This article provides an overview of Getaway RV Park in Stephenville, TX, offering a factual and engaging look at what you can expect from this establishment. We understand that local users prioritize convenience, comfort, and clear information when planning their travels, and our aim is to present a balanced picture based on publicly available data and customer experiences. Situated in the heart of Texas, Stephenville serves as a significant crossroads, making its RV park options particularly relevant to many Texas travelers.
Getaway RV Park positions itself as a practical option for RVers traveling through or seeking a base in the Stephenville area. While one customer experienced an emergency, noting the park's 24-hour availability and ease of access off US-281, another review highlights significant concerns regarding pricing consistency, site conditions, and refund processes. It's described as a "dusty RV park" but also praised for being "quiet," suggesting a peaceful atmosphere despite some maintenance challenges. The ability to pull off the highway, hook up, and get a night's sleep swiftly, especially in an emergency, indicates a key convenience for travelers. However, potential visitors should be aware of reported issues such as electrical box sparking and difficulties in receiving refunds, alongside discrepancies in quoted versus charged rates. This blend of experiences underscores the importance of direct communication with park management to confirm details before committing to a stay.
Getaway RV Park is strategically located at 1345 US-281, Stephenville, TX 76401, USA. US-281 is a primary north-south highway that serves as a vital artery through Central Texas, making this RV park exceptionally accessible for travelers navigating the state. Stephenville, often known as the "Cowboy Capital of the World," is a vibrant city with a mix of rural charm and essential urban conveniences.
The park's direct frontage on US-281 is a significant advantage for RVers. This prominent location allows for easy pull-off and entry, which is particularly beneficial for large rigs and those traveling late at night or in unforeseen circumstances, as highlighted by a customer who experienced an emergency. This ease of access minimizes the stress of navigating unfamiliar roads. While being right off a major highway, the park is still described as "peaceful" by some, suggesting a balance between accessibility and a relatively quiet environment. Its proximity to Stephenville means guests have convenient access to local amenities such as fuel stations, grocery stores, dining options, and other services that RV travelers often require, ensuring that necessities are always within reach during their stay in this part of Texas.
Getaway RV Park provides core services typical of RV parks, designed to accommodate both short-term and potentially longer-term stays. Based on customer feedback and general RV park offerings, these services include:
- RV sites for parking, with varying degrees of shade available.
- Full hookups at sites, including electrical connections (30 and 50 amp service), water, and sewer. (Note: One customer reported issues with a "sparking" electrical box, indicating that utility reliability can be a concern at times).
- Access for large rigs, allowing for convenient pull-off from the highway.
- Management presence for check-ins and addressing issues. (Note: Customer experiences regarding responsiveness and resolution of issues like refunds vary significantly.)
- A quiet environment, as noted by a reviewer, contributing to a peaceful stay.
Based on the provided customer reviews, Getaway RV Park offers a mix of features and highlights, some of which are positive and others that warrant caution for prospective visitors.
- Convenient Highway Access: Its location directly on US-281 makes it an incredibly easy and convenient stop for RVers, especially those needing a quick overnight stay or facing unexpected travel issues.
- 24-Hour Availability (as per website): One reviewer noted the park's advertised 24-hour availability, which was crucial during an emergency, suggesting a level of readiness for late arrivals.
- Peaceful Atmosphere: Despite being a "dusty" park and located off a major highway, a customer highlighted its "quiet" nature, which contributed positively to their stay.
- Abundance of Trees: The park is described as having "lots of trees," which contributes to a more natural and potentially shaded environment, a valuable feature in the Texas heat.
- On-site Management: The presence of a manager (Jay) who addressed an electrical issue demonstrates an on-site team capable of addressing immediate concerns, even if through improvised solutions.
However, it is crucial to address the challenges highlighted in customer feedback, which should be considered when assessing features:
- Inconsistent Pricing: A significant concern raised was the discrepancy between quoted monthly rates and the amount actually charged, leading to a higher cost than expected for some residents.
- Refund Difficulties: One customer reported significant delays and unresponsiveness from management regarding a refund for an early departure, explicitly linking the delay to a negative online review. This raises concerns about customer service and fair business practices.
- Electrical Issues: The reported incident of a "sparking" electrical box requiring on-the-spot repair indicates potential maintenance issues with critical utilities.
- Dusty Conditions: The description of the park as "dusty" suggests potential for discomfort, especially during dry Texas seasons.

Getaway RV Park Reviews
I was quoted by Nathan $490 a month and told I would get the last shady spot available. It's only partially shaded and was told rent was $475 by a few residents. When my husband went to pay our second month we were charged $500. It's a dusty RV park but quiet and that adds a star. Caution when plugging in your RV we had to let the manager Jay know that something was wrong because the box started to spark. He was able to Frankenstein parts off another box to fix it. Thankfully this is only a temporary place for us. Updated 09/16/2022 I've called and texted requesting a refund due to leaving early and I still haven't received anything since 08/21/2022 when the manager told me the amount I am due but never sent the money.09/18/2022 Nathan Casey sent me a text advising that due to this "bad review" I will have to wait to be refunded the $161 owed to me. He wants this post removed BUT I will not remove it until I am sent my money.
Oct 19, 2022 · Bernadette RodriguezAmazingly nice, friendly, helpful people manage this RV Park. We were on our way back to Oklahoma from the Gulf Coast going north on 281. Around Stephenville about dark, we experienced a bit of an emergency with the camper. Getaway had posted on their website that they are open 24 hours. We were conveniently able to pull off the highway, hook up, get a good night's sleep and look the situation over the next morning. We woke up to a beautiful park, lots of trees, and very peaceful. We were able to take care of the situation and get back on the road. I'm so grateful for a nice, clean facility right off the highway and good-hearted people who manage it.
Apr 10, 2023 · Jan TerryPark manager, Jay is super. He knows the area really well, he goes above and beyond to be available and assist in any way that makes your stay comfortable and easy. He's always working on the facilities; keeping the gravel drives smooth, grass mowed, fences safe, hook ups user friendly and garbage in it's place. There are pull thrus for those not comfortable backing in and trees! Seems like shade at the parks are the unicorns in this area. Short or long stay, i don't think you'll be disappointed in The Getaway.
Jan 08, 2022 · Jossie HawleyThis little park is an Oasis right outside the city. The spots are well shaded, the owner is friendly and the chickens rule the roost. I love the country, campground feel of the rv park. I appreciate the cleanliness and how well the grounds are maintained. Amenities are a bit lacking as there is no washroom/shower, there is however a laundry facility. It's a peaceful pleasant place to wake up to.
May 17, 2017 · Wendy RaffinThe Getaway is a great rv park, I have lived here about a year. David the owner is a great guy and is very good a making sure everyone is happy. The rv spots are shaded under groups of trees and it is nice and spaced out. The property is nice and well kept. It is dog friendly as well. I really enjoy staying here and recommend it to anyone.
