Shinny Creek Backcountry Campground Reviews
A near-glamping experience for a backcountry camp site. Nice creek side sites with fire rings, picnic tables, a food box, and trash cans. Site 4 is the most secluded but there were a number of potential widow makers that made me hesitant to hammock camp there. Sites 1 and 2 didn’t have great tree spacing as well as dead trees but would be doable. Site 3 was perfect. Beautiful spot. A little more foot traffic than you might expect since it’s so close to the parking area.
May 17 · Alex HowardGreat little area.I took my young girls backpacking and camped here. Great price at $12 a day and was easy to get to. The 1.5-mile hike was uphill but scenic and didn't break the little ones (8 and 10).The campsite had a nice ring, was well kept and the outhouse was not too bad.We were surprised by the kiln-dried wood left at the site. Not sure if that is to be expected, but it was appreciated. Close proximity to the creek. Like Rob, the other reviewer mentioned, site #4 is the most private and desirable. That said, we had site #1, and it was still great.I'll also mention we came on a Sunday. It was bustling, but the rangers let us pass the line of cars waiting to get in as we were camping and even had reserved spaces for us to park it. Once we hiked in a bit, the crowds could not be seen or heard, and once at the campsite, we rarely saw anyone else.
April 12 · Joshua Crigger4 sites all along the river. Site #1 is the least private (near the entrance) with #4 being the most private. Easy to get to with one part (where you veer to the right to start on the High Shoals Falls Loop) with rock stairs going uphill - hike suitable for most families and children.
October 03 · Rob LelewskiWent camping here on a trip and it is an awesome campsite. Very close to a creek for water and has an outhouse and trash with a bear box for food.
