Don’t like leaving the reviews, but this place was a disaster! Pictures on Airbnb were so misleading, photographer deserves 5 stars, but this place not even this one. Friend made the reservations, you can only imagine how she felt when we arrived… Dirt road to the property, junkyard looking place next to it, half paved driveway, ‘parking spot’ just muddy area next to the place where our car got stuck. No dead bolt on the door, key can only be used from the outside and someone’s RV parked right in front of the ‘house’. Taking everything into the account, we did not feel safe staying there. And we most certainly did not appreciate the owner coming right away and kicking us out, while we were still on the phone with the Airbnb trying to figure out what to do next - Helena Bojovic

Tranquillum Forest Introduce

For many Washingtonians, the allure of a quiet, forested escape is a powerful draw, promising tranquility and a deep connection with nature. However, when planning your next outdoor adventure, it is crucial to conduct thorough research to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. One location that has recently garnered attention, primarily through online reviews and booking platforms like Airbnb, is "Tranquillum Forest" in Olalla, WA. While the name itself conjures images of serene woodland, recent visitor experiences suggest a reality that diverges significantly from such expectations.

Based on direct accounts from individuals who have attempted to stay at this property, Tranquillum Forest appears to be a site that presents significant challenges and potential safety concerns. Descriptions from these visitors paint a picture of a place that is not a traditional, publicly accessible campground, nor does it consistently meet the safety and amenity standards typically expected of a rental property. It is imperative that potential visitors understand these realities to avoid disappointment and ensure their personal security.

This article aims to provide a factual and cautious overview of what has been reported by previous guests of Tranquillum Forest. It's a reminder that while the Pacific Northwest offers countless beautiful and welcoming outdoor destinations, it's essential to be fully informed about the specific nature of private properties advertised for lodging or camping.

Location and Accessibility

Tranquillum Forest is listed at 12665 Terranova Pl SE, Olalla, WA 98359, USA. Olalla is a small, rural community located on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington State, known for its natural beauty, including forests, farmlands, and proximity to the Puget Sound. While the general area offers opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and visiting local wineries, the specific access to Tranquillum Forest has been a major point of concern for visitors.

According to multiple firsthand accounts, the approach to the property involves navigating a "dirt road" that some have described as "scary looking," with observations of "abandoned cars and trailer parks everywhere" in the vicinity. This creates an initial impression that is far from inviting or safe. The driveway leading to the property itself has been noted as "half paved" and the designated "parking spot" as merely a "muddy area," where vehicles have reportedly gotten stuck.

Furthermore, accessibility is complicated by the nature of the property as private land. Visitors have reported being met by individuals asserting that the location is private property and demanding they "go back where you came from," even when attempting to clarify pre-booked arrangements. This indicates a potential disconnect in communication or management regarding public access versus private use.

Given the reports of challenging road conditions, potentially unsafe surroundings, and issues with property access, prospective visitors should exercise extreme caution and conduct thorough independent verification of current conditions and access policies directly with the property owner or booking platform before attempting to visit.

Services Offered

Based on the consistent accounts from multiple recent visitors, Tranquillum Forest appears to offer little to no traditional campground or rental services, leading to significant disappointment and safety concerns for guests who made reservations.

  • No Standard Camping Amenities: Unlike typical campgrounds that offer designated sites, restrooms, potable water, or fire rings, visitor reviews explicitly state "don’t expect any campsite amenities whatsoever." This suggests a completely primitive or undeveloped setup, even for what might be advertised as a "campground."
  • Lack of Basic Security and Safety Features: A critical concern raised by guests is the apparent absence of basic security. Reports include "no dead bolt on the door" of a structure perceived as a "house," with a key usable "only from the outside." The presence of someone's RV "parked right in front of the ‘house’" and an "unchained German shepherd running towards" arriving guests, coupled with an owner allegedly "kicking us out" immediately, points to a severe lack of guest safety protocols and a hostile environment.
  • Unmaintained Property: Descriptions highlight a "completely unmaintained" yard with "weeds growing everywhere, mud pits, and random objects," resembling a "junkyard looking place next to it." This suggests a significant lack of upkeep, impacting both aesthetics and safety.
  • Misleading Representations: A major point of contention for visitors is that the "pictures on Airbnb were so misleading" and "do not represent how it actually looks." This indicates a fundamental discrepancy between advertised conditions and reality, leading guests to feel they "arrived at the wrong property."
  • Poor Host Communication: Reviews consistently mention "very bad" host communication, with issues arising from initial interactions, attempts to resolve concerns, and requests for refunds. This lack of effective communication exacerbates the negative experience for guests facing unexpected conditions.

In summary, based on available public reviews, Tranquillum Forest does not appear to provide any reliable or safe services typically associated with a campground or rental property. Prospective visitors should be aware that their expectations of even basic amenities and safety may not be met.

