Stopped by for a day pass on opening weekend, Memorial Day, and fell absolutely in love with the place! We had the pleasure of meeting the new campground host, Diana, and her assistant/mascot Marvin(see picture for his wonderful face) and could not be happier. They were some of the most welcoming camp hosts we've had the pleasure of meeting and can't wait to see them again. Absolutely welcoming, so sweet, and genuinely happy to be there. I wish them nothing but the best and hope they can continue to host for years to come. The campground itself was absolutely stunning, breathtaking and clean as could be. We will be making this place a regular stop due to its peaceful nature, wonderful vibes and views. There were deer, fish, and birds a plenty. This is honestly the dream campground. Great spots, picnic tables and a lovely little beach to enjoy on warm days. Don't hesitate and come enjoy this place for yourself, you won't regret it, I guarantee that! - Megan Brookins

Whether you're a seasoned outdoor enthusiast or a family embarking on your first camping adventure, West Sullivan Campground provides an idyllic setting to unwind and reconnect with the serene wilderness of northeast Washington.

West Sullivan Campground is renowned for its pristine conditions and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors consistently praise its cleanliness and the breathtaking views that surround every corner. The campground is beautifully maintained, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay. One of its most significant assets is its wonderfully supportive camp host team, like Diana and her assistant Marvin, who go above and beyond to make guests feel incredibly welcome and genuinely happy to be there. This personal touch, coupled with the natural splendor, truly sets West Sullivan Campground apart as a destination where you immediately feel at home.

The campsites themselves are a highlight, offering a rare combination of ample space and natural privacy. Unlike some campgrounds where sites feel cramped, West Sullivan boasts large, well-separated sites, shaded by an abundance of trees and natural undergrowth. This provides a truly authentic camping experience, allowing campers to feel immersed in nature while still having plenty of room for their setup. Whether you're pitching multiple tents or maneuvering a trailer, the spaciousness is a definite advantage. The absence of electric hookups further enhances this authentic, back-to-nature feel, though water is conveniently nearby, ensuring basic needs are met.

The natural environment surrounding West Sullivan Campground is nothing short of spectacular. Sullivan Lake itself is described as clean and clear, offering fantastic opportunities for swimming, especially at the lovely little beach area, perfect for warm days. The lake is also a renowned spot for fishing, with burbot (ling cod) and Kokanee salmon being common catches, particularly when fishing from a boat. Beyond the water, the rich ecosystem supports an abundance of wildlife, with deer, fish, and various bird species frequently observed, enhancing the sense of being truly in nature. The peaceful nature and wonderful vibes of the campground contribute to an overall sense of calm and rejuvenation, making it an ideal retreat from the stresses of daily life.

While one review mentioned a slightly "wonky" layout for backing in a trailer at a specific site, the overall consensus points to the ease of use and appeal of the camping spaces. The emphasis here is on the natural experience, creating an environment where the stunning views, clean surroundings, and friendly faces combine to form what many consider to be a dream campground. This article will further detail why West Sullivan Campground is not just a place to stay, but a destination to fall in love with, promising an unforgettable adventure for Washington residents.

Location and Accessibility

West Sullivan Campground is ideally situated on Sullivan Lake Road, near Metaline Falls, WA 99153, USA. This location places it at the picturesque north end of Sullivan Lake, approximately five miles east of Metaline Falls, deep within the scenic Colville National Forest. For Washington residents, particularly those in Eastern Washington, it offers an accessible yet wonderfully secluded natural escape. The drive from Spokane is approximately 90-95 miles north, typically taking you along Highway 31 towards Ione, then turning onto Sullivan Lake Road (County Road 9345) for about 12-13 miles directly to the campground.

The accessibility of West Sullivan Campground is a key factor in its appeal. While it provides a true wilderness feel, it is not overly difficult to reach, making it suitable for families and individuals traveling with tents, trailers, or smaller RVs. The roads leading to and within the campground are generally well-maintained, contributing to a smooth arrival process. The campground is directly across from the Sullivan Lake Ranger Station, which can be a helpful landmark for navigation and provides a sense of security and resource availability.

Being perched on the north shore of Sullivan Lake is undoubtedly the campground's most defining geographical feature. This prime lakeside position means that many campsites offer views of the clear, deep mountain lake and the dramatic Hall Mountain rising abruptly from its eastern shore. Direct access to the lake facilitates swimming, fishing, boating (with boat launches available at East Sullivan and Noisy Creek Campgrounds on the lake), canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The campground also features a lovely little beach that is perfect for enjoying on warm days and for children to splash around in.

The surrounding Colville National Forest, with its mixed stand of conifer trees and dense understory, provides ample privacy between campsites and offers plenty of shade during warm summer days. This natural setting creates a serene and immersive experience, where wildlife such as deer, various birds, and even the occasional cougar or bear can be observed (hence the importance of proper food storage). While cellular service may be limited or non-existent in this natural retreat, this often enhances the opportunity to truly disconnect and appreciate the surroundings. The proximity to Metaline Falls, a quaint town with historic buildings, also offers a convenient stop for essentials or a glimpse into local history at the Mill Pond Historic Site.
