Look no further than Sunny's Campgrounds in Wauseon, a truly massive destination that has captured the attention of many, from seasoned RVers to those seeking a lively retreat. This comprehensive guide will delve into what makes Sunny's Campgrounds a unique and noteworthy option for your next Ohio camping experience.
Campgrounds across the Buckeye State come in all shapes and sizes, but Sunny's Campgrounds distinguishes itself through its sheer scale and diverse offerings. It's not just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it's a sprawling recreational hub designed to cater to a variety of camping styles and preferences. Whether you're in search of a bustling weekend with friends, a long-term seasonal spot, or a place with amenities that go beyond the ordinary, Sunny's aims to provide a distinct camping experience.
Customer feedback provides a rich tapestry of perspectives on Sunny's Campgrounds. One long-time "weekender" expressed strong feelings about recent changes, specifically regarding tent camping rules. They noted, "Last year the camp changed its rules to only having 5 sites in the entire campground that allow tent camping... Huddled in the dirt all around the bathroom with one being by the swimming pond but is booked until the beginning of August." This reviewer felt the change was discriminatory against tent campers, suggesting, "SUNNYS CAMPGROUND DOES NOT WANT YOU HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MEANS OR ABILITY TO OWN AND CAMP IN A CAMPER." This perspective highlights a shift in the park's focus and is an important consideration for tent-only campers.
Conversely, another reviewer, a Passport America member, provided an overwhelmingly positive and detailed account. They exclaimed, "It's ginormous!😱 This might be the largest campground property I have ever stayed at! They have 800 sites here. 80 of them are for overnighters 👍🏻" This person strongly recommended having "a golf cart or at least an e-bike in a property this large." They observed that "The streets are very wide and quite level and free of any types of bumps or potholes," though they did note noise and dust from the gravel surfaces. Crucially, this reviewer described Sunny's as "very much a party place. 🥳 It is quite active on weekends. They have a food truck and a small grocery store on site!😳" They also pointed out the availability of "very choice sites here 🤩 but you would have to be in the right spot at the right time in order to get one if it became available. Most of the sites are too close together or out in direct sunlight. Some are on the main outside street. But what is unusual and very nice here is many of them are on the water. And they also have a forest section!🌲🌲 And a real full size golf course!🏌🏻♂️⛳" These diverse reviews paint a picture of a large, active campground with a strong leaning towards RV camping and a lively weekend atmosphere.
Sunny's Campgrounds is conveniently located at 12399 Co Rd 13, Wauseon, OH 43567, USA. Wauseon is a charming village situated in Fulton County, Ohio, placing Sunny's within easy reach for many residents across the state and surrounding areas. Its location provides a balance of rural tranquility and accessibility to local amenities.
The park's address on County Road 13 indicates its position off major thoroughfares, offering a sense of escape while remaining accessible. For those traveling by RV, the wide and level streets within the campground, as noted by a reviewer, make navigation easy for even the largest rigs. While the gravel surfaces can create some noise and dust, the overall ease of movement within the expansive property is a significant benefit. Being in Wauseon, campers are also within a reasonable drive of other Northwestern Ohio attractions and larger cities like Toledo, providing options for day trips and further exploration should they desire a break from the campground's extensive offerings. This strategic location makes it a practical choice for both short-term getaways and extended stays for Ohioans.
Given its immense size and reputation as an active destination, Sunny's Campgrounds provides a wide array of services designed to enhance the camping experience for its numerous guests. These offerings cater to convenience, comfort, and recreation.
Extensive RV Sites: With 800 sites in total, including 80 designated for overnighters, Sunny's offers a vast selection of RV hook-up sites. While specific details on amperage (30/50 amp) or water/sewer connections are not explicitly stated in reviews, a campground of this size would typically offer full hook-ups for the majority of its RV sites to accommodate various camper needs.
Limited Tent Camping Sites: As highlighted in a recent review, the park has significantly limited its tent camping options to only five specific sites, generally clustered around the bathroom facilities. This indicates a strong preference and focus on RV camping.
On-site Food Truck and Small Grocery Store: For ultimate convenience, the presence of a food truck and a small grocery store on-site means guests don't have to leave the campground for meals or essential supplies, enhancing the "resort-like" feel.
Wide and Level Roads: The campground boasts wide and level internal roads, which are a major plus for navigating a property of this scale, especially with large RVs and golf carts.
Bathrooms/Bathhouses: As indicated by the proximity of tent sites, well-maintained bathroom facilities are available for guest use.
Access for Golf Carts/E-bikes: Given the immense size, the park is clearly set up for personal transportation like golf carts and e-bikes, making it easy for guests to traverse the property.