Features / Highlights

Based on the provided customer reviews, the "features" or "highlights" of Tranquillum Forest are, unfortunately, predominantly negative aspects that serve as cautionary points for potential visitors, rather than desirable attributes.

  • Misleading Photography: The most "highlighted" feature, albeit negatively, is the effectiveness of the photographer in making the property appear appealing online, despite the stark reality. As one reviewer stated, "Pictures on Airbnb were so misleading, photographer deserves 5 stars, but this place not even this one." This suggests a significant discrepancy between advertisement and reality.
  • Secluded Location (with caveats): While some might seek a "secluded" location, the reports indicate that this seclusion comes with the downside of a "scary looking dirt road" and an environment described as a "junkyard looking place" with "abandoned cars and trailer parks." This isn't the tranquil seclusion many campers desire.
  • "Backcountry" Feel (unintentional): The "overgrown" nature and lack of amenities might technically qualify it as a "backcountry" experience in the sense of being undeveloped. However, this is not presented as a deliberate feature for self-reliant camping, but rather a result of neglect.
  • Potential for Unexpected Encounters: The mention of an "unchained German shepherd running towards me" and immediate confrontation by property owners ("kicking us out") are certainly "features" of the experience, albeit highly unwelcome and potentially dangerous ones.
  • Lack of Safety and Security: The absence of a deadbolt on the door, the key only working from the outside, and an RV parked directly in front of the "house" are highlighted as significant security concerns by past guests.
  • "Breaking Bad Scene" Ambiance: One reviewer vividly described the property as reminding them of a "Breaking Bad scene," which, while a "feature" of their perception, is clearly intended as a warning, not an endorsement.

In essence, the "highlights" of Tranquillum Forest, as reported by customers, are unfortunately strong deterrents, emphasizing a problematic and potentially unsafe environment rather than desirable attributes for a camping or lodging experience.

Contact Information

Given the severe negative reviews and concerns raised about safety, misleading representation, and hostile interactions at Tranquillum Forest, potential visitors should exercise extreme caution if attempting to contact or book this property. The information provided below is based on the request, but users are strongly advised to prioritize their safety and verify any claims directly.

Address: 12665 Terranova Pl SE, Olalla, WA 98359, USA

Phone: (206) 636-8136

Mobile Phone: +1 206-636-8136

It is crucial to note that direct contact should be approached with an understanding of the past visitor experiences. If considering any form of booking, especially through platforms like Airbnb, ensure that you fully understand their dispute resolution and refund policies in case the reality of the property does not match what is advertised. Always prioritize personal safety and well-being over a pre-booked reservation if the situation on arrival appears unsafe or significantly different from expectations.

For alternative camping or lodging options in the Olalla area or the broader Kitsap Peninsula, it is highly recommended to consult reputable sources such as Washington State Parks, National Park Service campgrounds (e.g., Olympic National Park, though further afield), or well-established private RV parks and campgrounds with consistently positive and verifiable reviews. These official and reputable sources will provide reliable information on amenities, safety, and legitimate booking procedures.

Conclusion: Why This Place is Not Suitable for Locals

For Washington locals seeking a genuine and safe outdoor experience, Tranquillum Forest in Olalla, WA, appears to be profoundly unsuitable and should be approached with extreme caution, if at all. The detailed accounts from recent visitors paint a consistent picture of a property that fails to meet even basic expectations for comfort, safety, and accurate representation, making it highly unsuitable for a relaxing or enjoyable getaway.

Washington residents value reliable access to nature, clear communication from hosts, and a sense of security when engaging in outdoor activities or booking accommodations. Tranquillum Forest, according to multiple independent reports, actively undermines these core expectations. The described difficult and potentially unsafe access via a "scary looking dirt road" and "muddy area" for parking is a significant deterrent. More critically, the reported absence of basic security measures (e.g., "no dead bolt on the door"), the presence of an "unchained German shepherd," and hostile interactions with property owners ("kicking us out") create an environment that is deeply concerning and frankly dangerous.

The discrepancy between the online "misleading pictures" and the "junkyard looking place" on arrival signifies a profound lack of transparency and a disregard for guest experience. In a state brimming with beautiful and well-managed parks and campgrounds, from the Olympic Peninsula to the Cascades, choosing a location with such consistently negative and alarming reviews is ill-advised. Locals have abundant options for safe, enjoyable, and well-maintained camping, whether through Washington State Parks, National Forest campgrounds, or reputable private establishments.

Ultimately, Tranquillum Forest, based on current public information, does not offer the "tranquility" or "forest" experience that Washingtonians seek. Instead, it presents a risk of disappointment, discomfort, and potential safety hazards. Locals are strongly encouraged to bypass this property and instead explore the countless verifiable and positively reviewed camping and outdoor recreation opportunities that our beautiful state genuinely offers.
