Verlot Campground

Mountain Loop Hwy, Granite Falls, WA 98252, USA

4.0
Nestled in along the twists and turns of the Verlot River, the Verlot Campground boasts amazing views with minimalist camping perfection. There are bathrooms easily accessible, with flush toilets, potable water spouts, and communal dumpsters. Of course being so close to the water, the mosquitos were mosquitoing 🤣 but a little citronella will do the trick! While I couldn’t see bringing my 40ft trailer here due to size restrictions (contrary to the website) it was perfect for the roof top tent set up! Small bonus (to me) this was out of cell reception 🙌🏻 so it was nice to be unplugged! - Andrea Major

Verlot Campground is situated on Mountain Loop Hwy, Granite Falls, WA 98252, USA. This strategic location places it directly along the picturesque Mountain Loop Highway, a renowned scenic byway that winds through the heart of the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Its position along this highway makes it relatively easy to access for campers coming from various parts of Washington.

For those traveling from Seattle, the journey typically involves heading north on I-5 to Everett, then taking Exit 194 onto Highway 2, proceeding north on Highway 204 toward Lake Stevens, turning north on Highway 9, and finally turning east on Highway 92 to Granite Falls. From Granite Falls, the campground is approximately 10.8 miles east on the Mountain Loop Highway. While the address lists Granite Falls, the campground is clearly indicated as "Nestled in along the twists and turns of the Verlot River," which is the South Fork Stillaguamish River.

The Mountain Loop Highway itself is generally a well-maintained road, though conditions can vary seasonally, especially during winter or after heavy rains. It's important to note that while the campground is "just off the Mountain Loop Highway," it is described as "relatively quiet," suggesting that highway noise is not overly intrusive for most sites. However, some sites closer to the road might experience more noise. Despite this, the accessibility means that campers, even those with roof-top tents or smaller trailers (max vehicle length 40ft), can reach it without significant difficulty. The ease of access from Granite Falls ensures that essential supplies are never too far away, blending a remote feel with practical convenience.

Verlot Campground, while promoting a minimalist camping experience, provides a solid foundation of well-maintained services and facilities to ensure visitor comfort. It’s designed for those who appreciate essential amenities without the frills of more developed campgrounds.

  • Campsites: The campground offers 25 single sites and 1 double site, suitable for tents or trailers. Sites are noted as "spacious and private," with "lots of shade" due to a more open tree canopy allowing ample sunlight. Each site typically includes a picnic table and a fire pit.
  • Restroom Facilities: A significant highlight is the availability of "bathrooms easily accessible, with flush toilets." Reviews consistently praise these restrooms as "clean and very well maintained," with some even noting "skylights," and the inclusion of "paper towels and hand soap."
  • Potable Water: "Potable water spouts" are available throughout the campground, providing access to cold, clean drinking water. While one review mentions issues with water quality, official Forest Service information confirms potable water is typically available.
  • Communal Dumpsters: "Communal dumpsters" are on-site for convenient trash disposal, aiding in keeping the campground clean and reducing wildlife attraction.
  • No Showers or Electrical Hook-ups: Campers should be aware that there are "no showers" and "no electric access for tent sites," which is considered "pretty normal" for this type of Forest Service campground. This encourages a more traditional camping experience.
  • No Dishwashing Facilities: Visitors are advised that there is "No place to wash your dishes so bring a little tub so you can do it at your campsite."
  • Camp Host: The presence of a camp host (or hosts) helps ensure the campground is well-managed and provides assistance to campers.

  • Riverside Location: "Nestled in along the twists and turns of the Verlot River" (South Fork Stillaguamish River), the campground offers "amazing views" and the soothing sounds of flowing water. Having a site "by the river" is highly recommended by visitors for enhanced tranquility and direct access for cooling off.
  • Blissful Lack of Cell Reception: A unique highlight for many seeking a true escape is that the campground is "out of cell reception." This allows visitors to be "unplugged," fostering a deeper connection with nature and fellow campers without digital distractions.
  • Excellent Hiking Access: Verlot Campground is perfectly situated for hikers, offering "Lots of local trails." The Mount Dickerman Trail, a popular and challenging hike, is located nearby, and the campground provides an excellent base for exploring the extensive trail system of the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.
  • Spacious and Private Sites: Campers appreciate the "spacious and private" nature of the sites, which are "mostly private with lots of shade," promoting a comfortable and secluded atmosphere. The "tree canopy is more open allowing more sunlight to hit the ground" compared to some other heavily forested areas.
  • Flush Toilets: The availability of "flush toilets" (not just vault toilets) is a significant convenience and comfort, especially in a forested campground, and they are consistently praised for being "clean and well maintained."
  • Family-Friendly Environment: The campground is noted as "a great place to camp with children," likely due to the clean facilities, river access, and open spaces within sites.
  • Scenic Beauty: Being located in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest means campers are surrounded by "glacier-covered peaks, wide mountain meadows and old-growth forests," providing a spectacular natural backdrop for their stay.