Sunny's Campgrounds truly stands out due to its impressive list of features and highlights, many of which contribute to its reputation as a "party place" and a comprehensive recreational hub.
Massive Size (800 Sites): This is arguably the most defining feature. Being one of the largest campgrounds means more space, more variety, and the capacity to host a large number of campers simultaneously, contributing to a lively atmosphere, especially on weekends.
On-site Full-Size Golf Course: A major draw for golf enthusiasts, having a real full-size golf course within the campground property is a rare and highly desirable amenity, offering recreation right at your doorstep.
Beautiful Lake Access and Water Sites: Many of the "very nice" sites are located "on the water," providing scenic views and direct access to a lake, likely for fishing, swimming, or other water activities. One reviewer specifically mentioned a "swimming pond" near some tent sites.
Forest Section: For those who prefer a more natural setting, the presence of a "forest section" offers shaded and potentially more secluded camping spots, contrasting with the open, sunny areas.
Active and Party-Oriented Atmosphere: Described as "very much a party place" and "quite active on weekends," Sunny's is ideal for campers who enjoy a lively, social environment with planned or spontaneous gatherings.
Well-Maintained Grounds and Infrastructure: Despite its size, the grounds are noted as "beautiful and well-maintained," with streets that are "very wide and quite level and free of any types of bumps or potholes," ensuring a pleasant experience.
Variety of Site Types: While many sites are close together or in direct sunlight, the availability of "choice sites" including those on the water and in the forest section, offers options for different preferences.

Sunny's Campgrounds Reviews
First off I’ll start by saying I love Sunny’s or at least I thought I did, and that I’m not the one to take the time to leave a review definitely not a negative one. I’ve been coming to Sunny’s as a “weekender” for around 10 years and after my stay last night I’m not sure how much longer that will continue. Last year the camp changed its rules to only having 5 sites in the entire campground that allow tent camping. Where are those sites? Huddled in the dirt all around the bathroom with one being by the swimming pond but is booked until the beginning of August. Sure it may be a good thing to be next to the bathroom but not with all of the traffic or the possibility of unwanted smells. The pictures you see are where we USED to be able to camp and of vendors that are allowed to set up with TENTS on a non tent campsite. I am very disappointed in the owner of Sunny’s to basically make it impossible for a family to camp here unless they own a camper, it feels very discriminatory. All those empty sites with the nice grass you see? Can’t put a tent there. There is no logical reason I can think of for this rule change other than SUNNYS CAMPGROUND DOES NOT WANT YOU HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MEANS OR ABILITY TO OWN AND CAMP IN A CAMPER. I don’t expect anything to change from writing this review but it needed to be said.
Jun 28, 2025 · Marylou FIt has been a while since I have taken advantage of my lifetime Passport America membership. 🛂This property popped up on my route. 🛣️It's ginormous!😱 This might be the largest campground property I have ever stayed at! They have 800 sites here. 80 of them are for overnighters 👍🏻Definitely a must have a golf cart or at least an e-bike in a property this large. The streets are very wide and quite level and free of any types of bumps or potholes. They are quite nice, except for the noise from the gravel surface and the dust. They are so noisy you can hear a bicycle coming from 100 yards away. So every time a golf cart or a car comes by it will be noticeable.🙉This property is very much a party place. 🥳It is quite active on weekends. They have a food truck and a small grocery store on site!😳There are some very choice sites here 🤩 but you would have to be in the right spot at the right time in order to get one if it became available. Most of the sites are too close together or out in direct sunlight. Some are on the main outside street. But what is unusual and very nice here is many of them are on the water. And they also have a forest section!🌲🌲And a real full size golf course!🏌🏻♂️⛳
Aug 22, 2024 · Michael ScottI’ve been coming to Sunny’s for 12 years now I love fishing here and swimming I always bring my friends so they can get the experience too! Oct 21, 2024 · Arieanna BlackmoreStayed one night while traveling. Would stay again. Very nice campground. VERY LARGE! Lots of campers are full-timers or campers where people keep their campers and come for a weekend or week. Everything is kept very clean and maintained. It was easy access from the interstate and near a town where we were able to go eat.
Jul 08, 2022 · Lacreta CarrMy grandma and grandpa go here and have a trailer up there. Although you have to pay and have a pass to get in, it's really cool up there. They have various events on Halloween like costume contest, trick or treating, and a dance place. It's very fun and you can also drive around and see all the decorations. As far as I know, people are really friendly and nice. Would recommend if you have a trailer. Also there is a pond with fish but if you go fishing you have to throw the fish back in. Next to the pond and other place there are 3 parks or play grounds.
