USAF Wateree Recreation Area Reviews
Friendly staff! Plenty of space for fishing and other water activities, volleyball court was nice, the boats they have for rent are immaculate! Will definitely be back again soon!
Jun 29, 2025 · Erik TorresLove this place! Always nice staff, cabins & boats to rent! Looks like they stopped selling tackle & supplies at the office. So stock up before you come! This time I had a tent site & showers need work & are filthy! Almost stepped on broken glass in the shower! They are finally doing some other past due work around there though.
Apr 16, 2025 · Preston CauseyCalling out shaw afb why no security? It's a government property.... it was great when I came here before season. Absolutely beautiful place to camp, but some major security issues.Summer anyone can just come onto base smoke weed infront of children. Non Dod can just enter and destroy the bathrooms. Disturbing people who are actually veterans and active duty. Witnessed theft, a few Airmen went for a boat ride they came back to all there food stollen. The drug use they sit next to the beach and smoke weed. Absolutely disgusting behavior Witnessed. If you camp here please don't camp down by the beach. No check points. No one checking ids. Not even from the staff. They let it happen, watched staff say nothing to these non dod members. People coming and harassing us for money. I thought hey a military campground it will be safe and secure. I was surprised to say that is farthest from the truth. Please someone from Shaw afb secure this area. Will remove this post as soon as they secure this area. Just want to make Shaw aware of what is going on here. And to let other family's with children know what is going on.
Jun 22, 2025 · Natalie LVets, dod, disabled vetrans. Nice campground that's on the lake edge. There is plenty of boat docking and fishing from them. There is laundry, rv full hookup, and cabins with fire pits and plenty of 1980s-era bbq grills. It's got a hill with rv spots that need to use leveling to use. It's got a lower rv parking area thsts pretty level.Cons: The cell signal is terrible. Any carrier, starlink has to fight trees. The sites are deep in old growth trees, so watch your backing on the hill.Near by stuffIt is about 20 minutes to the local beaver den bar and grill with live music. The steakhouse nearby is nice, too. On the water. There's a gas station there with marine gas fuel for boats. In the other directionDollar GeneralAnd 15 minutes down the road from Dollar General is camden and its shipping district with walmart, lowes, and varioua fast food.No dog park. But lots of low traffic streets within the park that go up and down hills. Kinda fun walk. There is a beach and bathrooms and you can rent pavilians for parties at the small 50-yard wide beach. You can tent boats and kayaks and even golf carts for some reason. They bow have two campers you can rent on site.
