Ideal for family reunions, scout troops, or any large gathering, this campground provides the perfect blend of natural beauty and practical amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Woods Canyon Lake Group Campground is situated within the vast Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, a region renowned for its diverse landscapes and abundant recreational opportunities. At an elevation of approximately 7,500 feet, the area is significantly cooler than the desert valleys below, making it a highly sought-after destination during the warm summer months. The campground itself is located just a short walk from the pristine waters of Woods Canyon Lake, which serves as a central hub for all kinds of outdoor fun. From the moment you arrive, you'll feel the stress of the city melt away, replaced by the peaceful ambiance of the forest.
While the setting is rustic and wild, the campground is thoughtfully designed to accommodate groups of up to 100 people. It features a large communal area perfect for group activities, as well as multiple individual campsites that offer a sense of privacy. The on-site camp hosts are known for their hospitality and commitment to maintaining a clean and well-kept environment, ensuring a pleasant experience for all visitors. Whether you're roasting marshmallows over a campfire, exploring the many trails, or simply relaxing with a book, Woods Canyon Lake Group Campground provides the perfect backdrop for your Arizona getaway.
The location of Woods Canyon Lake Group Campground is part of its charm. It is located near the community of Forest Lakes Estates in north-central Arizona. The campground is conveniently accessible from State Highway 260, offering a scenic drive for those coming from Payson or other parts of the state. From Payson, you take Highway 260 northeast toward Heber, turning left onto Forest Road 300 (also known as Rim Road). This well-maintained road system makes it easy to access the campground with a variety of vehicles, including cars and RVs, although there are no electric hookups. The campground also features a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, making it more inclusive for all visitors.
Accessibility to the lake and surrounding trails is a key benefit of staying here. August 06 · Jesus SotoWe stayed a week at this awesome campground! No hook-ups though. We knew that and were prepared for it. The campground is exceptionally clean. The park hosts, Bob & Charlotte are super sweet & extremely helpful. We even had to borrow a cup of flour from Charlotte. She saved my sausage gravy!! There is a store close by. The views are priceless! Plenty of walking/biking trails. I would recommend this place 1000%. We will definitely be back.
May 25 · Lori GoodwinHuge group area! They weren't kidding when they said this site can accommodate 100 people. 1 set of bathrooms. Lots of picnic tables and a couple of grills in the communal area. There's 1 large fire ring next to the picnic area but each individual campsite has a fire ring as well. Super clean and private. The camphost (Bob and Charlotte) are awesome. They welcomed us and explained the rules and gave us some ideas for camping. We had a lot of kids in our group and they brought down some chalk for the kids to draw on the cement. Everyone had a great time. Well worth the money and we'll be back.
