Location and Accessibility

White Pass Lake Campground is situated at NF-498, Naches, WA 98937, USA. More precisely, it is located on the northeastern shores of Leech Lake, nestled within the beautiful Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. This places it close to the summit of White Pass, a significant mountain pass in the Cascade Range that serves as a popular recreational hub year-round.

Access to the campground is typically from U.S. Highway 12, turning onto Forest Road 498 (also known as Leech Lake Road), about a quarter-mile east of the White Pass summit. While the main highways are well-maintained, forest roads can sometimes be subject to varying conditions. Reviews indicate that the campground is located within earshot of "road noise" from the highway, which is a consideration for those seeking absolute silence.

The elevation of White Pass Lake Campground is approximately 4,423 feet (around 1,348 meters). This high altitude means the campground experiences distinct seasons, with snow cover for a significant portion of the year. It is generally open seasonally, typically from June to September when the weather is most pleasant for camping. The views from the campground are consistently described as "amazing," offering panoramic vistas of the lake and surrounding forested terrain. While there might be "diesel engine/generator" noise from a nearby resort at times, its prime location near the lake and within a dense forest makes it a popular and accessible mountain escape for many Washington residents.

Services Offered

  • Campsites: White Pass Lake Campground offers 7 individual campsites, suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs up to 20 feet in length. Each campsite typically includes a picnic table and a fire ring with a grate, providing basic necessities for outdoor living.

  • Vault Toilets: Basic restroom facilities are available in the form of vault toilets. While rustic, these are essential for convenience at a forest service campground.

  • Drinking Water: Potable drinking water is available within the campground, often via a handpump or spigot. It's important to note that while water is accessible, campers should not attach RV hoses directly to these systems, as they are intended for filling jugs and buckets.

  • No Electrical Hookups: The campsites at White Pass Lake Campground are standard nonelectric sites, meaning there are no electrical hookups available. Campers should plan accordingly for their power needs.

  • No Individual Water/Sewer Hookups: Individual campsites do not have direct water or sewer hookups. Campers will need to fill water tanks and utilize dump stations elsewhere (e.g., at nearby larger facilities if available).

  • Boat Ramp: A valuable amenity for water enthusiasts, there is a boat ramp available at Leech Lake, allowing for convenient launching of non-motorized watercraft.

  • Proximity to Camp Store: A significant convenience highlighted by a reviewer is a "stocked camp store 1/4 mi away." This nearby store offers a place to purchase supplies, including water to fill tanks, which is a helpful resource given the campground's rustic nature.

Its suitability for locals is found in its unique blend of stunning natural beauty, direct access to iconic trails, and a more rustic camping environment.

The focus on non-motorized boating, coupled with the "fly fishing only" policy for the lake, appeals to those who appreciate a quieter, more focused approach to water recreation, a common preference among our local outdoor community.

While some reviews mention "road noise" and "diesel engine/generator" sounds, and acknowledge that "some of the sites are super close together with not much privacy," these are often acceptable trade-offs for the unparalleled access to recreational opportunities and the stunning high-alpine environment. The presence of a "stocked camp store 1/4 mi away" providing essentials like water, adds a welcome touch of convenience to an otherwise primitive setting. Moreover, the proximity to the White Pass Ski Area means this campground can serve as a base for winter activities, showcasing its year-round appeal for those who embrace Washington's diverse seasons.
