Honestly, it wasn't too bad at first. It is rated 2 stars because we compared it to other places we had seen. We were not happy with their "helper" or whatever (J.P) was not very nice. He was alright at first, but after receiving some help (water bottles and a ride) we decided to take matters into our own hands and ride the bike to the store, he (or his wife) thought it was genius to gossip about it to the office. We weren't a fan of him and his wife treating us differently after that day. They began to cuss a lot more and generally not as kind as they were initially, and that's me being nice about it. All we wanted to do was not be so reliant on others (our vehicle broke down and had to be sent to the shop). There's nothing wrong with being independent, but apparently, they didn't like it. When we had to ask for a ride, (office told us to ask em regardless) JP told us to load up his propane and tie it off (not that big of a deal- helping out who helped us) but his wife driving like she has no driving experience, (or angry) slamming on the brakes and turning quickly, caused the propane to shift free of the straps and blamed my boy for his tying! Maybe don't drive so reckless with propane, then!! I had extreme anxiety just riding in her truck as she was driving in a 12 minute ride (24 roundtrip) to pick my boyfriend up.To top things off, our laundry kept getting moved around by others in the camp ground,(not cool) and some of our clothes were missing (definitely wasn't in the tiny camper we had). The button on the keypad kept falling off, and we couldn't access the laundry room and someone else had the nerve to put their dirty, sandy, stained clothes into our clean laundry bags with ours and left it there (at least this time it wasnt stolen). Sadly, it belonged to one of their workers (it had their hilltop lakes golf course shirt in it). So ya can't even trust any of their workers to be respectful.Bathroom upkeep was gross. It's like they never really cleaned it, but I just checked it (I've seen their cleaner show up a few times, but there was no change in the bathroom). I WISH I would've taken photos before leaving, the mirror seemed to be installed improperly, there's grime in the corners, toilets always dirty, and trash isn't consistently taken out. People smoking in the mens bathroom and we had to wash his clothes even if his bathroom trip was less than 5 minutes, it stunk so bad.Initially, we moved there for jobs since we saw their advertisement on the website. After applying, they said they did not have any jobs available for me but only for my boyfriend, and then changed their website...The first few nights there, I decided to shave the sides of my hair to keep cool for the texan summer, the lady at the front desk literally introduced me to her replacement, as my boyfriends gf "or whatever"!!! It's not like I was dressed as a boy or acting as one... She kept shooting me glances, her eyes sliding up and down my body with a sour look (I know the judgemental looks all too well since body language is literally my deaf culture) he clearly told her I was his girlfriend. Incredibly rude!!!I came in with my grandma since she stayed at the hotel for one night before we left Hilltop, and her demeanor in front of my grandma was completely different - FAKE!She calls my boyfriend to let him know she was going to be loaning a heater for the cold nights (finally something nice) within the hour or hour and half.... she shows up less than a half hour later while he was in the showers (1/10 communication). She rudely tried to open the door and peer inside my camper after I opened my door. I let her know that he was in the shower and didn't know what else she wanted me to do since she just stood there glancing behind me after handing me the heater. She treated me as though I had no idea how a simple plug-in heater works, told me to wait for him to plug it in for me... 🙄🙄🙄🙄Also, beware loose dogs chasing you. They dont leash their pets! Pics below show the house it came from and followed us on foot/bike/car. - Micia Burford
Indian Woods Campground Overview Intro Photos Location Reviews

Indian Woods Campground Introduce

For Texans seeking a break from the ordinary, a connection with nature, and an affordable place to park their RV, Indian Woods Campground in Normangee, Texas, presents a unique option. Located within the larger Hilltop Lakes community, this RV park caters to those who prioritize a rustic, quiet environment and access to outdoor activities over luxurious amenities and pristine facilities. It's a destination that promises a "serene and picturesque" escape, immersing visitors in the verdant landscapes of Central Texas.

Indian Woods Campground positions itself as a tranquil retreat, offering a chance to "escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in nature's tranquility." While it boasts access to a range of community amenities like lakes and golf courses, recent customer experiences highlight that visitors should arrive with a clear understanding of the park's basic nature and the variability in guest services. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and factual overview of Indian Woods Campground, drawing from available public information and customer feedback. We will cover its location and accessibility within the Hilltop Lakes community, the services it offers, its key features and highlights, and essential contact information, all to help local Texans make an informed decision about whether this park aligns with their RV travel or living needs.

The charm of Indian Woods Campground seems to lie in its simplicity and its integration into a larger, amenity-rich property owners association. However, a realistic understanding of its day-to-day operations and public facilities is crucial for a positive experience. It caters best to independent RVers who are primarily self-contained and value a quiet, natural setting for longer stays or quick overnight stops, particularly if visiting friends or family in Hilltop Lakes.

Indian Woods Campground is uniquely situated within the expansive Hilltop Lakes community, with its address listed generally as Normangee, TX 77871, USA. More specifically, public information indicates its address is 3 Hilltop Dr, Normangee, TX 77871. This location offers a secluded, wooded setting, truly "off the beaten path," providing a significant degree of peace and quiet away from major industrial noise or heavy traffic.

