Snow White Cottages Introduce
Nestled within the vibrant fabric of Los Angeles, specifically at 2906 Griffith Park Blvd, California locals can discover a truly unique and enchanting residential complex known as the Snow White Cottages. These aren't just ordinary homes; they are a captivating piece of Hollywood history and architectural whimsy, transporting visitors and residents alike into a living fairytale. Built in 1931 by Ben Sherwood, this complex comprises eight distinctive storybook-style cottages, each exuding a charm that evokes the magical world of classic animation.
The allure of the Snow White Cottages lies not only in their charming aesthetics but also in their legendary connection to the Walt Disney Studios. Located just around the corner from where Walt Disney's original animation studio once stood (at 2719 Hyperion Avenue, now a Gelson's Market), these cottages were historically home to several Disney animators, including Claude Coats, who later became a Disney Legend and worked on the "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" film. The popular rumor, widely believed by many, is that the unique architecture of these very cottages served as a direct inspiration for the design of the Seven Dwarfs' woodland home in the iconic 1937 animated masterpiece. Their steeply pitched roofs, timber beams, intentionally weathered details, and quaint designs strongly resonate with the whimsical imagery seen in the film, making this a truly special spot for Disney enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
These cottages represent a delightful example of "Storybook Architecture," a fanciful design movement that emerged in the 1920s and 1930s in Los Angeles, often influenced by European cottages and folktales. The Snow White Cottages stand as a testament to this imaginative architectural style, blending whimsy with craftsmanship and offering a distinctive living experience in one of LA's most dynamic neighborhoods.
The Snow White Cottages are situated at 2906 Griffith Park Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027, USA. This prime location places them in the highly desirable Los Feliz neighborhood, known for its eclectic mix of historic charm, artistic community, and convenient access to some of Los Angeles's most iconic destinations.
For California locals, especially those in the greater Los Angeles area, accessing the Snow White Cottages is relatively straightforward. The address is conveniently located with easy access to major roadways, including the I-5 Freeway, which allows for smooth travel from various parts of the city and surrounding regions. While the neighborhood boasts a "Very Walkable" score of 86, meaning many errands can be accomplished on foot, having a car is generally recommended for exploring the wider Los Angeles area due to its expansive nature. However, the immediate vicinity offers a wealth of attractions within walking or a short driving distance.
Public transportation options are also available nearby. The Vermont/Sunset Station is approximately 2.0 miles away, providing access to the Metro B Line (Red) which connects to Hollywood, Downtown LA, and Universal City. Other nearby Metro stations like Vermont/Santa Monica and Hollywood/Western also offer transit possibilities, though residents would likely rely on a combination of walking, ride-shares, or personal vehicles for daily commuting.
Beyond the historical significance of the cottages themselves, their location in Los Feliz provides immediate access to a vibrant community. Hyperion Avenue, just a short stroll away, is dotted with charming shops, delectable restaurants, and delightful bars, offering ample opportunities for dining and entertainment. The sparkling Silver Lake Reservoir, perfect for leisurely walks or serene picnics, is also nearby. Most notably, the cottages are right on the doorstep of Griffith Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America, offering hiking trails, the Griffith Observatory, the Los Angeles Zoo, and a myriad of outdoor recreational activities. This blend of historical charm, urban convenience, and natural beauty makes the location of the Snow White Cottages highly appealing to California residents seeking a unique living experience.
The Snow White Cottages operate primarily as residential rental properties, rather than a hotel or a publicly accessible historical site. As such, the "services offered" are those typically associated with long-term apartment or cottage rentals in Los Angeles, managed by a property management company. While the exact services can vary slightly between individual units or when a specific cottage becomes available, common amenities and services include:
Individual Cottage Rentals: Each of the eight cottages is typically rented as a standalone, private residence, offering no shared walls and a sense of privacy.
Fully Equipped Kitchen: Rental units typically come with a functional kitchen, including essential appliances such as a refrigerator, stove/oven, and potentially a microwave, allowing residents to prepare their own meals.
In-Unit Washer/Dryer: A significant convenience, many of these cottages feature an in-unit washer and dryer, eliminating the need for communal laundry facilities.
Private Garages/Parking: Residents often benefit from private garage access or designated reserved covered parking, a valuable amenity in Los Angeles.
Pet-Friendly Policy: Based on available listings, the Snow White Cottages are generally pet-friendly, often allowing both dogs and cats with specific weight limits, making them suitable for pet owners.
Original Hardwood Floors & Vintage Allure: While not a "service," the preservation of original architectural details like hardwood floors and fireplaces contributes to the unique living experience, providing a charming and historic ambiance.
Landscaped Courtyard: The complex often features a beautifully landscaped common courtyard area, offering a pleasant outdoor space for residents.
Maintenance Services: As with most rental properties, residents can expect standard maintenance services for the property and common areas, managed by the property management. Specifics would be outlined in the lease agreement.
It's important to note that these are private residences and not a tourist attraction offering tours or public access. Any "services" are for registered tenants of the cottages.
The Snow White Cottages are celebrated for their distinctive features and historical highlights, making them a truly unique offering in the Los Angeles rental market.
