Water Mountain is situated at 219 Mildred Mile Ln, Belle, MO 65013, USA. This address places it in a genuinely remote and private setting, appealing to campers who prioritize solitude over bustling crowds. Its rural location means that while it offers an escape, visitors should be aware that the nearest town with services is approximately six miles away. Therefore, coming well-prepared with all necessary supplies is highly recommended to ensure a comfortable stay.
Accessibility to Water Mountain is primarily by vehicle, and GPS systems should guide you directly to the property. However, it's important to note that once you're on the property, access to certain areas, particularly the Gasconade River, can be challenging. Reviews indicate that the trail leading to the water access is a very long walk—at least 20 minutes—and is described as steep, rocky, and deeply rutted. This trail is impassable for regular vehicles, necessitating a 4-wheel drive vehicle or ATV for anyone wishing to transport coolers, small children, or those with physical limitations to the river. This specific detail about the river access is crucial for visitors planning water-based activities, as it requires considerable effort and appropriate transportation to reach the riverfront. For those who enjoy a challenging hike and are well-equipped, the journey can be part of the adventure, offering a truly remote river experience.
Services Offered:
Camping Sites:
Water Mountain primarily offers primitive or rustic camping experiences, with ample open space for pitching tents. While specific site designations for RVs are not explicitly detailed in general information, the emphasis is on a more natural and less developed camping environment. Visitors should expect a field-like setting, potentially requiring some leveling for RVs or trailers.
Porta-Potties:
The campground provides porta-potties for restroom facilities. User reviews indicate that these are generally kept clean and stocked with toilet paper, which is a significant plus for a rustic camping setup. It’s advisable to bring personal hand sanitizer for convenience.
Fire Rings:
Individual fire rings are available at campsites, allowing guests to build campfires for warmth, cooking, and marshmallow roasting. Firewood is often accessible on the property; if it's on the ground and dead, campers are typically allowed to burn it.
Features / Highlights:
Genuinely Friendly Owners:
One of the most consistently praised aspects of Water Mountain is the exceptional friendliness and accommodating nature of the property owners. Their hospitality significantly enhances the camping experience, making guests feel welcome and valued.
Very Private and Remote Atmosphere:
If solitude is what you seek, Water Mountain delivers. The campground offers a high degree of privacy, making it an ideal spot to escape the noise and distractions of everyday life. This remote setting is perfect for truly disconnecting and enjoying the peace of nature.
Rustic Camping Experience:
This campground is best suited for those who embrace a more rustic camping style. It’s an opportunity to return to basics, without the extensive amenities found at more developed parks. This raw, natural environment allows for a deep connection with the outdoors.
Challenging River Access:
While the Gasconade River is a significant draw, accessing it is an adventure in itself. The very long, steep, rocky, and deeply rutted trail requires robust transportation (4-wheel drive or ATV) or a considerable hike (at least 20 minutes) to reach. This makes the river access a challenging but rewarding feature for adventurous individuals or groups with appropriate vehicles.
Hiking Opportunities:
The remote nature of the property suggests ample opportunities for hiking and exploring the natural surroundings. While specific marked trails might be limited, the expansive land allows for self-guided exploration and a chance to experience the Missouri wilderness firsthand.
Cool Weather Suitability:
Given the challenging river access and lack of immediate amenities like a swimming area at the campsite, Water Mountain is particularly well-suited for cool-weather camping. During milder temperatures, the focus can shift to hiking, campfires, and simply enjoying the quietude without the pressure of needing immediate water access for cooling off.
Bring Your Own Amenities:
Guests should be prepared for a truly self-sufficient experience. There are no picnic tables (only empty wooden cable spools that might serve as standing tables), no office offering snacks or drinks, and limited facilities beyond the porta-potties and fire rings. Bringing your own tables, chairs, and all supplies is essential for a comfortable stay.

Water Mountain Reviews
The people that own the property and run the campsite are genuinely nice people, very friendly. However, our camping experience was not up to my expectations. My biggest complaint is that no matter what may be implied the distance from the camping area and the water access is a very, very LONG way. The walk to the water access is at least 20 minutes and is not at all an easy walk as the trail is down a very steep, rocky and deeply rutted road thats impassable for regular vehicles. Small children or adults with any physical limitations shouldn't attempt it. Don't even think about carrying a cooler or small children to the water as you'll absolutely need a 4 wheel drive or ATV. This was a major issue because it was literally 97 degrees and swimming in the river was our main goal - which we never achieved. With that said, there were no pic-nic tables to be found, only empty wooden cable spools that might double as a standing only table. We did find a fire ring and made a small fire for roasting marshmallows. There were a few porta-potties and the one we used was clean and stocked with toilet paper so that was a plus as I had my wife and three grandkids with me. This would be a nice cool weather campsite but take your own table and chairs. There is no "office" that offers snacks or drinks or anything else so go well prepared. If you need or forgot anything the nearest town is 6 miles away, one way. Again, the owners are super nice, just go prepared as its rustic.
