For many of us who live in Utah, the call of the mountains is constant, especially for those of us who love to explore on four wheels. Finding the perfect spot that combines a peaceful camping experience with access to thrilling off-road trails can be a challenge. Shingle Creek ATV Campground, nestled within the stunning Wasatch Cache National Forest, provides just that. This campground is a popular choice for locals who want to park their rigs, set up camp, and have an adventure right at their fingertips. It's a place where the sound of nature is often accompanied by the rumble of an engine, all in a welcoming and well-maintained environment.
Shingle Creek's reputation as a top-tier camping spot for ATV and UTV riders is well-earned. Its location is a significant draw, situated conveniently close to some of the best trail systems in the area, including the popular Taylor Fork ATV trails. This proximity means you can leave your campsite and be on a trail in a matter of minutes, maximizing your time for fun and exploration. The campground itself offers a tranquil base camp, with well-spaced sites that provide a sense of privacy and seclusion even when the place is full. This balance between quiet relaxation and easy access to high-octane recreation is what makes it a local favorite and a must-visit for any off-roading enthusiast.
One of the most praised aspects of Shingle Creek ATV Campground is the cleanliness of its facilities. For many campers, a clean restroom is a top priority, and according to reviews, the on-site bathrooms are surprisingly well-kept. This attention to hygiene and detail from the camp host contributes significantly to a positive and comfortable camping experience. It shows that even in a rustic, first-come, first-served environment, a high standard of care is maintained, which is a huge plus for families and anyone who appreciates a bit of comfort while roughing it. This commitment to cleanliness helps to set the campground apart and makes it a more inviting destination for all types of visitors.
As a first-come, first-served campground, Shingle Creek requires a bit of spontaneity and preparation. It's not a place you can book weeks in advance, but for those who are flexible and willing to take a chance, the reward is a fantastic campsite in a prime location. This system means that it's important to have cash on hand to claim your spot upon arrival. The friendly camp hosts are often there to assist and ensure a smooth check-in process. This laid-back approach to reservations adds to the overall relaxed atmosphere of the campground, where the focus is on enjoying the moment and the beautiful surroundings rather than a rigid schedule. It's a testament to the adventurous spirit of Utah's camping community.
The campground’s design is a testament to its purpose. The sites, like the well-regarded spot 8, offer plenty of room for both your camp setup and your vehicles, including larger rigs like UTVs. This ample space is crucial for campers with lots of gear and equipment. The forested setting provides natural shade and a feeling of being immersed in the woods, which is exactly what many people look for in a camping trip. The close proximity to the trails means you can easily spend your days exploring the vast network of paths that wind through the national forest. Whether you’re looking for a challenging ride or a scenic cruise, the options are plentiful right from your doorstep.
While the campground is a haven for off-roaders, it’s also a great spot for families. The general atmosphere is relaxed, and the spacious sites are good for kids who need room to run around and play. The fact that dogs are allowed is another big plus, making it possible to bring the whole family, including your furry friends. The presence of a welcoming camp host who is available for a friendly chat adds a personal touch that makes you feel at home. It’s a place that caters to both the high-energy excitement of motorized recreation and the simple, quiet pleasures of a family camping trip. Shingle Creek manages to perfectly blend these two experiences into one fantastic destination.
The beauty of this campground extends beyond its recreational features. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1One of the best places we have camped. The campground is fcfs, so we lucked out on being able to find an open spot. Make sure to bring cash to claim your spot. I'm usually super weird about campground bathrooms because they're usually pretty gross but these bathrooms were surprisingly clean. The camp host was extremely friendly and stopped by for a quick friendly chat then was on his way. We stayed in spot 8 which had PLENTY of room for our camp and UTV trails were about a 10 minute drive away. Will definitely be back.
July 03 · AngilI thinks this is crap i pay taxes and fees to camp in the canyon and when i come up on the deer or elk hunt all the gates are closed. About 10 years ago they where open i don't see the problem with keeping them open tell after the hunts it is just one month. If the management group that you have running them are closing them get rid of them.
October 01 · Jeff WelchNice little campground with clean bathrooms. I would give it a 5-star if it wasn’t so close to the main road.
August 10 · Tyler RawleLast weekend of June and the water wasn't working. As others have reported it was pretty close to the road so you heard cars all day long - not the best when you are trying to get away. We had a great spot within the camp though - spot 20. It felt secluded from everyone else.
July 01 · Weston ClarkThis is a great place to make your base camp if you like hiking or riding ATVs. There are two different ATV trail entrances nearby to get you up onto the Cedar Hollow Loop, which is a really awesome place to ride. This whole area is very beautiful all year round!
