Williams Fork Reservoir East Campground

Parshall, CO 80468, USA

4.0
We’ve loved coming to this no-frills campground for the past 10 years, at least. We were surprised at the fee this year. The campground host said it would be $25/ night. It ended up being $30. This is for a place with pit toilets, a dump station, and trash bins. No other amenities. I.E. No water.Unlike other visits, when it was free, there was trash everywhere, including bottle caps and broken glass at our campsite. And the dump station was Full/Closed.Good thing we come for the views! - Gail P. Eddy

Location and Accessibility

Williams Fork Reservoir East Campground is located in Parshall, CO 80468, USA. This places it in Grand County, a region renowned for its stunning mountain vistas, expansive forests, and numerous lakes and rivers. The campground is situated on the eastern side of the Williams Fork Reservoir, offering direct access to the water and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Access to the campground is typically via gravel and dirt roads. While some visitors have described these roads as "smooth" and "well-graded" and "passable by any vehicle" (including 30ft RVs and skoolies), it's important for campers to be aware that they are unpaved. The road around the reservoir itself can be one-lane in some sections, requiring careful navigation if encountering oncoming vehicles. Despite these considerations, the general consensus is that the campground is easily accessible for most vehicles, including RVs and trailers, making it a viable option for a wide range of campers.

The reservoir itself is managed by Denver Water, and specific regulations apply to its use, including requirements for boat inspections for motorized vessels. The campground's elevation is approximately 7,820 feet (about 2 hours 23 minutes west of Boulder), which means it offers cooler temperatures in summer and can be quite chilly at night, even in warmer months. While the immediate area around the campsites may have "little to no shade" due to past tree removal, this often translates into unobstructed views of the reservoir, which is a major draw.

For Colorado residents, the drive to Williams Fork Reservoir offers increasingly scenic views as one leaves the more populated Front Range and ventures into the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The sense of remoteness, while convenient to access, is a key part of the campground's appeal. This location provides a peaceful and secluded setting that is still within a reasonable driving distance for a weekend trip from many parts of the state, allowing locals to enjoy a true escape into nature without an overly arduous journey.

  • Camp Host: A camp host (e.g., Kirk) is often on-site, described as "very nice and helpful," providing assistance and overseeing the campground.
