Walk in Water Campground Introduce
For many of us who call Florida home, the allure of the great outdoors is a constant draw. We often seek out those quieter, more serene spots where we can truly disconnect and immerse ourselves in nature, away from the bustling crowds. If you're looking for a peaceful escape for a few days, a place where the sounds of nature prevail and tranquility is abundant, then Walk in Water Campground in Lake Wales, FL, might just be your next favorite discovery. This charming, "tiny" campground, as one visitor described it, offers a unique, more rustic camping experience perfectly suited for those who prioritize peace and natural beauty over extensive amenities.
Located in the heart of Central Florida, Walk in Water Campground is characterized by its quiet atmosphere and scenic surroundings. It's the kind of place where you can truly "get away for the weekend," as one reviewer happily noted, finding solace in its "peaceful, quiet, beautiful" environment. While it might not boast all the bells and whistles of larger, more commercial campgrounds, its simplicity is precisely its strength, appealing to campers who appreciate a more minimalist approach to their outdoor adventures.
What truly sets Walk in Water Campground apart for local Floridians is its dedication to providing a tranquil base for exploring the natural landscape. It's ideal for those interested in hiking or e-biking, offering access to trails where you can discover the unique flora and fauna of the region. While it may require you to be self-sufficient in terms of water and showers, the trade-off is a remarkably serene setting and the opportunity to experience Florida's wild side in a genuine way. Its welcoming ranger and friendly atmosphere further enhance its appeal as a true local gem for outdoor enthusiasts.
Walk in Water Campground is situated at 6110 Walk in Water Rd, Lake Wales, FL 33898, USA. This address places it within Polk County, in the heart of Central Florida. Lake Wales is a community known for its natural beauty, including the expansive Lake Wales Ridge, and its connection to the Florida Heartland.
Accessibility to the campground is primarily by road. Lake Wales is generally well-connected by state roads and is within a reasonable driving distance from major highways like US-27 and SR-60. This makes it a feasible destination for campers coming from various parts of Central and South Florida, including cities like Orlando, Tampa, and Lakeland. The journey to the campground typically involves driving through Florida's characteristic rural landscapes, setting a peaceful tone for your arrival.
While the campground is "close to the road," according to one review, it benefits from "minimal traffic in the evenings," ensuring a quiet night's rest. The address on Walk in Water Road hints at its proximity to the large and ecologically significant Lake Walk-in-Water (also known as Lake Weohyakapka), though direct lake access from the campground itself is not explicitly stated as a feature. However, the presence of deep sand on trails suggests a natural, undeveloped environment that is typical of many Central Florida outdoor areas, making it suitable for specific activities like hiking or e-biking rather than regular cycling. Despite its modest size, its location offers a secluded feel while remaining accessible for a quick getaway.

Walk in Water Campground Reviews
I spent a week here in January 2022. I had the place to myself during the week & 4 campers on the weekend. The place is tiny. You can walk a lap of the campground in under 2 minutes. It's close to the road but minimal traffic in the evenings. Most sites are small but two larger ones available. The tent sites don't allow you to park in them so grab an RV site if possible. There's also a gun range a couple miles away. It would be buggy in the summer months. Nice place for hiking or e-bikes. Too much deep sand for a regular bike. Enjoy!
May 07, 2022 · gary a. usherVery nice place for a couple days. There are no showers or water, but it's peaceful, quite, beautiful, and the ranger is super nice. Perfect for a couple to get away for the weekend.
Dec 05, 2021 · Anna KellyWell marked entrance, entrance road cut back to 13' height. Very clean, 10 spaces set out with nice space between. However the loop road around the campsites is NOT cut back for large RVs. Do not arrive after dark in a 5th wheel or large Class A! You will want a walker/observer to keep from dragging limbs on the roof. Site 4 & 7 are best for bigger rigs. Porta Potties and Dumpster well maintained. Bring in firewood if you want a campfire. Rangers cruise through on an irregular schedule. Kiosk has a lot of good information. The Lake Wales Ridge is a very interesting piece of geology/ecology.
Feb 02, 2020 · Lowell StephensI enjoyed my two-night stay at the Walk in the Water campgrounds. The site is relatively primitive with the only things available being picnic benches, a shelter, fire pits, two porter potties and a dumpster. The site was clean, quiet and peaceful. The porta potties were clean and had toilet paper. Can't beat it for $13.35 per night.
Sep 18, 2021 · Greg RosenbergWe always have a great time here. It is small which makes it great for us to just let the kids explore without having too many people around.
