Riders Rest

302 Main St, Elk City, ID 83525, USA

4.0
A must stay for any motorcycle passing through Elk City. If you're riding the Idaho BDR, I highly recommend planning a stay. Clean showers, WiFi, firewood, and beautiful little camp sites with a sheltered picnic table.I roasted my clutch climbing Burnt Knob on Magruder, and limped my poor bike back to Elk City hoping to find a hotel room late on a Saturday night. Everything seemed closed but Rider's Rest had a fantastic self-check-in system that worked perfectly. In the morning, the owner came by and was super friendly and helpful. He went WAY beyond what I expected to help me get back on my way. - Jerrett Charlie Hutchings

Riders Rest Introduce

For those of us in Idaho who live for the open road, especially the winding, unpaved kind that leads to true adventure, finding a perfect home base after a long day of riding is paramount. Elk City, a wonderfully isolated town nestled deep in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, serves as a crucial stop for adventurers tackling routes like the legendary Magruder Corridor or the Idaho BDR (Backcountry Discovery Route). And right in the heart of this off-the-beaten-path haven is Riders Rest, a campground specifically designed with the needs of motorcyclists and other intrepid travelers in mind. It's more than just a place to sleep; it's a welcoming oasis built by fellow enthusiasts, for fellow enthusiasts.

Riders Rest has quickly gained a reputation among the Idaho riding community as a "must stay for any motorcycle passing through Elk City." Imagine rolling into town after hours on gravel roads, perhaps having "roasted your clutch climbing Burnt Knob on Magruder," as one reviewer recounted, and finding a place that understands your specific needs. This campground offers that perfect blend of rugged appeal and essential comforts that makes all the difference when you're deep in the Idaho wilderness.

Operated by the incredibly helpful Joshua, Riders Rest provides a fantastic self-check-in system, a true blessing for those arriving late on a Saturday night when "Everything seemed closed." This thoughtful approach to guest service, combined with Joshua's willingness to go "WAY beyond what I expected to help me get back on my way," creates an unparalleled level of hospitality. For local Idaho adventurers, whether on two wheels or four, Riders Rest offers not just a place to rest, but a genuine piece of Idaho's welcoming spirit, making it a highly recommended stop on any backcountry journey.

Riders Rest is strategically located at 302 Main St, Elk City, ID 83525, USA. This places it directly within the small, historic town of Elk City, which itself is a vital waypoint for anyone exploring the rugged and remote central Idaho backcountry. Elk City is situated deep in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, at the end of the winding State Highway 14.

For many visitors, Elk City is the jumping-off point or a crucial stop along the Magruder Corridor, a one-of-a-kind, 100-plus-mile unpaved road that traverses 3.5 million acres of wilderness between Elk City, Idaho, and Darby, Montana. As one reviewer stated, they arrived "after riding the 120-or-so miles of the Magruder Corridor from Conner, Montana." This highlights the significant, remote journey many of Riders Rest's guests undertake. While Elk City is "off the beaten path," it's precisely its isolation that makes it so appealing to adventurers, and Riders Rest's central location within town provides easy access to its limited services (like the Elk City General Store) and fuel stops (though gas availability in Elk City can fluctuate, so filling up in Grangeville or Kooskia is often recommended before arrival).

The campground's direct street address ensures straightforward navigation once you reach Elk City. Its easy accessibility within the town, combined with its specialized amenities for riders, makes it an indispensable stop for those tackling the Idaho BDR or other extensive backcountry routes. Despite Elk City's remote nature, Riders Rest serves as a beacon of comfort and convenience for those who venture into this beautiful, isolated corner of Idaho.
