Scoutshire Woods Introduce
Nestled in the serene, wooded landscape of Citronelle, Alabama, Scoutshire Woods represents more than just a campground; it’s a historic and often-utilized camp facility that has played host to numerous youth organizations and outdoor events over the years. For Alabamians seeking a dedicated space for group outings, retreats, or a more traditional camp experience away from the bustling urban centers, Scoutshire Woods offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and foster camaraderie. While primarily recognized for its affiliation with scouting organizations, its potential extends to a broader range of local groups and individuals looking for a rustic yet accommodating outdoor venue.
The essence of Scoutshire Woods lies in its rich history and its purpose-built design for group activities. Praised by organizations like the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) for its beauty and historical significance, it provides a backdrop for learning, adventure, and community building. Unlike a typical public campground, Scoutshire Woods often operates with a focus on organized events, offering facilities that cater to larger groups and structured programs. This emphasis on group utility makes it an invaluable local resource for schools, youth groups, corporate retreats, and other organizations looking for a dedicated outdoor setting.
However, as with any natural setting, conditions can vary, and it’s important for prospective visitors to understand the type of experience offered. While its primary appeal is its natural, rustic environment, it's a place that thrives on the spirit of outdoor adventure and self-reliance, consistent with its scouting heritage. For locals in Alabama, particularly those involved with youth programs or looking to organize a distinct group outdoor event, Scoutshire Woods presents a compelling option that blends historical significance with the immersive beauty of Alabama’s natural landscape.
Scoutshire Woods is located at 6051 Scoutshire Camp Rd, Citronelle, AL 36522, USA. This address places it in the rural, northern part of Mobile County, Alabama. While it offers a sense of seclusion and natural immersion, it remains reasonably accessible for residents across the greater Mobile metropolitan area and other parts of Southwest Alabama.
For Alabamians traveling from Mobile, Citronelle is typically a drive of approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your starting point and traffic. The most common route would involve taking US-45 North directly into Citronelle. From there, local roads would lead you to Scoutshire Camp Road. For those coming from further afield, such as Baldwin County or areas closer to the coast, access would generally involve connecting to I-65 North or US-45 North. For instance, from Gulf Shores, you would take AL-59 N to I-10 W, then connect to US-45 N. From cities like Montgomery or Birmingham, visitors would typically take I-65 South towards Mobile, then transition to US-45 North as they approach the Mobile area.
The nature of the location, being on "Scoutshire Camp Rd," suggests that while it's accessible via paved roads, the final approach may be on a less-traveled or unpaved road, characteristic of a camp situated in a wooded area. This contributes to its secluded feel, allowing visitors to truly disconnect. While public transportation options directly to the camp are likely non-existent due to its rural setting, personal vehicles are the standard mode of transport. The drive itself offers a transition from more developed areas into the tranquil, forested environment that defines Scoutshire Woods, making the journey part of the overall escape for locals.

Thanks to the Girl Scouts for letting the BSA use this beautiful, historic camp for our 2023 winter camp.
Dec 30, 2023 · David JarrellWAY to many weeds and over growth to fish!! It's great if all you want to do is sit in or around your camper! Kids can't put a tent next to parents RV, they would have to be across the lake where anyone can come in!! Will not go back unless they change their rules and clean up the lake!! Plus the trash!!
