Wapiti Campground Introduce
Welcome to Wapiti Campground, a stunning recreational area located on US-14 just outside of Cody, Wyoming. For those of us who call Wyoming home, or for visitors passing through on an epic road trip, finding a campground that offers both a genuine natural experience and convenient amenities is a true find. Wapiti Campground is precisely that—a beautiful and serene spot nestled between towering cliffs and the picturesque Shoshone River. It serves as a perfect base camp for exploring the rugged beauty of the region, from the dramatic landscapes of the Absaroka volcanic mud flow to the abundant wildlife that roams the area. The campground is well-regarded for its friendly atmosphere and for providing a clean and well-kept environment, which makes every stay a comfortable and memorable one.
The name "Wapiti" is a Native American term for elk, a fitting name for a place where you can often spot magnificent wildlife. The campground’s location on the Shoshone River provides a tranquil soundtrack to your outdoor adventure, and its proximity to the water offers excellent opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing. As a real customer noted, they "watched Bighorn sheep on the rocks across Shoshone River." This kind of authentic wildlife encounter is a key part of the experience here. The campground offers a mix of sites, some with electrical hookups for RVs and others for dry camping, ensuring a variety of options for different camping styles. It’s an ideal destination whether you're a seasoned RVer or a family looking to pitch a tent for the first time. The well-spaced sites provide a sense of privacy, allowing you to truly relax and feel at one with nature.
The overall atmosphere at Wapiti Campground is one of peaceful simplicity. While it provides essential amenities, it avoids the commercial feel of larger parks, focusing instead on the natural setting. This makes it an excellent choice for those who want to disconnect from the digital world—as there is often no cell service—and reconnect with their surroundings. The presence of a friendly camp host, as mentioned in a review, adds a layer of personal service and hospitality that enhances the experience. The host ensures that the facilities, like the pit toilets, are kept "the cleanest" they've ever seen, which is a great comfort to any camper. This commitment to cleanliness and a welcoming environment is what makes Wapiti Campground a truly special place in the heart of Wyoming.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1RV fresh water fill up by info sign at entrance. Pit toilet, garbage. Beautiful campground, camp host was friendly. Spaced nicely apart. Fire ring, picnic table, some sites have electric. No dump available. Dump at city of Cody free dump station on Lt Childers street, by Veterans Memorial. We watched Bighorn sheep on the rocks across Shoshone River. Not far from Cody. Had a great time there. Can’t wait to come back!!
June 30 · Lucinda JolleyLeaving Yellowstone or heading to it this is a really nice campground. The host from Nebraska has the cleanest vaults for use that I've ever seen! Half the campground is dry camping and the other half has power for an RV.
October 01 · Over Yonder LanderCamp host Jodi was nicr and was very helpful! We just traveled down from Glacier! Campground was about 25 miles from the entrance to Yellowstone, so a bit far, but they had water and vault toilets. 27 miles from Cody, WY where we could get cell service and wifi.Sites were a nice size and had some First come first served sites available.
October 03 · Brian BonnerGreat campground on The River's Edge, very peaceful, no traffic sounds. Had a real nice ride at Bill Cody Stables just down the road
July 20 · Steve KeatorNice campground between Yellowstone and Cody. The views in the area were awesome. No host was on site when we were there. The one downside was that there were tons of flies in the bathrooms. They really need to invest in some fly tape.
