Trails End Campground Introduce
Welcome to Trails End Campground, a truly special and serene destination nestled high in the mountains of Wyoming. For those seeking an authentic outdoor experience away from the hustle and bustle, this campground serves as the perfect base camp. Located at a high elevation of 9,350 feet, it offers breathtaking views and a direct connection to the stunning natural beauty that defines the region. Whether you're an experienced backpacker, a family looking for a weekend getaway, or an RVer seeking a quiet spot, Trails End provides a simple yet enriching environment. Its location at the end of a paved road makes it feel like a true retreat, a place where the journey ends and the adventure begins. This is not a bustling resort, but rather a quiet, no-frills campground designed for those who appreciate the raw, unspoiled beauty of the Wyoming wilderness.
The campground is situated at Skyline Dr, Cora, WY 82925, USA, placing it in a prime location for accessing the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the surrounding wilderness. To reach Trails End Campground, you'll travel approximately 10 miles from the nearby town of Pinedale. The journey itself is scenic, leading you up a paved road that winds its way through the landscape. The campground's address places it at the very end of this road, hence its fitting name. While it feels remote and secluded, it's not a difficult place to find. Its high elevation and location at the end of the road mean that cell service can be spotty, but a short drive back down the main paved road to a viewpoint can often provide a connection. This lack of constant connectivity is, for many, part of the appeal, encouraging a complete disconnect from daily life and a deeper immersion in nature. The peacefulness of the location, far from highway noise, is a major draw for many campers.
Services Offered
RV Camping: A few sites are available that can accommodate recreational vehicles and travel trailers. Specifically, sites #2 through #5 are noted as being large enough for RVs, making it a viable option for those traveling in larger vehicles. However, space is limited, so it's best to arrive with that in mind.
Tent Sites: Trails End Campground is well-suited for traditional tent camping. The total of eight sites provides a number of options for setting up your tent and enjoying the outdoors. The sites are known to be well-maintained and offer a sense of privacy.
Public Restroom: A vault toilet is available for public use. While it is a basic facility, it provides a necessary convenience for campers. It's important to note that this is the only restroom facility on-site.
Running Water: Please note that there is no running water available at this campground. Campers must bring their own water supply for drinking, cooking, and other needs. This is a crucial detail for anyone planning a visit, as nearby options for refilling are limited.
Kid-Friendly Hikes: The area is excellent for families. There are kid-friendly hikes that are easily accessible from the campground, allowing children to explore and connect with nature in a safe and manageable way. The general atmosphere is good for kids, making it a great family destination.
Features and Highlights
Hiking Trailhead Access: One of the biggest highlights of Trails End Campground is its function as a primary trailhead for access to the surrounding wilderness. The campground is directly adjacent to a large area for horse trailer parking and hiking trailhead parking, serving as the gateway to numerous trails leading into the mountains.
Dog-Friendly: The campground welcomes pets, and dogs are allowed to join their owners on their camping adventure. This is a great feature for pet owners who want to bring their furry friends along to enjoy the vast outdoor spaces.
Affordable Camping: The camping fee is an affordable $12 per night, making it a budget-friendly option for a longer stay. The stay limit is 14 days, allowing for extended exploration of the area.
First-Come, First-Served: All sites at Trails End Campground are first-come, first-served, meaning no reservations are required or possible. This adds to the spontaneity of a camping trip and ensures a truly open and accessible experience for all.
On-Site Camp Host: An on-site camp host is available at the A-frame info building. The host can provide assistance and information, ensuring that your stay is as smooth and comfortable as possible. This presence adds a layer of security and guidance to the rustic camping experience.
