The Seymour Johnson AFB Campground is strategically located on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. You’ll find it at the address associated with the base's Education Center and Library, specifically 1224 Kenyon Rd, Franklin Furnace, OH 45629, USA (Note: The address provided for Seymour Johnson AFB Campground in the prompt appears to be incorrect and points to an Ohio location. Based on public data for Seymour Johnson AFB, the physical location for the campground is within the base itself, typically managed by Outdoor Recreation. For accurate GPS, users should search for "Seymour Johnson AFB FamCamp" or the Outdoor Recreation facility directly on base, which is often cited as 1385 S. Andrews St, Goldsboro, NC 27531, or nearby). This placement offers unique advantages, primarily its security and access to on-base facilities.
Accessing the campground requires entry onto Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. For eligible users, this means passing through a security gate. Reviewers mention that while "getting to the campground is easy," it's crucial to be aware of the specific gate for access, especially "After hours arrival - All transit will take place through the Berkeley gate. We ask that personnel call the ECC, 722-1212, giving us a minimum of 30 minutes notice they are going to be arriving to Berkeley Gate." Additionally, first-time visitors should be aware that "you must use the back gate for security purposes" during certain hours, and a particular note warns, "Don't arrive after dark. It's tough to find! And the people at the gate have no idea where the RV camp is!" This suggests that while accessible, a little pre-planning regarding gate access and arrival times is highly recommended.
Once on base, the campground is often described as "tucked far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the base to ensure quiet relaxation, but close enough that several key support facilities and parks are within easy walking distance." This balance offers a peaceful camping experience while still having the convenience of nearby base amenities. Goldsboro, North Carolina, itself is described as "incredibly military-friendly," with various off-base shopping, restaurants, and attractions.
The Seymour Johnson AFB Campground (Famcamp) prides itself on offering a robust set of services and amenities designed to make stays comfortable and convenient for eligible patrons. As a military Famcamp, it understands the specific needs of its users. Based on public information and guest reviews, you can typically expect the following:
- Full Hookup RV Sites: A major draw for many campers, the Famcamp offers "full hookups" at its RV sites. This includes water, electricity (often 30/20/15 Amp, with some sites possibly 50 Amp), and sewer connections. Reviewers confirm that "All the hookups worked as advertised and without issue," which is crucial for a hassle-free stay. There are "24 concrete parking pads" and some sites are "nice new very big concrete pad."
- Laundry Facilities: An on-site "laundry room" is available, providing a convenient way to refresh clothes during your stay, especially useful for longer visits or those on PCS moves.
- Restroom and Shower Facilities: The campground features a "bath house" with "ladies and a men's bathroom." Reviewers note that these facilities are "very clean," and some even mention a "space heater in the bathroom," adding a touch of comfort. Showers are also available.
- Dump Station: For RVs that don't have full hookups or for those needing to dump tanks before departure, a "dump station" is provided. One reviewer did note a "weird flange" on the sewer hookup at one site that "prevented a complete seal," suggesting some sites may require a weight or rock for a secure connection.
- Wi-Fi Access: The campground typically offers "excellent free Internet." However, it's worth noting a distinction: "WiFi for the short term area works perfectly; the passwords for connecting are posted near the sites. WiFi for the long term area only works in the inner circle." This suggests varying Wi-Fi performance based on site location, though overall connectivity is a clear service.
- Self Check-In System: For convenience, the campground utilizes a "self check-in system using a map with our site number," allowing for flexible arrival times, though pre-planning for gate access is important.
- Grassy Overflow Area: For additional flexibility, especially for tent campers or when main sites are full, a "grassy overflow area" is available for dry camping at a lower cost.
- Pet-Friendly Policy: The campground is "pet friendly," allowing eligible patrons to bring their beloved animals. Reviewers mention "Dogs allowed. You can walk them in the woods."
- Access to Base Amenities: A significant advantage is the proximity and access to other base facilities, including the "Exchange and Commissary" (often "within walking distance"), "gas station," "Fitness Center," "Olympic pool and Splash Pad," "archery range," "bowling alley," "Sabre Cinema," and more. This extends the range of activities and conveniences available to campers.
The Seymour Johnson AFB Campground offers a distinct set of features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for eligible North Carolina residents, particularly those within the military community. It blends the tranquility of a natural setting with the conveniences of a military installation.
- Well-Maintained Grounds and Facilities: Repeatedly praised in reviews, guests consistently find the "camp to be well maintained." The facilities, including restrooms and laundry, are described as "well kept and modern." This commitment to upkeep contributes significantly to a positive camping experience.
- Shaded Sites: Many sites, such as Site 14 mentioned by a reviewer, are "well shaded," which can be a significant benefit during North Carolina's warmer months. This natural tree cover provides comfort and a pleasant ambiance, although it's a factor to consider for those relying on solar power or satellite TV.
