camping has a lot to do with your neighbor. The sites in FF are a bit close especially if your neighbor chooses to turn their very loud generator on every morning like clockwork at 7am. Campers come to the mountains to get away from people and noise, be a responsible camper. Leave your loud generator home , or at least wait for other campers to enjoy a quiet morning to drink coffee. come to the mountains for quiet and solitude. Leave the noise home, pleaseThis is by far a very clean campground, but when you have to leave early because of the noise, it doesnt matter. Dont pay to far in advance, there are no refunds. if you dont like generators this isn't the cg for you. They go all day especially when it is warm and they want to run ac. There are a few forest rds open for free camping, fr 117 and a county rd just past Greer. - ellen chevalier

What is worth choosing

Rolfe C. Hoyer Campground is worth choosing for those who want a blend of comfort and natural beauty in a cool, mountain setting. The customer reviews provide valuable, real-world insights that help visitors set realistic expectations. While the campground is clean and has lovely, large sites, issues such as noise from generators and occasional problems with facilities can arise. One reviewer notes, "If you don't like generators this isn't the cg for you. They go all day especially when it is warm and they want to run ac." This is a crucial piece of information for campers who prioritize quiet.

The lack of communication about issues like broken showers and closed trails, as mentioned in another review, is also something to be aware of. It highlights the importance of checking with the campground hosts or the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests office for the most up-to-date information before you go. This proactive approach can prevent frustration and ensure a better experience, especially if hiking is the main purpose of your visit. The lack of a refund policy also makes this more important.

Despite these potential issues, the campground’s positive attributes are significant. The sites are large, clean, and provide a good amount of space. The proximity to Greer Lakes and the scenic views are undeniable highlights. The presence of amenities like running water, restrooms, and RV hookups makes it a far more comfortable option than many primitive sites. For Arizona residents who value these conveniences and are looking for a cool, family-friendly spot with lots of hiking and fishing opportunities, Rolfe C. Hoyer Campground is a very strong contender. Its beautiful location and thoughtful amenities, when combined with proper preparation, make for a highly rewarding and relaxing trip.
