This must be one of those hidden treasures that locals know about. The campground is a BLM or NF camp, but there are multiple sites to choose from. Unfortunately, it filled up after we were there, so we only stayed a couple nights.I walked to the little community lining the lake. It was like looking out onto something you'd see in Switzerland, it was so pretty! And so few people on the lake for being June. - Marjorie Geiser

While the provided address of "45°01'27.0"N 113°57'54., 221 W Lake St, McCall, ID 83638, USA" suggests a specific point, it's more indicative of the general area and the lake itself. The campground is nestled in the Payette National Forest, generally accessible via Forest Service roads that lead to Williams Lake. From McCall, the journey typically involves heading south on Highway 55, then turning east onto a well-marked Forest Service road that guides you towards the lake. This balance makes it an ideal destination for Idahoans looking for a genuine wilderness experience without venturing too far off the grid.

Williams Lake Campground provides a foundational set of services typical of a primitive or semi-developed Forest Service/BLM campground. It's designed for campers who are largely self-sufficient and comfortable with essential amenities.

  • Multiple Campsites: The campground offers various sites for campers to choose from. While not always explicitly numbered, there are numerous suitable spots for both tent camping and smaller RVs/trailers.

  • Picnic Tables: Each campsite is generally equipped with a picnic table, providing a convenient surface for preparing and enjoying meals outdoors.

  • Fire Rings/Grills: Fire rings or designated grill areas are typically available at each site, allowing for campfires. Visitors should always adhere to current fire restrictions and safety guidelines.

  • Pit Toilets: Basic pit toilets (vault toilets) are usually available within the campground. While specific cleanliness can vary, these facilities are provided for convenience.

  • No Potable Water: It is crucial to note that, as a primitive campground, there is likely no potable (drinkable) water available on site. Campers must bring all their own water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene purposes.

  • No Hookups: Williams Lake Campground is a dry camping location, meaning there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups at individual campsites.

  • "Pack It In, Pack It Out": Generally, Forest Service and BLM primitive sites operate on a "pack it in, pack it out" principle. This means campers are responsible for taking all their trash and waste with them when they leave, helping to preserve the natural beauty of the area.

  • Affordable Fees (if applicable): While some primitive sites are free, others may have a very modest nightly fee. It's best to check with the local Forest Service office for current fee information.
