Candlestick RV Park

650 Gilman Ave, San Francisco, CA 94124, USA

2.0
We have been Rv'ing for 20 years. This is a park that has been lost. We first stayed here in 2009. The stadium was still here and the park was amazing. Plenty of space, full time security, and you could drive and walk along the bay around the stadium. I would easily rate it a 5 star. We came back in 2019. The stadium was gone and the park was packed with full-timers, who were possessive of every inch of space. The size of the park had been cut in half. Trucks and cars were parked everywhere, so we needed manager help to move vehicles to get both in and out of the spots. We are now here in June 2025. The park is again cut in size to about 1/4 the original size. The back lot is Little Juarez, with wrecked cars, old tires, car parts, and derilict RV's everywhere. Trash blows around...kids, cats and dogs roam free everywhere. The area where the stadium once was is blocked off, so no more walking or driving. The road in is abysmal, with cars parked in driving lanes for days on end. To top it off, we were charged $491 for 3 nights. Management is nice, but oblivious. They never answer the phone, and you have to leave a message for a reservation with your charge card. Read the other posts...sometimes they approve the charge but do not notify you, and then refuse to reverse the charge. This a park that has been lost. It is no longer worth the great location, and the price is offensive for the 3rd world experience. - John DuRant

Candlestick RV Park Introduce

Welcome to Candlestick RV Park, conveniently located at 650 Gilman Ave, San Francisco, CA 94124. For RV enthusiasts and travelers, finding a spot to park and settle in a major metropolitan area like San Francisco can be a significant challenge. Candlestick RV Park offers one of the few options directly within the city limits, providing a unique urban RV experience. This article aims to offer a clear, engaging, and factual overview of Candlestick RV Park, exploring its strategic location, the services it provides, its defining features, and its suitability for various types of local users and visitors to the vibrant California region.

Candlestick RV Park has a dynamic history, intrinsically linked to its former neighbor, Candlestick Park stadium. Over the years, the park has evolved, and this transformation is openly reflected in the varied feedback from past and current guests. While some might recall a time when it was an "amazing" and spacious park with full-time security, current reviews often highlight its shift towards accommodating a larger number of long-term residents. This mirrors a broader trend in urban RV parks across California, where they often serve as crucial, albeit unconventional, housing solutions in areas with high costs of living. It's important for prospective visitors to approach Candlestick RV Park with a realistic understanding of its current environment, as opposed to outdated perceptions. Recent reviews describe a park that, while providing essential services, faces challenges with tight spaces, parking, and general upkeep, with some areas being less aesthetically pleasing than others. Despite these observations, the park's management is generally described as friendly, though some guests have noted difficulties in reaching them by phone. The site's official website still promotes it as a "luxury, five-star rated RV park," which might create a discrepancy with some recent guest experiences. It is always recommended for interested parties to conduct their own due diligence to ensure the park meets their specific expectations.

Candlestick RV Park is strategically located at 650 Gilman Ave, San Francisco, CA 94124, USA. This address places it within the Bayview-Hunters Point district, an area of San Francisco that is undergoing significant redevelopment and is known for its blend of industrial and emerging residential zones. The park's most compelling feature is its direct proximity to the heart of San Francisco and various major Bay Area attractions.

The accessibility of Candlestick RV Park is a major advantage for its visitors. It's situated just a short drive from downtown San Francisco, approximately 4 miles from iconic landmarks like Oracle Park (home of the San Francisco Giants) and roughly 3 miles from San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Major highways, including U.S. Route 101, are easily accessible, providing convenient routes for those traveling by RV from other parts of California or beyond. For exploring the city without a personal vehicle, the park's urban location means potential access to Muni bus lines, which can connect to BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) stations, offering comprehensive regional transit options. This connectivity ensures that despite the immediate surroundings not being a typical picturesque campground, residents and visitors have unparalleled and convenient access to San Francisco's world-renowned cultural institutions, diverse dining scene, vibrant shopping districts, and countless tourist attractions. The ongoing redevelopment of the Candlestick Point area, including plans for new housing and commercial spaces, suggests a future evolution of the neighborhood around the park.

Candlestick RV Park offers a highly practical solution for locals in California, particularly those with RVs, who are looking to stay in or near San Francisco. Its primary suitability stems from its truly unique location within the city itself, a rare find for an RV park in such a high-demand urban area. For Californians planning a visit to the city's iconic landmarks, attending events, or even seeking a longer-term, more affordable (relative to San Francisco's overall housing costs) living solution in their RV, Candlestick RV Park provides a direct and accessible base.

However, it is crucial for prospective guests to align their expectations with the park's current reality, as indicated by recent customer reviews. These reviews highlight a significant transformation from its past. Concerns about tight spaces, a prevalence of long-term residents, and a less polished aesthetic (with descriptions of some areas being cluttered or "deplorable") are openly shared. Issues with management responsiveness for reservations and the high cost (which some deem "offensive" for the experience) are also prominent. While the cleanliness of the women's bathroom was praised in one review, challenges with other facilities like multiple non-functional showers were also noted.

Therefore, for locals, Candlestick RV Park is best suited for those who prioritize its unmatched San Francisco location and functional full hookups over a traditional, spacious, or picturesque camping experience. It serves as a pragmatic "landing site" for urban exploration or as a vital housing option for those navigating the Bay Area's housing market. By being fully informed of its current characteristics and acknowledging the trade-offs, Californians can make an educated decision about whether Candlestick RV Park is the right fit for their RVing needs in this dynamic region.
