These people are absolutely wonderful people! From digging you out of the mud to bringing firewood, to lending you some chairs these people know what it means to serve others! I have not stayed at any campground where the campers were a priority. The facilities are kept clean. There is plenty of space for some privacy if that's what you're looking for. They are easy to find. This place is worth a visit if you're in the area! - Nicoh Key

Location and Accessibility

Swayback Campground is conveniently located at 2656 Old US Hwy 231, Wetumpka, AL 36092, USA. This address places it within the city limits of Wetumpka, a historic and growing community in Elmore County, Alabama. Wetumpka is often referred to as "The City of Natural Beauty," situated along the Coosa River and known for its unique geological features, including the impact crater.

The accessibility of Swayback Campground is a significant advantage for campers from across Alabama and neighboring states. Old US Highway 231 provides direct access, and its proximity to major routes ensures ease of travel. Wetumpka itself is located northeast of Montgomery, Alabama's capital, which is typically a short drive away. This allows campers to enjoy a serene natural setting while still having convenient access to urban amenities, supplies, and attractions in Montgomery, should they need or desire them.

Beyond the immediate convenience, the Wetumpka area offers a wealth of recreational opportunities. The Coosa River is a prime spot for fishing, kayaking, and boating. The area is also known for its extensive network of trails, including the popular Swayback Bridge Trail, which offers miles of hiking and mountain biking. While some reviews express concerns about trees immediately around the campground, the broader natural landscape of Wetumpka provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities. The location allows campers to enjoy the peace of the outdoors while remaining connected to local services and the cultural heritage of central Alabama.

Swayback Campground aims to provide a range of services that enhance the camping experience for its visitors. Based on customer feedback and general campground operations, the following are the likely services offered:

  • RV Sites with Hookups:

The campground offers RV sites, and publicly available information suggests some sites may include full hookups (water, electricity, and sewer), with 30 AMP electric available. This caters to various types of recreational vehicles.

  • Tent Camping Areas:

Swayback Campground also provides areas for tent camping, accommodating those who prefer a more traditional ground-level experience. Tent sites typically have a 3-night maximum stay.
