3.0
I had booked two camping sites for the upcoming total solar eclipse based on a conversation with the property owner "Cowboy", who assured flexibility with our group size and the freedom to use their extensive property. Initially, the owner was accommodating, suggesting we book two tent sites for our group of 12-13, emphasizing the ample space and lack of strict limitations. We said that we were undecided on bringing our rv or tents and he said not to worry, that we were the first people booking and to just book the two tent sites. However, closer to our trip, the terms and his tone drastically changed. Upon calling to discuss waivers, we were informed that not only did we need to purchase an additional site, but we also had to upgrade to a more expensive RV site, with new restrictions imposed on tent numbers. This last-minute change, coupled with a firm no-refund policy, left us feeling uncomfortable and misled. The lack of consistency and professionalism in handling our booking has led us to cancel our plans, as we no longer feel confident in the experience awaiting us.I hope this review serves as a cautionary tale for others looking to book here. It's important to have clear, consistent communication and trust with property owners for such events, something that was unfortunately lacking in our experience. - Coryn Enfinger

Solar Eclipse Camping (Gillham, AR) Introduce

For Arkansans looking for a truly unique and often event-specific outdoor experience, Solar Eclipse Camping in Gillham, AR, offers a distinctive opportunity. Unlike traditional public campgrounds, this location appears to operate as a privately managed property, designed to accommodate larger groups and special events, such as the memorable total solar eclipse that captivated many. It's a place that promises extensive open property and a flexible approach to group sizes, catering to those who desire a less conventional and more personalized camping adventure in the heart of rural Arkansas.

The essence of Solar Eclipse Camping seems to revolve around providing ample space and freedom for groups. This approach appeals to Arkansans planning gatherings, family reunions, or specialized outdoor events where the rigid structure of typical campgrounds might be limiting. The property owners, particularly "Cowboy," as mentioned in reviews, aim to offer a more accommodating and less restrictive environment, allowing visitors to utilize the extensive grounds for their camping needs. This flexibility is a significant draw for those seeking a bespoke outdoor experience, emphasizing space and autonomy.

However, as with any emerging or event-specific venue, it's crucial for prospective visitors to engage in clear and consistent communication regarding booking terms and expectations. While the property's potential for hosting large groups with ample space is evident, experiences can vary, and clarity on policies is paramount. For locals who understand the nature of private land rentals for specific events and prioritize expansive, unconstrained camping, Solar Eclipse Camping in Gillham presents a compelling, albeit unique, option for their next Arkansas outdoor gathering.

Solar Eclipse Camping is located on Rough Rd, Gillham, AR 71841, USA. This places the property in the rural and naturally rich landscape of Sevier County, in the southwestern region of Arkansas. Gillham itself is a small town, primarily known for Gillham Lake and its surrounding outdoor recreational opportunities, offering a tranquil escape from more populated areas.

For Arkansans traveling from major cities within the state, accessing Gillham involves a scenic drive through the state's diverse landscapes. From Little Rock, the journey typically takes around 2.5 to 3 hours, generally involving routes such as I-30 W and then connecting to US-70 W or other state highways leading towards De Queen and then Gillham. From Texarkana, the drive is considerably shorter, often around 45 minutes to an hour, by taking US-71 N towards De Queen and then following local signs for Gillham. From Fort Smith, visitors can expect a drive of approximately 2 hours, generally via US-71 S.

The address "Rough Rd" itself hints at the nature of the location – a rural, potentially unpaved or less-maintained road. This suggests that while accessible, visitors should be prepared for typical rural road conditions, which might include gravel or uneven surfaces. It emphasizes the property's secluded and natural setting, away from urban development. Due to its private and potentially event-driven nature, specific directions beyond the general address might be best obtained directly from the property owner. This remote yet reachable location makes Solar Eclipse Camping an appealing option for locals who value privacy, open space, and a true immersion in Arkansas's natural environment for their specific camping needs.