- Spacious Sites: Campers appreciate the generous size of the sites. One reviewer noted "enough room for our 30’ travel trailer and our Ram 1500 tow vehicle," indicating ample space for RVs and accompanying vehicles. "The areas around the campsites are big too," providing a comfortable outdoor living area.
- Paved Bike Trails: A notable recreational feature is the presence of "nice paved bike trails throughout the base." This offers an excellent opportunity for cycling, walking, running, or skating in a secure environment, allowing campers to stay active and explore the base's natural areas.
- Quiet and Dark Environment: Despite being on an active Air Force Base, the campground is described as "very quiet and shaded" and "nice and dark" at night, indicating it's situated far enough from operational areas to provide a peaceful retreat for relaxation and stargazing.
- Affordable Cost: A significant highlight, especially for military families, is the "very inexpensive ($15/night for full hookups!)" nightly rate. This makes it a highly economical option for camping, offering exceptional value. Long-term sites are slightly higher at $26/night.
- Proximity to Base Amenities: The ability to walk to or easily access the "Exchange and Commissary," gas station, fitness center, and various other recreational facilities on base adds immense convenience and extends the range of activities available beyond just camping. This is a major perk not found at typical civilian campgrounds.
- Friendly and Helpful Staff: Reviewers consistently commend the "very nice" and "friendly and accommodating" staff. This positive interaction enhances the overall experience, with staff members noted for being "very helpful and informative" and even calling to "check in and make sure everything was working as expected."
As a military Famcamp, the Seymour Johnson AFB Campground operates within a specific framework that differs from commercial campgrounds regarding promotions. However, the inherent structure of military campgrounds often provides significant value and a form of "special offer" through their affordable rates and exclusive access for eligible patrons.
- Inherent Low Cost: The most consistent "special offer" is the highly competitive daily rate itself. Reviewers highlight "Very inexpensive ($15/night for full hookups!)." This pricing is significantly lower than many civilian campgrounds offering comparable amenities, making it a continuous benefit for eligible users. Long-term stays (30-120 nights) are $26/night, while short-term (2-week max) are $25/night, still representing excellent value.
- Eligibility-Based Access: Access to the Seymour Johnson AFB Campground is restricted to authorized users, which includes Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists, Retired Military, 0-100% DAV, Purple Heart Recipients, Former POW, Veteran Caregivers, and DoD Civilians. This exclusivity is a benefit in itself, ensuring a community-oriented and secure environment.
- Access to Discounted Base Services: While not a direct camping discount, staying at the Famcamp grants access to the base's Information, Tickets & Travel (ITT) office. This office offers "a variety of discounted tickets and information" to attractions throughout North Carolina and beyond, including major theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios. This can lead to substantial savings on other vacation activities.
- Year-Round Operation: The campground is "Open year-round," providing flexibility for camping trips regardless of the season. While not a promotion, it offers continuous availability that allows for planning around personal schedules and taking advantage of off-peak travel times.
- First-Come, First-Served Sites (with Reservations Available): While some sites may be first-come, first-served, reviews also mention the ability to make reservations, offering flexibility for planned visits. For short-term stays, it's often easier to find openings by calling ahead.
For the most accurate and current information on eligibility, rates, and availability, or to inquire about any specific programs, the best course of action is to contact the Seymour Johnson AFB Outdoor Recreation directly or visit their official webpage.

Seymour Johnson AFB Campground Reviews
My wife and I stayed at the Seymour Johnson AFB Famcamp during the 4th of July weekend. We found the camp to be well maintained. We stayed on site 14 which had enough room for our 30’ travel trailer and our Ram 1500 tow vehicle. All the hookups worked as advertised and without issue. The sites are well shaded which we enjoyed but if you have to rely on solar or satellite, this camp may not work for you. Overall, our experience was a positive one and we are likely to visit again as we have family in the area.
Jul 05, 2023 · Ralph FreemanArrived before noon to self check-in system using a map with our site number. The grass and weeds were over 2 feet tall. No campfires allowed. For the low cost, it was sufficient. Nice paved bike trails throughout the base.
Apr 28, 2025 · Dee MaierLove this place! Third time this year. Very nice people. Campground beautiful. Staying in pull thru full hookup for $25/night. Can't beat it!
May 28, 2025 · K mccormickNice camp ground. The bathroom and laundry are a little rough.
May 26, 2025 · Brandon StrangWanted to stay at this Fam Camp to visit my son before continuing south. We were very concerned about the stay process because they did not take reservations. Well they do now!!!!! Four days before leaving Pennsylvania to head south, I looked on their website and found a reservation request form. I completed the form and the next business day, the Rec Center called me to confirm my stay. We are staying in site 20 with our fifth wheel and the site is a long concrete pad with full hookups. The site is woodsy. The morning Reveille makes me proud to be an American. This is a great service that AFB's provide!!!!
