River Rest Resort is often described as a vibrant, family-oriented place where the beauty of the Yuba River takes center stage. While some recent feedback has highlighted concerns regarding additional fees and cabin conditions, a strong current of long-term loyalty and positive reviews speaks to its enduring appeal. Visitors consistently praise the friendly staff, well-maintained facilities, and, most importantly, the incredible access to the South Yuba River. This resort strives to offer a complete camping experience, blending rustic charm with key conveniences, making it a compelling option for those looking to create lasting memories by the water.
River Rest Resort is situated at 15274 Washington Rd, Washington, CA 95986, USA. This unique address places it within the "quirky little town of Washington, California," a historic gold rush era settlement nestled within the steep and rugged walls of the South Yuba River canyon. This location is a significant draw, offering a deep immersion into a picturesque natural environment far removed from city bustle.
Accessibility to River Rest Resort, while scenic, requires a specific approach. Reviews indicate that the road leading down to the resort on Washington Road involves a steep descent, dropping significantly in elevation within a few miles. This can be "nerve-racking" for some, particularly those with larger RVs, making it crucial for visitors to ensure their vehicles are in good condition (e.g., checking brakes and transmission temperatures). Despite the challenging descent, the journey is described as "worth it" by many, as it leads to a truly secluded and beautiful riverside setting. It's approximately 30 minutes from the historic Nevada City and about 40 minutes from Lake Tahoe, making it a well-positioned base for exploring broader Northern California attractions. The secluded nature also means limited to no cell service at the campground itself, encouraging a true digital detox for campers.

River Rest Resort Reviews
I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy !It is run by the greediest people I have ever experienced. The prices are high to begin with then they add additional fees like $15 registration fee , $15 early arrival (we arrived at 2pm but check in is at 3pm), after all taxes and fees my total was $107 for 1 night
Jul 06, 2025 · Chuck HazelwoodBest camping place I have ever loyally coming here for 30+ years! Staff are great the facilities such as shower and bathroom are great. They also have a store in case you need something you forgot from water shoes food/candy and more. Great family oriented place and they have two shorelines one for dogs and one without right in the river.
May 07, 2025 · Justin PorterDidn’t say at the resort but the restaurant there was AMAZING. Had the Bigfoot burger and my boyfriend hasn’t stopped talking about it for days. The banana milkshake was so good and i also got the reneesme lemonade. Lemonade in a blood bag that they have for Halloween. It was really cool and good. I would def go back!
Oct 26, 2024 · Alexis AyalaBeautiful spot on the yuba river, south fork. About 1/3 of the site are backed almost right up to the river! The water was very clear, not too cold, and there were even spots deep enough to jump off the cliffs on the other side. All sites have full RV hookups (sewer, water, power) which was very nice considering how remote the area is. No cell service, but that was nice too. The little town of Washington has a hotel with an excellent bar and restaurant if you dont feel like cooking. The bathrooms were nice, and there's even a volleyball court, horse shoe pit, and playground with a couple swings. We will be returning again, with float tubes this time! Highly recommend checking this spot out.
Aug 14, 2024 · alex wolfPro: Great place. Beautiful river. Full hookups.Cons: rules are not enforced. Two nights in a row rude people with no camping etiquette show up after 9pm and have side by side and vehicle headlights shining every which way while setting up their camp past 10pm. And you get nickel and dime for every little thing extra . Extra dog. Extra kid. Purchased firewood but then they said no fires and never got reimbursement.
