Store Gulch Campground

4.0
Had a wonderful time here. Beautiful couple of days in March. The river is like glass and there are beautiful beaches along the whole river. Went to swinging bridges and hung out for a bit. The campground only has 5 spots. Fortunately, we were the only people there and very few cars drive by on the main road. I'm assuming this is the off season. Nonetheless, we had a great time. We even brought out blue lights and we're amazed at all the scorpions we found. - adam bratland

Store Gulch Campground Introduce

For Oregon locals yearning for a truly authentic and peaceful outdoor experience, Store Gulch Campground offers an unparalleled retreat. Tucked away along the breathtaking Wild and Scenic Illinois River near Selma, this small, intimate campground provides a serene escape from the everyday hustle. Unlike busier, more developed recreational areas, Store Gulch is celebrated for its pristine conditions, tranquil ambiance, and direct access to a stunning stretch of river. Whether you're planning a quiet fishing trip, a family day of swimming on "beautiful beaches," or simply seeking a secluded spot to reconnect with Oregon's natural beauty, Store Gulch delivers an unforgettable experience. Its limited number of sites ensures a more private setting, making it a perfect hidden gem for Oregonians who cherish solitude and pristine environments.

Store Gulch Campground is conveniently located near Selma, OR 97538, USA. Its precise location is along the Wild and Scenic Illinois River, roughly 9 miles from Selma off Highway 199 on Forest Road 4301, past the Store Gulch Day Use Area and Guard Station. This places it deep within the heart of Southern Oregon, within the expansive Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. For Oregonians across the state, particularly those in the southern and central regions, the journey to Store Gulch offers a picturesque drive through diverse and beautiful landscapes.

From major population centers like Portland or Salem, the drive south on Interstate 5 will lead you to the Southern Oregon region, where you'll transition onto Highway 199. For those closer by, such as residents of Grants Pass or Medford, Store Gulch is a relatively straightforward drive, making it an excellent option for weekend excursions or even spontaneous day trips. The final approach to the campground involves Forest Road 4301, which is described as an "easy drivable path" or "easy road to get to this stretch of river." While the road is generally accessible, campers should be aware that forest service roads can sometimes be unpaved or narrow, adding to the rustic charm but requiring careful navigation, especially for larger vehicles. The seclusion of Store Gulch means "very few cars drive by on the main road," contributing significantly to its peaceful atmosphere. Despite its secluded feel, its proximity to Selma and Cave Junction means that basic supplies can be acquired in nearby towns if needed, balancing wilderness immersion with practical access.

Store Gulch Campground is designed to provide a back-to-basics camping experience, focusing on essential amenities that support a natural, undisturbed stay along the Illinois River.
