Whitetail RV Park is a well-maintained and highly regarded recreational vehicle park managed by Fort Walker's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program. It is designed to cater exclusively to authorized military personnel and their families, providing a secure and supportive environment for short-term stays or longer recreational periods. The park has undergone renovations and offers 30 full hookup sites, including 8 pull-through and 22 back-in sites, each equipped with asphalt pads and picnic tables. Its focus is on providing essential amenities and a peaceful atmosphere for its patrons.
Campers frequently commend Whitetail RV Park for its exceptionally quiet environment, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and rest while traveling or for extended stays. The facilities, including restrooms and showers, are consistently noted for being "clean," though some recent reviews have mentioned a need for grass mowing around sites, indicating occasional maintenance variances. The park's commitment to maintaining a neat and organized environment is evident through its clear rules regarding site appearance. Despite being on a military installation, the park offers a tranquil setting with "lots of places to walk the dog" and access to a family-friendly pond with nature hiking trails and a boat ramp within walking distance. While WiFi access is limited to the RV Service Center, the overall experience provides a comfortable and convenient base for authorized users. Its reputation as a "great stop right off of 301" for travelers underscores its convenience and appeal.
Whitetail RV Park is strategically located at 18616 Campbell Rd, Bowling Green, VA 22580, USA. This address places it within Fort Walker (formerly Fort A.P. Hill), a U.S. Army installation in Caroline County, Virginia. The park's position "right off of 301" highlights its excellent accessibility for those traveling along U.S. Route 301, a major north-south highway that runs through Bowling Green.
Accessibility to Whitetail RV Park, as with all facilities on a military installation, is restricted to authorized personnel. This typically includes active-duty military, National Guard, Reservists, retired military members, veterans with service-connected disabilities (including Purple Heart recipients and former POWs), and in some cases, DoD civilians and contractors. To gain entry to Fort Walker, visitors without a DoD ID card must process through the Visitor Control Center, present valid photo ID, vehicle registration, and proof of current vehicle insurance, and undergo a background check. It is crucial to verify the most current gate access policies and visitor requirements with Fort Walker’s Visitor Control Center before your arrival, as procedures can change.
Once on post, the park is easily identifiable. While the immediate surroundings are part of the military installation and rural Caroline County, the convenience of its location near Route 301 means that essential services are not far. Reviewers mention that a "small strip with a Food Lion and things" is about "5-6 mins away" in nearby Bowling Green for groceries and basic supplies. For more extensive amenities or larger towns, travel of approximately 45 minutes may be required. This balance of being easily accessible for travelers while providing a secure and quiet environment within the installation makes Whitetail RV Park a highly convenient and appealing stop for authorized patrons traversing Virginia.

Whitetail RV Park Reviews
Very nice. Exceptionally quiet. Nice and clean. But, the grass certainly needs mowed. It's about ten inches tall. Also surprised that the shower house is closed overnight until 9 AM
Oct 04, 2024 · Ed JuersivichStayed one night while traveling, great stop right off of 301. Sites are a good size with pavement. Lots of places to walk the dog. We hope to return for a few days in the future. Only suggestion is they need to mow the grass on the sites, very overgrown during our stay.
Apr 23, 2025 · Mary Ellen SeveranceExcellent for an overnight stay or maybe a couple of days rest during a long trip. Typical military campground with little amenities but the post has options elsewhere. They hadn't mowed the grass in many weeks.
Apr 26, 2025 · Glenn SeveranceNice community camp building.Community fire pit.No fires allowed at sites.Clean showers, bathrooms, and laundry machines.Garbage pickup is frequent.Cardboard recycling only.Camp sites are nicely sized.Grass maintenance sometimes spaced out.RV spots are nicely paved.Lots of ticks on trails. Don't forget bug repellent or pet treatment. No playground.Large fields good for dog walks when mowed and no exercises going on.Don't complain about noise on military base unless it's your neighbors being disrespectful.
Sep 26, 2023 · John HoaglandVery nice, quiet campground for overnight stay in RV. Never had to level because sites were perfect! Cement slabs, nice picnic tables, laundry room/rec center, community fire pit. Price was great for everything we needed. Only negative aspect was I wish the grassy areas weren't so overgrown. Had to walk the pups in the road & it impeded expiring the common areas.
