The grounds are well maintained. The shower although it had no place to lay your things was hot. When we got settled into our spot which was a challenge for us to back into we immediately heard the dogs. They barked all afternoon non-stop. We decided to chance another night because we were going to be out all day. The same thing once we returned they barked up to 10:30 until I fell asleep of exhaustion. The first night appeared to be shirtless drunk drove in after 10 wondering around the unattended store, I hollered if the person was ok and then went and asked something of my neighbor. The second night after ten pm a camper came in making all sorts of noise. They settled quickly but that should not be allowed, is the gate even locked? - Heidi Honea

  • On-Site Store/Check-in Station: A check-in station also serves as a place to purchase essential supplies like snacks and firewood, ensuring campers have access to basic necessities without leaving the park.
  • Firewood Availability: Firewood can be pre-ordered or purchased on-site, a valuable service for enjoying campfires.
  • Pet-Friendly Camping: Pets (dogs and cats) are permitted in the campground, provided leash guidelines are observed, allowing families to bring their beloved furry companions along for the adventure.
  • Reservation System: Unlike some purely first-come, first-serve parks, all campsites at Tygart Lake State Park Campground are reservable online, by phone, or at the campground office. While there's a minimum stay requirement for weekends, this service allows for pre-planning and ensures a spot.

As a West Virginia State Park Campground, Tygart Lake State Park generally operates under a standardized fee structure set by the state, rather than frequent commercial promotions or discount codes. However, there are still ways that locals can find value and potentially save on their camping experiences, or leverage the park's offerings as a benefit.

Potential "Promotions" or Value-Added Aspects include:

  • Consistent and Affordable Pricing: State park camping fees are typically set to be accessible to the general public, offering a cost-effective way to enjoy West Virginia's natural resources compared to many private campgrounds. Daily or nightly rates for sites are standard and transparent.
  • Seasonal Operating Period: The campground's operation from mid-April through October ensures availability during prime outdoor recreation seasons, allowing West Virginians to plan multiple trips throughout the warmer months.
  • Advance Reservation System: The ability to reserve all campsites online, by phone, or at the campground office is a significant benefit, especially during peak season. This service allows campers to secure their preferred spot well in advance, removing the uncertainty often associated with first-come, first-serve sites. While a minimum two-night stay is required for weekend reservations, this helps in planning.
  • West Virginia State Parks Deals/Packages: While not specific to the campground alone, the West Virginia State Parks system occasionally offers broader promotions for lodge and cabin stays, or special events that might indirectly benefit campers by attracting more visitors to the park area. It's always worth checking the official West Virginia State Parks website for any statewide deals that might apply or offer other reasons to visit.
  • Group Accommodations/Events: Tygart Lake State Park also offers conference space overlooking the lake and is a site for group meetings, suggesting that larger gatherings or organized events might have specific booking procedures or rates through the park office.
