Highland Falls RV Park & Marina aims to provide a convenient base for exploring the historic and natural beauty of the Hudson Valley. While it presents some distinct characteristics that RVers should be aware of, its prime location and core amenities make it a viable option for those planning their next adventure. It's a place where the charm of the Hudson River meets the practicality of RV travel, offering a different kind of retreat for local New Yorkers and visitors alike.
Understanding the specific offerings and environment of Highland Falls RV Park & Marina is key to planning a successful stay. This article will delve into what makes this RV park stand out, from its location and accessibility to the services and features it provides, ensuring you have a comprehensive understanding before you embark on your journey.
Location and Accessibility
Highland Falls RV Park & Marina is strategically situated at 72 Station Hill, Highland Falls, NY 10928, USA. This address places it directly on the banks of the majestic Hudson River, offering unparalleled water views for many of its sites. The park's proximity to the river is a significant draw, allowing guests to enjoy the serene waterfront environment.
The location in Highland Falls is particularly notable for its closeness to the United States Military Academy at West Point. This makes it an ideal spot for those visiting cadets, attending events, or simply wishing to explore the rich history and impressive architecture of this renowned institution. Beyond West Point, the area surrounding Highland Falls is brimming with historical sites, scenic hiking trails, and charming small towns, all easily accessible for day trips.
However, prospective visitors should be aware of some accessibility considerations. Reviews from past guests indicate that navigating to the park can be challenging, particularly for larger RVs. Routes like 9W, SR 293, and a portion of Route 6 are generally suitable. However, Route 218 (Mountain Road) from 9W is posted for a 5-ton maximum, and there's a bridge coming from Newburgh on 9W with a clearance of 12'10". It is advisable to plan your route carefully and consider alternative access points if your RV is particularly large. The park is also situated near active train tracks, with trains running frequently both alongside the park and across the river, which can result in noticeable train noise day and night. This is an important detail for those sensitive to noise during their stay.
Services Offered
- Full Hookups: The park provides full hookups for RVs, including electric (50/30/20 amp), water, and sewer connections, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay.
- 24-Hour Security: For peace of mind, Highland Falls RV Park & Marina offers 24-hour security.
- Free WiFi Internet: Guests can stay connected with complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout the park.
- Restrooms: Restroom facilities are available on-site for guest use. (Note: While the website may mention shower houses, some reviews indicate that a shower house may not be available or fully functional.)
- Marina Access: As the name suggests, the park is associated with a marina, which could offer additional services or access to the Hudson River for boating enthusiasts, though specific marina services like slips or boat rentals are not explicitly detailed for guests of the RV park.
- Pet-Friendly (with restrictions): Dogs are generally allowed but must be leashed at all times. It's always best to confirm specific pet policies directly with the park.
Features / Highlights
- Riverside Location: The most prominent feature is its direct location on the Hudson River, offering scenic views and a tranquil atmosphere for many sites.
- Proximity to West Point: Being within walking distance of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a major highlight, providing easy access to its attractions and events.
- Historical Setting: The main building of the park is reported to be the historic Highland Falls train station, adding a unique historical element to your stay.
- Variety of Nearby Attractions: The park serves as a gateway to numerous local attractions beyond West Point, including Bear Mountain State Park, Woodbury Commons Factory Outlets, the Historic Museum of Hudson Valley, Brotherhood Winery, Washington Headquarters, Storm King Arts Center, and more. This makes it a convenient hub for exploring the wider Hudson Valley.
- Cash Payment: It is important to note that payment for stays is typically cash only, with a rate of $100 per day.
- Site Characteristics: While the park offers hookups, guest reviews indicate that sites can be narrow, with RVs positioned very close to each other, potentially limiting awning space. Not all sites offer a direct river view, and some areas might show signs of wear, with a bit of trash or junk strewn about. There are no picnic tables provided at the sites.
- Train Activity: The close proximity to active train tracks, both beside the park and across the river, means that train noise is a consistent feature of the environment.

Highland Falls RV Park & Marina Reviews
Please read the reviews. If you have no other option, it can work out.Pluses: it’s on the river. It has hookups. The lady was nice.Challenges: Trains run 25 feet from RVs 10+ times a day and night, plus trains run across the river and they’re surprisingly loud. Sites are very narrow, thus RVs are super close where the awning may not fully open. No picnic table. No shower house, despite website claim. Of the ~12 sites, around half half have a view. It’s $100 cash. There’s a bit of trash and junk strewn about.
Jun 07, 2024 · Scott MayWent down to take a look at the old train station and the river. Very Nice, But A lady came out of the station and afterstating my business told me the area was Private Property! Left soon after. Lovely Spot, Lots of History but if your not parking your RV there- You're Not Welcome!

Mar 30, 2023 · Olga Fernandes de Moura LeiteIf you don't mind the trains that pass every hour it's a nice stop with a beautiful view during the day. But be careful on the drive up at night.
