Sunset Shore Campground Introduce
For Ohio locals dreaming of camping directly on the shores of Lake Erie, with the gentle lapping of waves and breathtaking sunsets as your backdrop, Sunset Shore Campground in Port Clinton offers a truly unique and memorable experience. This isn't a sprawling resort with endless amenities, but rather a charming, rustic spot that delivers on its promise of an authentic beach camping adventure.
Sunset Shore Campground stands out for its incredible direct beach access. Imagine pitching your tent just steps from the water, with a clean sandy beach perfect for relaxing and playing. Reviewers consistently highlight the beauty of the location, emphasizing the clean beach and the shallow water that extends far out, making it ideal and safe for children to play. This feature alone makes it a highly desirable destination for Ohio families looking for a classic lakeside camping experience without the crowds of larger, more developed parks.
While the amenities are intentionally basic, focusing on the core elements of camping, the community aspect and friendly atmosphere receive strong praise. Past campers speak of a "super nice" environment, with staff who are attentive and helpful – even going so far as to secure a tent against unexpected winds! This level of personal touch can make all the difference, fostering a welcoming feeling that encourages repeat visits.
It's important for prospective campers to be aware of the more rustic nature of the facilities, particularly concerning restrooms, as highlighted in some reviews. However, for those who prioritize the prime beach location, the peaceful ambiance, and a budget-friendly price, these aspects are often considered minor trade-offs. Sunset Shore Campground is for the Ohioan who loves traditional tent camping, appreciates direct water access, and seeks a charming, laid-back setting for their Lake Erie adventures.

Sunset Shore Campground Reviews
Amazing little place where you can camp right on the beach. Everyone is super nice there, we were gone from our tent and the wind picked up, our tent started to blow away and they came and tied it down nice and tight. The beach is clean, the water is shallow a good way out, so perfect for littles to play in. Fire rings are provided, there are a few picnic tables and chairs. No bathrooms, but porta-potty nearby is maintained. Will definitely be going back.
Jul 12, 2023 · Alicia BorgheseIm giving it a soft three stars for tent camping. The location is great, right on a sandy beach. The owner however, greated me with a "what?" When she answered the door. She didnt want to let us stay with our dog becasue "all dogs are yappy" but we convinced her since no one else was in the tent sights. The picnic tables where all stacked on eachother except for 1 that wasnt in a great spot. They had 2 portajons that were clean and just fine. No potable water anywhere. Lots of little trash all over the beachAgain, the spot was great, swiming on the beach was perfect. With a few little changes it could be a 5 star spot.
Aug 12, 2019 · Jeffrey WolfWe really enjoyed camping out on the sand right on Lake Erie! Bring your own tent, kayak, fishing poles, hammock, and food! They provide a fire ring. The owner was extremely friendly and the price was very affordable! The only downfall was how awful the mosquitoes were:/ other than that it was a relaxing stay!
Nov 22, 2019 · Morgan McAteeVery nice owners, loved our spot we had for the weekend. The beach is awesome!! Super fun!!
Sep 03, 2018 · Mandi SpitlerI loved camping here. The water was beautiful, it takes some getting used to being in sand the whole time but it's awesome to sleep right on the beach next to the water with a fire going. They keep the port-o-potty very clean which is nice. Hoping to be back there again this summer and more prepared for this primitive style camping.
