Wapiti Campground Introduce

Welcome to Wapiti Campground, a stunning recreational area located on US-14 just outside of Cody, Wyoming. For those of us who call Wyoming home, or for visitors passing through on an epic road trip, finding a campground that offers both a genuine natural experience and convenient amenities is a true find. Wapiti Campground is precisely that—a beautiful and serene spot nestled between towering cliffs and the picturesque Shoshone River. It serves as a perfect base camp for exploring the rugged beauty of the region, from the dramatic landscapes of the Absaroka volcanic mud flow to the abundant wildlife that roams the area. The campground is well-regarded for its friendly atmosphere and for providing a clean and well-kept environment, which makes every stay a comfortable and memorable one.

The name "Wapiti" is a Native American term for elk, a fitting name for a place where you can often spot magnificent wildlife. The campground’s location on the Shoshone River provides a tranquil soundtrack to your outdoor adventure, and its proximity to the water offers excellent opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing. As a real customer noted, they "watched Bighorn sheep on the rocks across Shoshone River." This kind of authentic wildlife encounter is a key part of the experience here. This makes it an excellent choice for those who want to disconnect from the digital world—as there is often no cell service—and reconnect with their surroundings. The presence of a friendly camp host, as mentioned in a review, adds a layer of personal service and hospitality that enhances the experience. The host ensures that the facilities, like the pit toilets, are kept "the cleanest" they've ever seen, which is a great comfort to any camper. This commitment to cleanliness and a welcoming environment is what makes Wapiti Campground a truly special place in the heart of Wyoming.
