Look no further than Thousand Trails Carolina Landing, a popular RV and camping resort nestled in Fair Play, South Carolina. Located on the sprawling shores of Lake Hartwell, this campground offers a blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities, making it a go-to destination for many families and outdoor enthusiasts in our beloved state.
Thousand Trails Carolina Landing presents itself as a place for both relaxation and outdoor adventure. While some visitors have shared concerns regarding site leveling and road conditions, the overall sentiment from many campers points to a resort that strives to provide an enjoyable experience. The dedication of the staff, as highlighted by multiple positive reviews, consistently comes through. Many guests appreciate the resort's amenities and the scenic views that Lake Hartwell provides, creating an environment where "priceless family memories" can certainly be made. As with any popular destination, experiences can vary, but the potential for a fulfilling lakeside retreat is undeniably present here.
Thousand Trails Carolina Landing is conveniently situated at 120 Carolina Landing Dr, Fair Play, SC 29643, USA. This location places it firmly in the Upstate region of South Carolina, with excellent accessibility from major population centers like Greenville, South Carolina (approximately an hour's drive away), and even Atlanta, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina. This makes it an ideal choice for South Carolina residents seeking a relatively short drive to a scenic lakeside destination.
The campground's direct access to Lake Hartwell is a significant draw. Lake Hartwell is one of the most visited reservoirs east of the Mississippi River, renowned for its 960 miles of shoreline and excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, and various water sports. While some access points to the lake from the campground might involve steep inclines, the presence of public boat launches nearby, such as Durham Ramp, offers alternative, easier options for launching your own vessel. The setting amidst the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, with thousand-year-old oak trees, adds to the picturesque and tranquil ambiance, making the drive to the resort a part of the relaxing journey.
Thousand Trails Carolina Landing offers a range of services and amenities designed to cater to various camping preferences, from RVs to tent sites and even cabin rentals. While some facilities might show their age, the resort aims to provide a comprehensive experience for its guests.
Services Offered:
- RV campsites with varying hookups (30 Amp and 50 Amp available).
- Tent camping sites in designated areas.
- Fully equipped cabins available for rent, some being pet-friendly.
- A swimming pool, often praised as a highlight for cooling off on warm South Carolina days.
- Access to Lake Hartwell for water activities like fishing, boating, and potentially swimming.
- Miniature golf course for family fun.
- Clubhouse/Lounge for gatherings.
- Horseshoes and ping pong facilities.
- Planned children's activities (seasonal).
- On-site laundry facilities are typically available at Thousand Trails resorts, though it's always good to verify current status.

- WiFi is available, though often requires a fee for access.
- Sanitary dump station for RVs.
- RV storage options.

It is important for campers, especially those with larger RVs (over 35ft), to be aware that some sites might be unlevel and roads can be tight. Planning ahead and potentially calling the park directly to discuss site suitability for larger rigs is a recommended step to ensure a smoother experience. Despite these points, many big rig owners successfully navigate the park and enjoy their stay.
Features / Highlights:
- Picturesque setting in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains on Lake Hartwell.

The resort’s location provides a convenient base for exploring not only the lake itself but also nearby mountain destinations and the myriad of golf courses and festivals that South Carolina is known for. While a general store for RV accessories or common necessities might not be on-site, nearby towns in Fair Play and Westminster would likely provide these needs.

Thousand Trails Carolina Landing Reviews
These were the most unlevel camp sites probably in the entire US.. everything was super outdated the roads had big pot holes in them and mud and clay everywhere. We had zero room to put any chairs at our site it was just a big mud hill full of big roots sticking up.. all the spots are super close together and the roads are very tight especially for big rigs over 35ft. The staff wasn't very friendly when asked for extra leveling blocks which took us over an hour just to try and get everything level. Oh a lake to go fishing or swimming at? Better bring your 4x4 to climb back up the massive hills to get back up the moutain road. We were highly disappointed with this campground and sadly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Also if you want wifi you have to pay for it. There is no trash pick up as well. The only positive thing here was the pool. Also there is no general store for necessities like rv accessories food or laundry detergent.. We traveled 6 hours thinking we were coming to South Carolina for a nice campground stay in our RV and this place was terrible. Im sorry.

Jun 28, 2025 · Sally LebigOne of my favorite places to stay! This place is absolutely beautiful. The people here are helpful & kind.If you're looking for the beauty of nature, this is a good place to be. Put a window bird feeder out, take a hike, walk through the woods, sit by the lake! The sites themselves are mostly uneven & can run small but once you're set up, it's all worth it!
Apr 12, 2025 · Sharon Mikesell-BrownThe camping ground has decent spots and not so decent spots. Though it was relatively clean, it was not maintained at all. If you are looking to pay to camp and you pick your location you may be lucky. If you're looking to book through your annual pass with Thousand Trails, I would not recommend it. We also got a nail in our tire.
Jun 21, 2025 · Neenie TraganiWhoever takes care of this part in fair play, need to be fired and somebody else needs to take care of it. Because everything is never been updated. I am very disappointed in this and do not like it won't go back until everything is back to where it should be the park has not been update and years. I don't recommend having to not have sewage. And restrooms, dirty and look like they're from the 1960s, I thought it was ridiculous. The girls in the office were good. The young man on the Golf cart, it helped us in the park. We're good. The people that are in charge of taking care of the park as far as the handyman, they suck.
