When I called they said 15$ per person, and there was some power, and to check in at the bar. The bar tender Casey was very friendly and the crowd, When we got there we were told 20per person, by a man, I said we were quoted 15$ by the lady that answered, he said she was "old" and was wrong. We did only pay the $15, next time...they should pay us. The out house is unusable. No plug ins. If I were giving Casey a review--5 stars . - Becky Schuster-Lohrey

Shorewood Campgrounds Introduce

For Minnesota locals seeking a uniquely rustic and character-filled camping experience right on Detroit Lake, Shorewood Campgrounds offers a distinct alternative to traditional RV parks. Associated with the lively Shorewood Pub, this campground provides a basic yet incredibly convenient base for enjoying the vast recreational opportunities of Detroit Lakes and its surroundings. If you appreciate a no-frills approach to the outdoors, a friendly local atmosphere, and incredibly easy access to lakeside fun and good food, Shorewood Campgrounds is worth considering for your next adventure.

Minnesota, known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes," holds a special allure for its residents, who cherish its natural beauty and abundant recreational pursuits. Detroit Lakes, a vibrant resort community in west-central Minnesota, is a prime example of this appeal, drawing visitors with its famous sandy beach, excellent fishing, and diverse entertainment options. Shorewood Campgrounds, situated directly on the "sunny side of Detroit Lake," embodies a more casual, community-oriented approach to enjoying this popular area, focusing on accessibility and a relaxed environment.

Imagine pulling your small camper or setting up your tent on nine acres of "lush, primitive camping" ground, just steps from the water’s edge. Picture easy access to a local pub where you can grab a meal, enjoy a drink, and socialize with friendly locals and fellow campers. This integrated experience sets Shorewood Campgrounds apart. As one reviewer enthusiastically noted, "Great rates and a great campground. Owner is a very nice guy. Thanks and will stay here again." This highlights the welcoming atmosphere and perceived good value that many campers find here.

However, it’s important for prospective campers to have a full understanding of what to expect, as the experience at Shorewood Campgrounds leans towards a more rustic style. One detailed review provides valuable insights into this: "When I called they said $15 per person, and there was some power, and to check in at the bar. The bartender Casey was very friendly and the crowd. When we got there we were told $20 per person, by a man, I said we were quoted $15 by the lady that answered, he said she was 'old' and was wrong. We did only pay the $15, next time...they should pay us. The outhouse is unusable. No plug-ins. If I were giving Casey a review--5 stars." This review indicates that while the staff, like bartender Casey, can be "very friendly," there might be inconsistencies in pricing and that amenities can be quite basic. The mention of "no plug-ins" and an "unusable outhouse" suggests that campers should prepare for a very minimal camping experience, likely without full hookups for RVs, and with very basic restroom facilities. It appears the camping is truly "primitive," aligning with the description of "nine acres of lush, primitive camping."

Despite these potential limitations in traditional campground amenities, Shorewood Campgrounds offers a unique set of advantages. Its direct association with Shorewood Pub means campers have immediate access to a "small restaurant with a big delicious menu" and a hub of "year-round activities." The pub is known for league sports (softball, pool, darts, volleyball), Thursday night karaoke, and special events like Super Bowl parties and car giveaways. This makes it an ideal spot for those who enjoy a lively social scene along with their outdoor relaxation. You can even arrive by snowmobile or boat, indicating its accessibility for various types of recreational enthusiasts throughout the year.

The location on Detroit Lake is another major draw. Being "right on the waters edge" allows for easy access to fishing, boating, and other lake activities. While specific details about boat launches or docks directly at the campground are not explicitly stated in the reviews, the overall emphasis on lakeside activities at Shorewood Pub suggests that water access is a key part of the experience. This positions it perfectly for local anglers, boaters, and those who simply want to be near the water without the fuss of larger, more structured resorts.

For those seeking a budget-friendly option, the "great rates" mentioned in a positive review suggest that Shorewood Campgrounds offers an affordable way to stay in the popular Detroit Lakes area. While there was a pricing discrepancy in one instance, the final payment honored the lower quote, indicating a willingness to accommodate. This affordability can be a significant factor for locals looking to enjoy frequent trips or longer stays without breaking the bank.

It's clear that Shorewood Campgrounds is not your typical, amenity-heavy RV park, but rather a charmingly rustic spot for those who prioritize a good location, a friendly local atmosphere, and direct access to a pub with a full menu and entertainment. It caters to a specific type of camper who is self-sufficient and values a casual, community-oriented outdoor experience. For adventurous locals who prefer a laid-back environment over extensive facilities, Shorewood Campgrounds offers a unique and memorable stay in Detroit Lakes.