Iconic Storybook Architecture: The most prominent feature is their enchanting Storybook architectural style. Built in 1931, these eight individual cottages showcase whimsical elements such as steeply pitched roofs, timber beams, quaint window boxes, intentionally weathered chimneys, and asymmetrical designs. They are an excellent example of this playful architectural movement prevalent in 1920s and 30s Los Angeles.
Historical Disney Connection: A major highlight is the well-known rumor that these cottages inspired the design of the Seven Dwarfs' cottage in Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Furthermore, several Disney animators, including Claude Coats who worked on the film, resided here when Walt Disney's original animation studio was just around the corner on Hyperion Avenue. This direct link to Disney's early days adds immense cultural and historical significance.
Private and Single-Family Feel: Despite being part of a complex, each cottage is a standalone unit with no shared walls. This provides residents with a sense of privacy akin to a single-family home, a rare find in a bustling urban environment like Los Angeles.
Vintage Charm with Modern Conveniences: The cottages retain much of their original vintage allure, featuring elements like original hardwood floors and fireplaces. However, they also include modern conveniences such as in-unit washers/dryers, and updated kitchens, blending historical charm with contemporary living needs.
Desirable Los Feliz Location: Situated on Griffith Park Blvd, the cottages offer direct access to Griffith Park and are within walking distance to the vibrant shops, restaurants, and bars of Hyperion Avenue and the Silver Lake Reservoir. This highly sought-after neighborhood combines urban convenience with a charming, artistic atmosphere.
Pet-Friendly Environment: The cottages welcome pets, making them an attractive option for renters with furry companions, a significant highlight for pet owners looking for accommodation in the area.
Ample Parking: Most units come with dedicated private garage or reserved covered parking, which is a significant advantage in a dense urban area like Los Angeles.
These features collectively make the Snow White Cottages a unique, historically rich, and highly desirable living option for those seeking a distinctive home in Los Angeles.
As the Snow White Cottages are residential rental properties, promotions or special offers are typically managed by the property management company (e.g., PAC Properties, as indicated in some listings) and are usually tied to market conditions or specific leasing incentives rather than ongoing public promotions. It is important to note that these are not tourist attractions offering promotional tours or events, but rather homes available for rent.
Any available "promotions" for renting one of these unique cottages would generally appear on rental listing websites when a unit becomes vacant. These might include:
Move-in Specials: Such as "Get $500 Off First Month's Rent!" or a reduced security deposit (e.g., "$0 Deposit O.A.C." - On Approved Credit), as sometimes seen in rental advertisements.
Seasonal or Limited-Time Offers: Depending on the rental market in Los Feliz, property managers might offer incentives during slower rental periods to attract tenants. These are usually short-lived and specific to a particular unit's availability.
Broker Incentives: While less common for direct inquiries, a real estate agent specializing in rentals might be aware of specific incentives from the management company if they are actively trying to fill a vacancy.
To inquire about any current availability or specific offers, prospective renters should directly contact the property management using the provided contact information or check current rental listings on popular real estate platforms like Apartments.com, Rentable, or Zillow. These platforms will provide the most up-to-date information on vacant units, pricing, and any active promotions. Given the unique and desirable nature of these cottages, vacancies may be infrequent, and competition for them can be high.

For example, some listings point to "PAC Properties."

Snow White Cottages Reviews
Interesting little village homes that housed a Disney Imagineer at one time when Disney Studios used to be located at the Gelson Store location. Rumor states these houses inspired the houses in the Disney Snow White cartoon. I tend to agree.Jesus Christ Loves You!!!
Apr 19, 2025 · Paul MontalvoEight storybook-style cottages built in 1931 housed and inspired Disney employees during the making of the movie Snow White.
Nov 06, 2024 · Craig BakerI haven't actually got out of the vehicle to tour cause I know people live there. They are quaint cottages. If you do stop one should respect the people living there. These are historic landmarks & it isn't against the law to film or take pics. Some people do appreciate history whether Snow White is fact or fiction most every girl does wait for her prince charming to show up.
Mar 02, 2021 · Lala LaPointHonestly, I didn't know if the Snow White Cottages were available for public view or if I was trespassing. There's a gate but it wasn't locked, it was only closed. I let myself in and started taking pictures only to notice that people actually LIVE in the Snow White Cottages.I tried to be respectful and as quiet as possible to not disturb anyone (and to not get LAPD called on me in case I was trespassing). I took my pictures, let myself out, and closed the gate- that was it!The Snow White Cottages is a really small area so you can see them, take pictures, and leave in under 5 minutes. Again, I'm not sure if it's open to the public so cross the gate at your own risk.*Don't say that you read my review and I recommended that you go there. People live there so treat the place as you would ANY place of respect. If the residents call the cops- that's on you! Don't call me to bail you out because I'm going to pretend that I don't have any money.
Feb 20, 2018 · Sy GuzmanThese little cottages are located in the Los Feliz Silver Lake border. You may recognize these from the film Mulholland Drive. The cottages are also near the highschool so if you don't like teenagers near yih, this is not the place for you. Don't move here if you re looking for Brentwoodl.
