Love the sand sites! My hubby dislikes them due to the annoyance of getting the trailers out to the spots, but once you are out there and away from the cramped campgrounds, it's quite nice... most of the spots are well spaced out and they can accommodate more people than the campground sites do. They are great for groups, but make sure you know exactly where you are going beforehand. Some of the spots can be difficult to find if you don't know what you are looking for. Each site is marked with a small marker usually up by some grass or bushes at the edge of the sand. Also, expect people to drive through or quite close to your camp. Especially in the ones that are more out in the open. I think of it as camping in the middle of the playground 😂. There are no bathrooms in the sand and make sure you remember to pack everything out, there are dumpsters in the campgrounds and staging areas on the way out. Try to Leave it cleaner than it was when you got there. We are always picking up previous persons trash that gets lost in the sand, it happens!! Everything gets buried so easily in the sand Lol - Jennay

Siltcoos Sand Camping Access Introduce

For Oregonians seeking an unparalleled camping experience that truly embraces the adventurous spirit of the state, Siltcoos Sand Camping Access near Westlake offers a unique opportunity unlike any traditional campground. Imagine setting up your camp directly on the expansive, undulating sand dunes of the Oregon coast, with vast open spaces and breathtaking scenery surrounding you. This isn't your typical crowded RV park; Siltcoos Sand Camping is designed for those who desire more freedom, more space, and a direct connection to the spectacular Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

This distinct camping style, often referred to as "sand camping," provides a more primitive and secluded experience. While it requires a bit more preparation and an understanding of the environment, the rewards are immense. You'll find yourself amidst stunning natural scenarios, from towering dunes to coastal forests, with ample room for group gatherings or quiet solitude. It's a favorite among off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts, but also appeals to anyone looking to escape the confines of traditional campsites and immerse themselves in a truly wild setting. The unique appeal lies in the ability to drive your rig directly to your chosen site, offering a level of convenience for those with the right equipment, while simultaneously providing a sense of being far removed from the hustle and bustle.

However, it's important to note that sand camping comes with its own set of considerations. The sandy terrain can be challenging for some vehicles, and navigating to specific sites requires some prior knowledge or careful planning. Yet, for those prepared, Siltcoos Sand Camping promises an unforgettable adventure, a true "playground" in the wilderness, where every sunrise brings a new perspective on Oregon's magnificent coastal landscape.

Location and Accessibility

Siltcoos Sand Camping Access is conveniently located in Westlake, Oregon, placing it directly within the heart of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. This prime location offers immediate access to the vast stretches of sand dunes that define this iconic part of the Oregon coast. To reach the sand camping areas, visitors typically access them via designated routes that lead off of established roads. The exact entry points are usually well-marked within the broader Siltcoos recreation area.

It's crucial for visitors to understand that access to many of the sand camping sites requires a vehicle capable of navigating sandy terrain, such as a 4x4 or an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV). While there are staging areas and paved sections leading to the general vicinity, getting to the more secluded "sand sites" means driving directly onto the dunes. This unique aspect means that while it's highly accessible for those with the right vehicle, it's not a place where you can simply pull up in a standard sedan.

The beauty of its location also lies in its proximity to Siltcoos Lake, one of Oregon's largest coastal lakes, offering additional recreational opportunities like fishing, boating, and kayaking. Its position between Florence and Reedsport on US-101 makes it a well-known landmark for anyone traveling the central Oregon coast, providing a clear pathway for those seeking this specialized camping experience.