Accessibility to Indian Woods Campground requires navigating rural roads. It's approximately 10 miles from Normangee itself and about 38 miles from College Station. Visitors arriving from major interstates like I-45 will take specific exits (e.g., US 79 at Buffalo or OSR) and then follow state highways (FM3, FM39N) to reach the entrance of Hilltop Lakes. While the roads leading to the park are generally in good shape, they can be hilly and curvy, with wildlife such as deer and hogs, requiring careful driving.

The remoteness provides tranquility but means that essential services like groceries, gas, and restaurants are about 9 miles away in the nearest town. Larger stores like Walmart and more extensive entertainment options are approximately 45 miles away. This necessitates planning for supplies, especially for longer stays. For those visiting friends or family within Hilltop Lakes, the campground's integration into this larger community means easier access to internal amenities via a short golf cart ride or drive.

Indian Woods Campground provides basic, essential services for RVers, focusing on the core necessities for a comfortable stay in a natural setting. While some public facilities exist, recent customer reviews indicate they may not be consistently well-maintained. Here are the services generally offered:

  • RV Sites with Full Hookups: The campground offers 35 RV spots, providing essential water, electricity (30/50 amp), and sewer connections at each site. Two of these sites are pull-throughs, offering convenience for larger rigs.
  • Tent Sites: In addition to RV sites, there are 10 designated tent sites available for traditional camping.
  • Comfort Station (Bathhouse): A bathhouse is available with separate men's and women's quarters, each equipped with showers. However, reviews suggest issues with cleanliness, grime, dirty toilets, and inconsistent trash removal.
  • Laundry Room: A coin-operated laundry room with a washer and dryer is provided for guest use. Customer feedback, however, notes issues with cleanliness, a broken dryer, and instances of clothes being moved or mixed with others' laundry.
  • Courtesy Phone: An external courtesy phone accessible for emergency calls is located outside the comfort station.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: The park welcomes pets, though reviews mention issues with unleashed dogs and a lack of designated dog runs or pet facilities.
  • Playground and Pavilion: A playground for children and a pavilion for gatherings are available on-site.
  • Basic Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is advertised, with reviews indicating it can be "in and out" but generally "good enough for phone and computer" Browse, though streaming may be difficult. The Property Owners Association of Hilltop Lakes website mentions "WIFI" for guests.

The highlights of Indian Woods Campground often stem from its natural setting and its affiliation with the broader Hilltop Lakes community, rather than luxury amenities or perfect upkeep. It appeals to a specific type of RVer looking for a particular experience:

  • Secluded Natural Environment: Nestled within lush forests and vibrant wildlife, the campground offers a genuinely quiet and peaceful retreat, far from urban noise. This is ideal for those seeking to reconnect with nature, enjoy fresh air, and observe local wildlife.
  • Access to Hilltop Lakes Amenities: As part of the Hilltop Lakes community, campers have access to a wider range of recreational facilities (subject to rules and potential fees for non-members). These include five private lakes (for fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking), an 18-hole golf course, a Texas-shaped swimming pool, miniature golf, tennis courts, equestrian trails, and a restaurant. This offers diverse activities for all ages.
  • Affordable Rates: Reviews from previous years indicate relatively affordable nightly rates, making it an economical option for short-term and potentially longer stays, especially for those on a budget.
  • Rustic Charm for Self-Contained RVers: For RVers who are primarily self-sufficient with their own restroom facilities and prioritize a quiet, wooded setting over modern resort amenities, the park can be quite suitable.
  • Spacious and Shaded Sites: While some sites may be unlevel, many are described as spacious and shaded, particularly around the loop's perimeter, providing comfort during hot Texas summers.

However, it is crucial to temper expectations regarding cleanliness of public facilities and consistency of staff interaction, as highlighted in negative reviews. The "charms" are for those who appreciate the rustic nature and access to the Hilltop Lakes activities.

For those interested in Indian Woods Campground, contact information is available, primarily through the larger Hilltop Lakes community management:

Address: Normangee, TX 77871, USA (More specifically, 3 Hilltop Dr, Normangee, TX 77871)

Phone: (936) 855-2222

Mobile Phone: +1 936-855-2222

These numbers are associated with the Hilltop Lakes Welcome Center and Property Owners Association, which oversees the campground. Prospective visitors are strongly advised to call ahead to inquire about reservations, current rates, and any specific rules or guest passes required for accessing Hilltop Lakes amenities. Given some negative feedback regarding staff communication and public facility upkeep, it would be prudent to ask specific questions about the condition of the bathhouse and laundry, and clarify expectations regarding services and on-site assistance before arriving.

Indian Woods Campground can be suitable for certain Texans, particularly those who are self-reliant RVers seeking a tranquil, nature-filled escape at an affordable price, and who prioritize outdoor activities accessible within the larger Hilltop Lakes community. For Texans who own fully self-contained RVs and prefer to use their own facilities, the park offers a quiet base with access to fishing in five lakes, golf, swimming, and hiking trails.

It's an ideal spot for those visiting friends or family who reside in Hilltop Lakes, providing a convenient and economical place to stay nearby. The rustic charm and opportunities for outdoor recreation appeal to Texans who value a "country atmosphere" and a break from the typical urban environment. However, local Texans expecting well-maintained public restrooms, consistent and top-tier customer service, or high-speed internet for streaming should be aware of the park's limitations as described in some reviews. For the independent, budget-conscious RVer who cherishes natural surroundings and community recreational access, Indian Woods Campground can indeed serve as a pleasant and practical base for their Central Texas adventures.
