Springdale Campground Introduce
For Colorado locals who appreciate a true, unadorned connection with nature and breathtaking mountain vistas, Springdale Campground near Woodland Park offers an unparalleled rustic escape. This isn't a bustling, amenity-rich RV resort; instead, Springdale provides a "bare bones" camping experience that prioritizes peace, quiet, and stunning scenery. Situated on the scenic Rampart Range Road, this campground is a gateway to the vast expanse of the Pike National Forest, offering campers a chance to truly disconnect and immerse themselves in the high-altitude beauty of the Rockies. What it lacks in luxury, it more than makes up for in panoramic views of the iconic Pikes Peak and a profound sense of solitude, especially during weekdays. For Coloradans seeking an authentic, less-developed camping adventure where the sounds of nature prevail over generators and crowds, Springdale Campground is an ideal local gem waiting to be discovered and cherished.
Springdale Campground is located on Rampart Range Rd, Woodland Park, CO 80863, USA. This places it within the Pike National Forest, just a short drive from the charming mountain town of Woodland Park. For those traveling from Colorado Springs, the most common approach involves heading west on US-24 to Woodland Park, and then taking the scenic Rampart Range Road north. It's important to note that Rampart Range Road, while providing incredibly scenic access, is primarily a gravel and dirt road. While generally passable for most vehicles, conditions can vary depending on weather and recent maintenance, so checking local road conditions is always advisable. The campground's location high on the Rampart Range offers impressive elevation and clear air. While public transportation is not an option for reaching this more secluded campground, its relative proximity to Woodland Park (where you can find supplies and services) ensures it's still a convenient and accessible escape for residents across the Front Range. The journey to Springdale is part of the adventure, winding through beautiful pine forests and opening up to expansive mountain views.
As a rustic, "bare bones" campground, Springdale Campground offers fundamental services designed to facilitate a peaceful outdoor experience. It's important for visitors to arrive prepared for a less-serviced environment, allowing for a deeper immersion into nature. Services typically include:
- Individual Campsites: Designated sites are available for both tent camping and RVs, though campers should be prepared for varying terrain as some sites may not be perfectly flat. Sites are generally spaced for privacy.
- Fee Site: Springdale is a fee-based campground, requiring payment upon arrival. Specific fees should be confirmed on site or with the managing Forest Service district.
- Camp Host: A friendly and knowledgeable camp host is typically present at the front, available to assist campers, provide information, and oversee the campground. Reviews highlight their helpfulness and expertise.
- Basic Sanitation: While full flush restrooms may not always be available, the campground typically provides clean-smelling port-a-potties or vault toilets. Campers should be prepared for this type of facility.
- No Hookups: Springdale is primarily an off-grid experience, meaning there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups at individual sites. Campers must be self-sufficient regarding power and water.
- Quiet Environment: The campground's bare-bones nature tends to attract campers seeking peace and quiet, resulting in a generally tranquil atmosphere, especially during weekdays.
Springdale Campground’s primary allure lies in its natural features and the raw beauty it presents, offering several highlights for those seeking an authentic mountain getaway:
- Stunning Pikes Peak Views: A consistently praised highlight, the campground offers awesome and direct views of the iconic Pikes Peak, providing a breathtaking backdrop for your entire stay.
- High-Altitude Solitude: Situated on top of the mountain (on the Rampart Range), the campground provides a sense of remoteness and isolation, perfect for escaping city noise and light pollution. Campers often report having the place mostly to themselves during weekdays.
- Forested and Sheltered Sites: Campsites are nestled among pine trees, offering natural shelter and a sense of being truly "in the forest."

- Wildlife Opportunities: The quiet environment and natural surroundings make it a good spot for observing local wildlife.
- Hiking Access: While not having specific named trails starting directly from the campground, the surrounding Pike National Forest offers numerous hiking opportunities for exploration.
- "Bare Bones" Charm: For those who enjoy a more primitive and self-reliant camping experience, the lack of modern luxuries is a feature, promoting a deeper connection with nature.
- Knowledgeable Camp Host: The presence of an awesome camp host who "knows her business and her mountain" is a significant highlight, providing valuable local insights and assistance.

Springdale Campground Reviews
Didn't stay there, but appears well kept. Sites seem flat. Views of Pikes Peak are awesome. Seems to be a fee site. Campground host is parked up front. Sites are average distance apart, which shouldn't be an issue until people bring their generators, dogs, & screaming kids. Only 1 camper there when I passed on a Friday morning, so it was quiet.
May 23, 2025 · CDude! If I could give this place more stars I would! We spent two weeks chilling at this place on top of the mountain. Towards the weekend we had neighbors but most of the week it was us and the animals. It's a bare bones campground so be prepared to do without luxury! The camp host is awesome and the lady knows her business and her mountain! If I could, I'd never come off the place!
Sep 07, 2021 · Sabrina HawkinsWonderful host. One of the cleanest and calmest campgrounds we've had the pleasure of staying at. Bonus is having a deer wander through the site in the middle of the day! Definitely worth getting here early to grab a spot, we can't wait to go back!
Jul 19, 2020 · Caitlin KavanaughSuch a great campsite! Beautiful and quiet! It is basic- it doesn't have running water/shower and the road that leads to it is very rough and confusing to navigate but it's easy to overlook all that when you're there and experience encounters with wildlife at all times of the day.*Just don't do what we did!!*We came in exhausted and went to sleep immediately after setting up our tent and building a fire without reading the rules of the campsite. They have a lot of strict rules (i.e. that fire has to be completely out with no embers when asleep) and you need to follow them carefully in order to avoid getting heat from the campsite's ranger/host. But she was super nice after we were schooled on the rules. LolOverall, we loved it and hopefully will return someday in the future!
