Granite Mountain Resort at Yosemite

RV park ★3.0

42484 CA-41, Oakhurst, CA 93644, USA

3.0
I don’t know where all the previous reviews thought they were staying, but this place is basically a dirt/sand/gravel parking lot with power and water. I’d give it one star but it does have a clean bathroom and not to far from YNP. This place is Janky. Old shredded tires divide the rv spots, and unless you are in the middle section you would be 4 feet from the next camper. Coming in off the hwy it is steep, a worn out pitted falling apart asphalt. The main building and balcony handrails all around the bathroom are all old peeling paint. $75 (88 with tax) a night for this is beyond ridiculous. There is not anyone in an office, you pay online/scan a QR code to “check in”. Spots are barely marked so other than finding our number on the electrical box, good luck. No Wi-Fi, and Verizon service is a bit spotty tho shows 3 bars LTE. Your right above the hwy so constant road noise. Glad it’s only a one night stay- won’t again. Won’t let me add a pic, will try when I get home and have better cell service. - Amber Duke

Granite Mountain Resort at Yosemite Introduce

Welcome to this candid and informative local guide about **Granite Mountain Resort at Yosemite**, an RV park situated in Oakhurst, California—a key gateway community to the iconic Yosemite National Park. For RV travelers, backpackers, and California residents seeking a convenient, last-minute stop near the park’s south entrance, this location provides the fundamental services needed for a stay, though with a distinct, rustic feel that sets it apart from traditional resorts. This article aims to provide a factual and balanced overview of the park based on available public information and recent customer experiences.

The primary function of Granite Mountain Resort is to offer **RV camping** with essential utilities. It serves as a necessary basecamp for those visiting the Yosemite area, especially when more established campgrounds are fully booked, which is often the case during peak California travel seasons. As a purely utilitarian spot, the park focuses on the basic requirements: providing sites with **RV electric hookup** and **RV water hookup** and offering **on-site parking**.

However, potential guests should set expectations for a no-frills, highly independent experience. Recent customer feedback consistently indicates that the resort operates with an online, minimal-staff model, where check-in requires guests to **pay online** or **scan a QR code**, and spots are often marked only by the number on the electrical box. This method of operation means there is typically **not anyone in an office** for immediate, in-person assistance. While the essential facilities are functional, some reviews highlight challenges with site conditions, including gravel/sand lots, close proximity to neighbors (as little as **four feet from the next camper**), and proximity to highway noise. Despite these reports of a run-down appearance and basic aesthetic, the presence of a **clean bathroom** is a consistent point of praise, providing a reliable amenity for all guests.

Location and Accessibility

Granite Mountain Resort at Yosemite is located at **42484 CA-41, Oakhurst, CA 93644, USA**. This address places it directly on **California State Route 41**, the main artery leading straight into Yosemite National Park via the South Entrance, making its location highly strategic and valuable for park access. Being right on the highway, however, means guests should expect **constant road noise**. The resort is situated in Oakhurst, the last major town before the park entrance, providing easy access to all the town’s amenities, including restaurants, grocery stores, and tourist services.

Accessibility features are present, ensuring that the facility is compliant with basic standards. The park offers a **Wheelchair accessible entrance**, **Wheelchair accessible parking lot**, and a **Wheelchair accessible restroom**. The terrain, however, should be noted, as the entrance off the highway is described as **steep**, and the asphalt is reported to be **worn out, pitted, and falling apart**. Guests with larger rigs or those concerned about steep approaches should exercise caution upon arrival. The immediate proximity to the highway is a double-edged sword: highly convenient for a quick drive to the park but contributing to ambient noise levels.

Services Offered
The services at Granite Mountain Resort are focused on providing essential utilities for RVs and fundamental sanitary facilities, emphasizing utility over luxury or resort-style amenities.

Core services and provisions for guests include:

  • **RV Hookups:** Sites include **RV electric hookup** (power) and **RV water hookup** (**Running water**) for necessary utility connections.
  • **Sanitary Facilities:** Access to a **Public restroom** and general **Restroom** facilities, which are reported as being **clean**, despite other challenges at the park.
  • **Payment Processing:** Accepting **Credit cards** for payment of the camping fee, with a required **online/QR code check-in** and payment system.
  • **Parking:** Providing **On-site parking** for both RVs and accompanying vehicles.
  • **Basic Site Markers:** Sites are minimally marked, often only by the number found on the electrical box.
  • **Self-Service Model:** The primary operating model relies on guests using the self-service online check-in and managing their own site needs due to the absence of staff in an on-site office.

Features and Highlights
The main highlights of Granite Mountain Resort are purely based on its functional location and core amenities that allow for a basic, self-sufficient stay in a high-demand area.

Key features that are worth highlighting:

  • **Proximity to Yosemite National Park (YNP):** The most significant feature is its strategic location **not too far from YNP**, making it a primary choice for convenient access to the park's south entrance.
  • **Functional Utilities:** Sites offer reliable **power and water** hookups, which are essential for any RV stay.
  • **Clean Restrooms:** Despite other reported cleanliness issues on the grounds (e.g., goat head weeds, trash), the **clean bathroom** facility is a crucial and consistently praised amenity.
  • **Accessibility Compliance:** Offers basic **Wheelchair accessible** features in the entrance, parking, and restroom areas.
  • **24/7 Self Check-in:** The online/QR code check-in process allows for **non-staffed, flexible arrival times**, which is convenient for travelers arriving late.
  • **Immediate Oakhurst Access:** Being right above the highway means a very short drive to Oakhurst's shops, fuel, and restaurants.

Contact Information
While the park operates with minimal on-site staff, the management can be reached directly via phone for reservations, payment issues, or urgent concerns, as the check-in process is conducted remotely.

You can reach Granite Mountain Resort at Yosemite directly at the following contact points:

  • **Address:** 42484 CA-41, Oakhurst, CA 93644, USA
  • **Phone:** (559) 683-8383
  • **Mobile Phone (for convenience):** +1 559-683-8383
Given the self-service nature of the park, prospective guests are strongly encouraged to use the online reservation system and have their site number confirmed before arrival, as there is no central office with staff readily available on the property.

What Is Worth Choosing
Choosing Granite Mountain Resort at Yosemite is primarily about prioritizing **location and necessity** over traditional resort comfort and services. What makes this RV park worth choosing for California travelers is its unrivaled **proximity to Yosemite National Park** and its availability when other, higher-end options are fully booked. It successfully provides the absolute essentials—power, water, and a clean public restroom—which is often all that is needed for a self-contained RV trip, especially an overnight stop.

Travelers must be prepared for a **"janky"** and basic experience, marked by close sites, highway noise, and a completely self-service model, including a steep, worn-out entrance road. However, for the person who values an immediate, available spot near the south entrance of YNP, is comfortable troubleshooting minor issues (like using an adjacent electrical box if one's is faulty), and doesn't rely on Wi-Fi or on-site staff, this RV park serves its practical purpose. It is a functional, albeit expensive for its current state, last-minute solution for accessing one of California’s most popular destinations, ensuring you can park close and be ready for your Yosemite adventure the next morning.
