Looked nice but we didn't actually stay in this park. They are establishing grass. So no tents or rugs on the grass. We tent camp, so this wouldn't work for us. We stayed at the other Terrace Parks and had great service and they allowed us on the grass 😉 - Nikcole

Summit Campground Introduce

For Iowans seeking a convenient and amenity-rich camping experience in the Quad Cities area, Summit Campground, nestled within West Lake Park in Davenport, offers an excellent option. Whether you’re an RVer looking for full hookups or a tent camper needing a comfortable stopover, this campground provides a well-maintained environment with a focus on essential comforts. It's a prime choice for families, offering a playground for the kids, and a practical base for exploring the vibrant attractions of Davenport and the surrounding region. While its character may lean more towards developed camping than primitive wilderness, Summit Campground excels in providing a clean, accessible, and friendly atmosphere for your next Iowa adventure.

Summit Campground is strategically located at Unnamed Road, Davenport, IA 52804, USA, within the larger West Lake Park complex. This placement provides campers with easy access to the park's extensive offerings while being just a short drive from the urban amenities of Davenport. Its location on high ground is particularly beneficial, offering a safe and reliable option for travelers, especially when other areas along the Mississippi River might be affected by flooding. Accessing the campground involves navigating within West Lake Park, with the main registration and information office located at Gate 5 on 110th Ave. While one reviewer mentioned struggling to find Gate 5 and needing to exit back to the main road to see gate numbers, this is generally a minor navigational challenge. The campground operates seasonally, typically opening mid-April and closing mid-October, depending on weather conditions. This makes it a perfect spring, summer, and fall destination for Iowa locals looking for a nearby escape without venturing too far. Its proximity to downtown Davenport and major roads like Locust St or Kimberly Rd means quick access to a wide array of services, shopping, and dining.

Summit Campground provides a range of services designed to make your stay as comfortable and convenient as possible:

  • Electrical and Water Hookups: All campsites at Summit Campground come equipped with electric and water hookups, primarily 50 amp service, catering well to RV campers. Full sewer hookups are also available at certain sites.
  • Clean Restrooms: The restrooms are consistently maintained and noted for their cleanliness by campers, providing a pleasant experience.
  • Decent-Sized Showers: Showers are available and are described as decent in size, though the water temperature might require a bit of adjustment to get just right; importantly, they provide hot water.
  • Dump Station: A sanitary dump station is available for guests, a crucial amenity for RV users.
  • Campground Hosts: Dedicated campground hosts are on-site to assist campers with their needs, offering help and guidance, especially for late arrivals.
  • Firewood for Sale: Firewood is available for purchase at the campground, making it easy to enjoy a traditional campfire experience without having to bring your own supply.
  • Concessions: Concessions are available, particularly at the nearby beach facility during the season, offering convenient access to snacks and refreshments.
  • Seasonal Operation: The campground is open from mid-April to mid-October, aligning with prime camping seasons in Iowa.
  • Reservable Sites: While many sites are first-come, first-served, a limited number of sites are reservable from May through September, providing an option for securing your spot in advance.
  • Discounts: Senior citizen (62 and over) and Scott County resident discounts are available, offering a small saving for eligible campers.

Summit Campground offers several features and highlights that enhance the camping experience, particularly for those who appreciate convenience and family-friendly amenities:

  • Spacious Pull-Through Sites: Many sites, like spot 104 mentioned in a review, are pull-through, offering ample space for larger rigs like vans and trailers, and ease of access.
  • Proximity to Playground: The playground is a significant highlight for families with children, often conveniently located near campsites, allowing parents to supervise while setting up camp.
  • Cleanliness of Facilities: Despite being a popular spot, the bathrooms and showers are kept clean, a major positive point for many campers.
  • Access to West Lake Park Amenities: Being part of West Lake Park means campers have access to a wider range of activities including four lakes for fishing and paddling, a swim beach (seasonal with concessions), and miles of trails for hiking.
  • World-Class Disc Golf Course: West Lake Park boasts a world-class disc golf course, a notable attraction for enthusiasts.
  • Established Grass Areas (with restrictions): While tent campers should be aware of rules regarding tents and rugs on newly established grass areas, it indicates the park's efforts to maintain pleasant, grassy sites.
  • Convenient Stopover: For those on longer road trips or seeking a practical base for exploring the Quad Cities, Summit Campground serves as a very good stopover due to its amenities and location.
  • Friendly and Helpful Hosts: The campground hosts are noted for being helpful and accommodating, even for late arrivals.
