Steinhatchee Hills Campground Introduce
For Floridians seeking an authentic "Old Florida" experience, far removed from the high-rise beaches and tourist crowds, the **Steinhatchee Hills Campground** offers the perfect quiet retreat. Located in the heart of Florida’s Big Bend region, the town of Steinhatchee is a historic fishing village celebrated for its exceptional angling, annual scalloping season, and laid-back atmosphere. This campground provides a small, private, and exceptionally convenient base camp for all your local outdoor adventures, whether you’re coming for a quick weekend of fishing or a full season of scalloping.
Steinhatchee Hills Campground is a relatively new establishment, consciously designed to be a low-key, comfortable haven for RV enthusiasts. Unlike large, crowded resorts, it embraces a quieter, more personal approach, focusing on providing high-quality essential amenities within a cozy, wooded setting. The owners are highly praised by guests for being "great, very helpful and knowledgeable of the area," offering that invaluable local insight that truly enhances a Florida fishing or scalloping trip. The campground caters specifically to those traveling in recreational vehicles, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and Class A, B, and C motorhomes, ensuring a dedicated and specialized camping experience right in this charming coastal community.
This is an ideal choice for anyone prioritizing easy access to the Gulf of Mexico waters and the Steinhatchee River while enjoying the peace of a small, private campground under the shade of Florida's beautiful trees.
The campground is perfectly situated to serve as a hub for exploring the pristine Gulf Coast and the natural beauty of the Big Bend region. The address is **211 Hwy 51 NE, Steinhatchee, FL 32359, USA**. This location places it right off a main local thoroughfare (SR 51), making arrival and departure straightforward, even for big rigs.
Its location is key for the primary activities of the region. Guests are minutes away from the Steinhatchee River and are close to a public boat ramp, making launching your vessel for a day of fishing or scalloping effortless. Additionally, the campground’s proximity to local landmarks means you are never far from convenience. Restaurants like Roy's and Fiddler's, bait shops, and local marinas are all within a very short drive, allowing you to easily enjoy the town’s fresh seafood and friendly atmosphere. The central location is "good, close to marinas and restaurants," providing the perfect balance between convenient access to the town's offerings and the tranquility of a wooded campsite.
Steinhatchee itself is a highly regarded spot on the Gulf Coast. From the campground, you have easy access to a wealth of natural attractions. Numerous springs, including Manatee Springs State Park and Ichetucknee Springs State Park, are located within an hour’s drive, offering refreshing freshwater swimming and kayaking opportunities. The surrounding area also features bicycle paths and hiking trails for those who prefer to explore the "Pure Water Wilderness" on land.
Steinhatchee Hills Campground is designed to provide all the crucial infrastructure required for a comfortable and self-sufficient RV vacation. The focus is on clean, modern utility services, allowing campers to focus entirely on their outdoor activities.
- **Full RV Hookups:** The core offering is the availability of full hookup RV sites. Every site includes **RV electric hookup** with options for both 30 AMP and 50 AMP service, ensuring compatibility for all modern RVs.
- **Essential Utilities:** Guests benefit from **RV sewer hookup** and reliable **Running water** (city water) at each site. This full-service utility package provides the highest level of convenience for long-term or short-term stays.
- **Site Capacity:** The sites are spacious, accommodating vehicles up to approximately 40 feet in length, including various types of RVs and campers.
- **Shared Facilities:** Although a small, private campground, guests have access to valuable community facilities including a dedicated **Community picnic area**, a charcoal **Grill**, and a communal **Fire pit** for evening gatherings and cooking up the day's catch.
- **Convenience Amenities:** For extended stays, the campground also features a shared **Washer/dryer** for laundry and a **Freezer on site**—an essential amenity for anglers and scallopers needing to store or flash-freeze their catches.
- **Pet Policy:** The campground is **Pet Friendly**, welcoming leashed and well-mannered pets to join the adventure, though owners are expected to adhere to standard pet etiquette.
The unique highlights of Steinhatchee Hills Campground are rooted in its intimate size, natural setting, and strong connection to the local outdoor culture, providing a genuine and memorable Florida camping experience.
- **Wooded and Private Setting:** Unlike open, paved RV parks, the campground is "Nestled in the trees," offering a cozy, **shaded wooded lot** that enhances privacy and offers a cool respite from the Florida sun. The small number of sites ensures a "quiet, private space" for guests.
- **Proximity to World-Class Scalloping:** During the peak season (typically mid-June to early September), Steinhatchee is one of the top places in Florida for bay scalloping. The campground is an ideal launching point for this family-friendly activity, which involves snorkeling in the clear, shallow grass flats of the Gulf.
- **Angler's Paradise:** The Steinhatchee River and Deadman’s Bay are renowned year-round for their abundant fishing. Anglers can target redfish, spotted sea trout, grouper, and snapper. The camp's close distance to the boat ramps and local bait shops is a major advantage for fishermen.
- **Community Focus:** Though relatively new, the atmosphere is noted for its personalized service and friendly owners. They offer knowledge "of the area," which is invaluable for guests looking for the best spots to fish, the freshest seafood restaurants, or directions to nearby state parks.
- **Future Comforts:** As a developing campground, the owners are focused on improvements, with plans for additional amenities such as the introduction of picnic tables, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the guest experience over time.
- **Near Local Dining:** Being minutes away from local seafood eateries means you can easily enjoy the local tradition of "hook-and-cook" where you take your cleaned catch to a restaurant to have it prepared.

Steinhatchee Hills Campground Reviews
Owners are great, very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Location is good, close to marinas and restaurants. Only thing I would recommend is to have picnic tables. I know they will come in time as it’s a brand new campground.
