Sep 18, 2024 · David AkinsWe had such a great time over thanksgiving this year at Whittaker Campground. Mr Gum is the nicest sweetest man and took such great care of us. He won customers for life with us! The campground is in a great spot and it’s all season, even water connections! They still have bathrooms and a shower as well. They even have cute cabins you can rent with groups of people for a reasonable price. We will be back a lot! Thanks for a great experience Mr Gum :)
Dec 11, 2022 · Denise MillerWe camped here over the Christmas holiday because it’s close to Snowshoe. We had full hook ups, and the owner has done a clever job of insulating the water system so that he can keep it on all year round. We have a 32 foot bumper pull camper, and it was no problem getting into either the campground itself or our campsite. Getting out was a little more difficult because it rained so much that the area where our campsite was in got a little muddy. If it were the summertime, it would be no problem, but in the winter the ground underneath was frozen, so the water soaked into the surface layer and made it harder to get out. but Mr. Gum and his son came right out to help us get out. He also mentioned that they are planning to have a load of gravel brought in to the spot we were in, so it shouldn’t be a problem for future campersNot having any cell phone service or data was a huge plus for us because it gave our kids a chance to get off their screens and spend time with us playing games and enjoying each other’s company. The first night we stayed, we had clear skies and I have never seen so many stars. This is not a fancy RV park, but it is quiet and safe, and we found the bathroom facility to be clean and well-maintained.To make a reservation, there is no website, but Mr. Gum always answered the phone when I called, and we were able to make a reservation with no hassle. We would definitely stay here again, and will probably make a trip back here in the fall. The leaves in this area would be unbelievably beautiful.
Jan 05, 2022 · David Brodeur-JohnsonPeaceful camp site with water and electric hookups. I think there's also sewer hookup but we didn't need it so I'm not sure on that. It's within 20 mins of snowshoe, so it makes for a great spot for our mountain bike trips
Jul 12, 2024 · Brandon WilsonHad a great time! When you get to the campground, Mr. Gum drives a blue truck and is usually driving around the camp but if not, go to the yellow house on the hill (on the right as soon as you see the Whittaker sign) and ask for Mr. Gum. You'll probably be greeted by his wife who will tell you which cabin to go to and that he will meet you there to show you around and give you the keys. Mr. Gum is a great guy and gives a military discount if you mention being in the service. The cabin we stayed in was the largest and was great. It was warm, had a stove, microwave, sink, fridge, dining table, 2 couches, and 2 queen beds (one was a low head space bunk) and a bathroom with toilet, shower, and sink. We paid $150 a night cash after discount. The other cabins are smaller and cheaper but not as many amenities. There is NO INTERNET anywhere within about a 25 minute drive or at the campground so plan ahead.Mr. Gum is super OLD SCHOOL! Lol he uses a paper ledger and is very forgetful but a great guy so call a couple times and make sure he still remembers you're coming and who you are and which cabin you want and times and dates you'll be checking in.You have to call for reservations and we had no issue whatsoever getting ahold of him. He always answered or called back within maybe an hr or so.15 min drive to Snowshoe from parking lot to parking lot. DOG FRIENDLY 😁🐕 too!! We brought our pit with us and he loved it. It's very quiet and relaxing there!! Closest gas station and grocery store is about 25-30 minutes out so prepare for that also.He has cabins, tent camping, and spaces for RV hookups. We will definitely be back!
