fine. This one was definitely our favorite RV campsite of our epic road trip!
August 27 · Coral RichlineLet us start with the negative. ...... I got nothing. First place on the trip where the camp host guided me into the spot and helped me back into ( No i do not need help backing in....most of the time) helped me get it level. Tried to give him a beer but he said he was still on duty. The showers are amazingly clean and one of the great parts is that most of the camp is in the shade of very large trees.
August 20 · Jim LMary's is our absolute favorite full hook up campground for family camping trips!! Every site is shaded, large, and grassy!! The hosts are absolutely awesome... Always making sure the campers get into their sites ok and don't have any issues. To include picking up garbage every day and dropping off ice or firewood, if needed. We will definitely be back!!
June 14 · Sharon HamiltonJust spent a few days here and it's a fantastic campground!! All grassy with lots of shade, not like the other campgrounds that have more concrete and blacktop than grass. Campground hosts (Kevin and Marie) were amazing! Kept the place super clean and very well taken care of. This is now my only go to campground in Lava Hot Springs!
July 18 · Julie HOk, this place is awesome, so awesome I selfishly don't want to review so it's raiser for me to book a site when I come back.First thing you do is check in with the camp host. They are past helpful and friendly. The whole weekend we visited with them. They let our kids play with their dog, and they were always around checking on everyone.Next, the sites, these are NOICE! I mean wow! All the grass is green and well kept, while I'm personally allergic to Cottonwood trees, the trees here are huge, I mean huge (go ahead, say it like Trump) they give great shade and aren't in the way.Full hookups at every site are always greatly appreciated! Then the over all location to Lava. This place has a walking trail from the camp site to Main St. You leave your RV and you're at the hot springs in 5 minutes. They just renovated the main A Frame bathrooms and they are great, the showers are nice and they are well maintained.
