River Road Campground Reviews
This was my 3rd time staying here at this primitive camp site. That is the key word….. PRIMITIVE. It provides the bare minimum, the rest is up to you. Before you reserve here you need to realize you will need to bring everything you will need. This campground is meant to bring you close to nature and enjoy the real simple style of camping. If you need a full bathroom, shower, water hookups and electricity, then this campground is not for you. This is a diamond in the rough. It’s pretty well kept up, secluded, sites are at least to me, far enough apart and when I’ve been here there have been no people “living” here. Every camper I’ve met has been very nice and courteous. I always introduce myself to my “neighbors” and have enjoyed many conversations over a cup of coffee and fire. There is a wonderful hiking trail that is well marked. Some of it’s easy going, some is a little rough , but that makes it fun. There is a nice floating dock up at the beginning of the hiking trail where you can fish or just take in the view. There is also so much wildlife around. Every time I come I see something different. This last time, I came across a baby Pygmy rattle snake, some deers, owls at night and far in the distance, calls of coyotes. This is why I love these types of campgrounds. So in the end, you make this beautiful place out to be by what you expect and what you enjoy.
Nov 17, 2024 · Kevin Depeau2nd time here. It's a hidden gem . Not many campers also. One other group last time. Clean camp sites. And porta pottys are kept up to date.
Dec 07, 2024 · Joseph MAlaraHad a great time at this campground. I was a little skeptical based on the reviews previously, but we didn’t seem to have any issues with the squatters (if they were still there). We loved our chosen spot and luckily didn’t have anybody next to us, so it was perfect. We forgot to check out the lake so we’ll have to do that next time. We will definitely be back!
Feb 16, 2024 · Brittany CartwrightThe campground could be 5 stars but depending on which site you reserve and who else is camping during your stay you could have a 1 star experience. The state forest I usually stay at is just much more secluded and private compared to this one. There is a group of 4 with a couple dogs that appear to be living there. They wake up early to drop one member off at work so you'll hear the gate chain and them yelling at each other before the sun rises. After she gets back you'll hear lots of sounds.. none of them relaxing. She will be pacing around the campground screaming on the phone, the other two at the site will be listening to "music" at a louder than necessary volume, the dogs will be barking and she will randomly decide to holler at them, at some point the dog will get loose and she or the dog will come to your site, when he gets home it is guaranteed that they will again argue and threaten each other although even when she's not yelling at him she is still loud....need I say more? Thankfully we had the most secluded site but most of the other sites would have been intolerable as they have little to no privacy. It's hard to look back on the enjoyable parts of the trip because dealing with the full time group was just so painful. The mosquitos and ticks are something to be aware of. Thankfully we had spray and thermacell but we still battled the mosquitos and found several ticks on the dogs after hiking. We saw turkeys one morning and an otter down by the water. There is a nice spot to hangout down by the water.
Jan 22, 2021 · Ash SThis is dry camping which means no electricity and no water. Which is no problem we got a little inverter has 2 USB ports and 110/220 plug. Then just got a small lawn mower battery and works good. At least you can have some lights run small t.v. Cause it's Dark out in the forest and a little creepy so lots of lights lol. these sites are really close together but other than that no problems yet everyone's respectful and quiet by like 9 so I recommend it. Just remember it's the forest !!!!
