Riverway Campground Reviews
Love Riverway campground at William O'Brien State Park! Spent 4 nights there in June, 2020. Absolutely Beautiful! We were very close to the St Croix river and I often strolled over there. Some very nice hiking trails with beautiful scenery. The trails we went on were well maintained. I was surprised at how many pine trees there were ...it felt like we were farther North. I love the smell of pine trees!Nice swimming there. Looks like a nice beach but we swam along the river.Park is not far from many nice sight seeing places like Stillwater and Taylor's Falls. We drove to Interstate State Park to hike and it was stunning! Lots of fun shops to browse through nearby as well. Found some nice areas along the roads as well...historical markets and waysides. The wood bins at the campground did empty very fast ...especially during the week. On the weekend they filled it several times a day but only once a day on the weekdays as far as we could tell. Many people looking for wood and there was none so keep that in mind and prepare. Also,, if cell phone service is important to you be aware it's not very good in the park. Even sending texts didn't always go through. We like to hear how our cats are doing with the petsitter and sometimes we couldn't get through. It was ok though! It is a popular camping and recreation area so it's not always as quiet or isolated as I like, but the campsites feel pretty private and are very nice and you can be more alone or with very few people around when hiking. All in all would recommend! Very nice campground and park.

Oct 23, 2022 · Eric SimmonsThis camp ground at William O'Brien is a completely different experience than the Savanah site. 1st, I was shocked to discover the sites so close together, I could see what others were having for dinner and felt like I was a part of their group. This is not all together bad as fellow campers came over to my site to help as I struggled silently with my tent. I know they could hear the music from my cell phone. Yup, the sites were that close together. No privacy here. Still relatively quiet with many kids riding bikes and playing in the road. The sites are small! One tent and two camp chairs small. I saw a pup get attacked by another pup as an irresponsible owner tried to walk his dog off leash. In a split second the off leash dog entered the leashed dogs site and attacked. They were both big dogs. No distance to stop the first dog. My tiny dogs would have been killed instantly. Not good! Finally, it rained during my stay and my site turned into a mini lake. Not one area was without the huge puddle. For a family with small to teenaged kids, this could be a fun camp to have a weekend get away. The lake is close by with swimming and fishing. William O'Brien is an excellent park with lots of activities and is beautifully maintained. If you want peace, and seclusion, check the other grounds or visit during the week.
Jun 19, 2019 · Donita JacksonNice campground right off the river. The sites are shaded and semi secluded especially along the outer sites.
Jun 30, 2023 · Wyatt W. PenkeMy favorite state park. Going to be renovated starting December 2023. No playground. Restrooms and showers to be updated.Hope they update electric to include more sites and ( fingers crossed) add electric, restroom, and a screened gathering space to group site - like Lake Vermillion State Park. Hopefully, get a naturalist again. We celebrated Falloween last night. Been doing this for years.
