Shawn's Hideaway stands out with its rich history and dedication to maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere. Originally envisioned by Edward "Whitey" Rodgers and expanded significantly by George and Geraldine "Gerry" Mumford, the park has grown to include 150 mobile home lots and 120 seasonal camper lots. The current generation continues this legacy, committed to enhancing the park while preserving its charm. Imagine having a dedicated spot in Southern Delaware where you can return season after season, surrounded by friendly faces and enjoying direct access to water-based activities. If you're a Delawarean looking for more than just a temporary camping spot, but rather a long-term connection to a coastal community, Shawn's Hideaway could very well be your perfect sanctuary.
Shawn's Hideaway is conveniently located at 24373 Blue Blvd, Millsboro, DE 19966, USA. This address places it within Southern Delaware, a region renowned for its beautiful beaches, waterways, and charming small towns. For Delaware residents, accessing Shawn's Hideaway is straightforward, with well-maintained routes leading directly to this tranquil retreat.
The campground's location offers a desirable balance of peaceful seclusion and proximity to vibrant coastal attractions. It's situated near the Delaware Bay, providing residents and seasonal campers with direct or very easy access to water activities like fishing, boating, and crabbing. While offering a "hideaway" feel, it remains within a reasonable driving distance of Delaware's popular beach resorts such as Bethany Beach, Rehoboth Beach, and Dewey Beach. This means you can enjoy the serenity of the hideaway while still having convenient access to boardwalks, tax-free outlet shopping, diverse dining, and a plethora of entertainment options. The surrounding area also boasts plenty of room for walking, ensuring that residents and guests can easily explore their immediate surroundings. Its strategic position makes it an excellent choice for Delaware locals looking for an established coastal community with easy access to all the amenities the region has to offer.
Seasonal Camper Lots:
Shawn's Hideaway offers 120 seasonal camper lots, providing dedicated spaces for RVs and campers for an extended period, typically the full camping season. This is a primary focus of the campground, as indicated by their website stating they do not do weekend/weekly/monthly rentals.
Mobile Home Lots:
The community also features 150 mobile home lots, creating a mixed-use residential and recreational environment.
Marina Services:
The property includes a marina, offering boat slips and direct access to the nearby waterways (likely the Indian River or connecting to the Delaware Bay), suitable for residents who wish to keep their boats on-site.
Campground Store (Historical/Potential):
Historically, the park included a campground store. While current operational status isn't explicitly detailed, such a feature would likely be available for basic necessities.
Utilities at Lots:
Seasonal and mobile home lots typically come with essential hookups such as water, sewer, and electric, though specific details may require direct inquiry.
Park Rules and Regulations:
Detailed rules and regulations, including those for building permissions (additions, sheds, decks) and golf cart agreements, are available, indicating a structured and well-managed community.
Guest Fees:
A system for guest fees is in place, as indicated by available resources, suggesting that visitors to seasonal campers or mobile home residents are welcome under park guidelines.
Established Family-Owned History:
A significant highlight is the campground's rich history as a third-generation family-owned business since 1962. This deep-rooted heritage contributes to its unique character and commitment to community, often fostering a strong sense of belonging among residents.
Focus on Seasonal and Long-Term Stays:
Unlike transient campgrounds, Shawn's Hideaway specializes in seasonal camper lots and mobile home residences. This creates a stable, friendly community where neighbors get to know each other, enhancing the "hideaway" feel and sense of home.
Marina Access:
The on-site marina provides convenient water access for boating and fishing enthusiasts, a major draw for those looking to explore the Delaware Bay and its tributaries.
Character and Charm:
As noted in customer reviews, the campground possesses "lots of character," suggesting a unique, non-commercialized atmosphere that appeals to those looking for a more authentic and less "resort-like" experience.
Well-Maintained Environment:
While detailed reviews on upkeep are limited, the longevity and consistent positive sentiment (e.g., "A true hidden gem") imply a well-maintained property that fosters a pleasant living and recreational environment.
Community Feel:
The presence of both seasonal campers and mobile home residents fosters a strong community feel, where friendly interactions and mutual helpfulness are likely common, as suggested by review of a "nice little community full of both seasonal and year-round residents."
Plenty of Walking Areas:
The description of the location suggests ample space for walking, allowing residents to enjoy strolls within the park's confines.
Based on the provided information, Shawn's Hideaway primarily caters to seasonal and long-term residents, explicitly stating: "We do NOT do weekend/weekly/monthly rentals." This means that the concept of typical daily or weekly camping promotions, like discounts for short stays or seasonal sales seen at transient campgrounds, is generally not applicable here.
Instead, the "offer" is the opportunity to secure a seasonal camper lot or mobile home lot within an established, family-owned community. Given that the website also states "Currently Full for 2024 Season," the main "promotion" is securing a spot on their waiting list for future availability.
Prospective seasonal campers or mobile home buyers might inquire about:
Seasonal Lot Fees:
The specific cost of securing a seasonal lot for the entire camping season. This would be the primary "price" point for campers.
Inclusion of Utilities:
Whether utilities (water, sewer, electric) are included in the seasonal fee or if they are metered and charged separately.
Resale Market:
For mobile homes within the park, any existing units for sale might be considered a form of "offer" to become a long-term resident.
The value proposition here is the long-term access to a stable, community-oriented recreational property near the Delaware coast, rather than short-term discounts. To learn about availability and pricing for seasonal lots, joining their waitlist or directly contacting the management is the only way.

Jun 03, 2025 · Eddie OttingerI have gone to Shawn's hideaway to do tree work for many years. 15 yrs ago I went there to climb their tall pines and found a nice little community full of both seasonal and year round residents. Most everyone I came across was very friendly and helpful. They have a nice little marina on the bay and plenty of room to fish . I've never been the type for camper living but now that I'm getting older it had found a certain appeal and if I do decide to ever buy a camper or trailer Shawn's would be the first place I would try to get a spot.
Apr 23, 2022 · Hi TravelerDon't bother calling them for short term stays, they only cater to seasonals. The guy was rude & obnoxious, telling me to go to MD where they like weekenders & it's only 10 miles away he said. I was purposely avoiding that area due to the fact that I was coming to the area to visit a friend who lives there & that 10 Mile drive takes 45-60 minutes or longer in the shore traffic. This guy doesn't deserve the business.
Aug 21, 2019 · Kathi OakesIn-laws have a camper down here in the campground. The kids love coming down to hang out and spend time with Nanny and Pappy.. Been coming down here yearly since I met my wife in 2000. Definitely a nice campground..
