It's an ideal choice for those who appreciate being steps away from city attractions while enjoying the comforts of their recreational vehicle.
Lakehead Boat Basin stands out from traditional campgrounds by offering a more urban and maritime setting. Imagine waking up to the sounds of the harbor, with ships passing by and the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge in clear view. This isn't your typical wooded retreat; it's an immersive experience that puts you at the epicenter of Duluth's shipping and tourism activity. As one delighted RVer shared, it's a "very interesting place to 'camp'… in the heart of the harbor."
The emphasis at Lakehead Boat Basin is on providing clean, well-maintained facilities and a friendly atmosphere, ensuring that even in an urban environment, RVers have everything they need for a comfortable stay. This article will delve into what makes Lakehead Boat Basin a "hidden gem" for locals in Minnesota looking for a truly unique RV adventure in Duluth.
Lakehead Boat Basin is perfectly situated at 1000 Minnesota Ave, Duluth, MN 55802, USA. This address places it directly on Park Point, a narrow sand spit that separates Lake Superior from the Duluth-Superior Harbor. The location offers unparalleled proximity to some of Duluth's most iconic landmarks and bustling attractions.
For Minnesotans, accessibility to Lakehead Boat Basin is straightforward. Minnesota Avenue is the main thoroughfare on Park Point, connecting directly to the city via the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge. While navigating the bridge and the immediate Canal Park area can be busy, especially during peak tourist seasons, the access to the boat basin itself is manageable for RVs. Once on Park Point, the road leads directly to the marina, ensuring a relatively stress-free arrival.
The key highlight of this location is its incredible proximity to major Duluth attractions. RVers staying at Lakehead Boat Basin can "easily walk to the Aerial Lift Bridge," which is a marvel of engineering and a constant source of fascination as ships pass beneath it. Beyond the bridge lies the vibrant Canal Park district, offering a plethora of dining options, unique shops, museums, and entertainment venues. The Lakewalk, a scenic pedestrian and bike path, is also easily accessible, providing miles of picturesque views along Lake Superior.
This urban waterfront setting provides a stark contrast to typical wooded campgrounds, appealing to those who desire an RV experience that blends outdoor living with metropolitan excitement. For locals, it's a convenient and exciting way to explore their own world-class city from a unique vantage point, making it an ideal base for a Duluth staycation or a weekend adventure.

Had a great stay with our RV at the basin. Very interesting place to “camp” (water & electricity hookups) in the heart of the harbor. Facility is very clean and well maintained. Excellent shower and laundry facilities. Can easily walk to the arial lift bridge.
Jun 09, 2025 · Carel AllenI almost don't want to tell you about them so I can keep this hidden gem to myself!!! Except Jodi and her family are so lovely I want all the people to give them all the business!!!We've come here enough that our kids have built a comfort in being at the marina and that in and of itself is worth it.Bathroom and laundry and the Fairfield Inn, dumpster for the garbage, all I have to do is park and enjoy my time?!? #PerfectionUpdated, 2025: shower and laundry now are available 7a-7p. Otherwise, my original review stands and we are more in love with this place than we were the first time. :)
Jun 07, 2025 · Shanna LarsonWe had the best stay at Lakehead Boat Basin! The owners Joel and Jodi were so friendly and accommodating and Tony was incredibly helpful! We've been dealing with a lot of plumbing issues and everyone had such great advice and were really able to help us out.The location is perfect to Downtown Duluth and we enjoyed walking over the aerial bridge. It is a unique experience watching it lift!Yes, the RV park is in a parking lot, but it made for a unique camping experience and didn't make a difference for us. The spaces are wide, but larger RVs may have more of a challenge backing in (we have a 30ft. Class C Motorhome with no tow vehicle and didn't have any problems). The bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities are maintained by the hotel and are extremely nice and clean. We met a lot of friendly people while staying here and found out that many people stay here year after year. I highly suggest booking a stay here!
Sep 25, 2024 · Kelly DresslerWe stayed the night and booked a water and electric RV site and the host upgraded us to a full hookup site at no additional charge. RV office has some supplies if you forgot something. Shower, WiFi are included. Laundry room is available if needed. I would recommend if you are staying in the Duluth area, easy walk to downtown area restaurants and the views are amazing.
Jul 08, 2024 · Chad Van DykeWe LOVE staying at Lakehead Boat Basin with our RV, stayed several times, and have always loved the view and the convenience to all of the fun activities only blocks away. The owners are so kind and always try their best to accommodate even in last minute changes. Highly recommend!!
