4.0
Nice little campground, way back in the woods. Mosquitos weren't to bad. Large spacious camping area. Verizon service was limited. Gravel roads to get back to the camp sites. Has wells for water and a dumpster for garbage. Camp host was on site during our stay Incase you had any issues. Was quiet and couldn't hear traffic and other campers abided by the quiet times. - Bryan Kuss

The Eastwood Campground Introduce

Are you a Wisconsin resident yearning for a peaceful escape deep within the natural beauty of our state? Do you seek a tranquil camping experience where the sounds of traffic fade into the whispers of the forest? Look no further than The Eastwood Campground in Westboro, WI. Tucked away in the expansive Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Eastwood offers a rustic and serene environment, ideal for those who truly wish to disconnect and immerse themselves in Wisconsin's stunning wilderness. While perhaps one of the lesser-visited gems on the Mondeaux Flowage, its quiet charm and spacious sites make it a treasured spot for campers seeking solitude and an authentic connection with nature. Whether you're an avid hiker, a quiet angler, or simply looking for a calm spot to unwind, The Eastwood Campground provides the perfect setting for your next unforgettable Wisconsin adventure.

The Eastwood Campground is nestled at Forest Rd 104, Westboro, WI 01581, USA, deep within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Its location in Westboro places it in a beautiful, forested region of Wisconsin, specifically near the picturesque Mondeaux Flowage. For Wisconsin locals, this spot offers a readily accessible yet wonderfully secluded camping experience without the need to venture to the state's northernmost reaches to find quality rustic camping. While the campground is "way back in the woods," as noted by visitors, access is via gravel roads that lead directly to the campsites, making it generally approachable for most vehicles.

Eastwood’s position within the Mondeaux region is a significant advantage. This area is recognized for its impressive scenery and diverse recreational opportunities, often surprising those who might expect such quality only in far northern Wisconsin. The campground is just a short walk or drive from the Mondeaux Dam Lodge, which serves as a hub for visitors, offering a welcoming beach area and extensive, accessible shoreline perfect for fishing or simply enjoying the water. Furthermore, The Eastwood Campground is conveniently close to the renowned Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The segment of the Ice Age Trail in this part of Wisconsin is notably well-maintained, providing excellent opportunities for hiking and exploring the state's geological history. While some visitors note that the immediate shoreline at Eastwood might be less dynamic than other campgrounds on the Mondeaux Flowage like Spearhead Point, Westpoint, or Picnic Point, its deep forest setting offers a different, equally compelling kind of natural beauty, particularly stunning in the fall when the deciduous trees showcase their vibrant colors. This balance of seclusion and nearby points of interest makes Eastwood an appealing choice for local campers.

The Eastwood Campground provides essential services designed to facilitate a comfortable and authentic rustic camping experience. While it emphasizes immersion in nature, fundamental amenities are thoughtfully provided.

  • Spacious Campsites: The campground offers large, spacious camping areas that provide ample room for setups and privacy between campers.
  • Well Water Pumps: Potable water is available via wells, allowing campers to access fresh water during their stay. It's advisable to bring containers for water collection.
  • Dumpster for Garbage: A communal dumpster is provided for trash disposal, ensuring the campground remains clean and helping campers properly manage their waste.

  • On-Site Camp Host: During peak seasons, a camp host is often on-site, providing assistance, answering questions, and ensuring a smooth experience for all campers. This presence helps manage any issues and maintains quiet hours.
  • Fire Rings and Picnic Tables: Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring for campfires and cooking, along with a picnic table for outdoor dining and activities.

It is worth noting that while some reviews mention limited Verizon service, this can be seen as an advantage for those seeking a true digital detox. The campground is actively undergoing changes, with a reduction from 22 to 12 sites, focusing on maintaining the waterfront sites and those closer to the water, ensuring that the most desirable spots remain.

The Eastwood Campground stands out with several key features and highlights that contribute to its appeal as a cherished Wisconsin camping destination. These attributes underscore its commitment to providing a serene and natural outdoor experience.

  • Secluded and Quiet Atmosphere: Located deep within the woods, Eastwood is known for its peaceful environment. Campers frequently report being unable to hear traffic, and fellow campers generally abide by quiet hours, fostering a truly tranquil retreat.
  • Mature Deciduous Forest Setting: The campground is nestled within a scenic, mature deciduous forest. This provides abundant natural shade, a beautiful canopy, and is particularly stunning in the fall when the foliage transforms into vibrant colors.
  • Waterfront Proximity: While not all original sites were on the water, the ongoing reduction in sites is focusing on maintaining those closer to or on the Mondeaux Flowage, enhancing the experience for future visitors seeking water access.
  • Proximity to Mondeaux Dam Lodge: Just a short walk or drive away, the Mondeaux Dam Lodge offers additional amenities including a public beach and extensive accessible shoreline for fishing, providing more recreational options.
