4.0
We recently stayed at this campground with our kids, and while there were some highlights, our overall experience was mixed. On the plus side, our kids had a great time making new friends, and the weekend activities at the pavilion were fun and well-organized.However, the campground felt almost too large to be managed effectively. There’s a lengthy list of rules, but it doesn’t seem like anyone is enforcing them. Campers regularly walked through our site with no regard for personal space, and etiquette was pretty much non-existent.A major safety concern was the number of kids driving golf carts recklessly. We witnessed a group of teens nearly crash into a younger child on an electric scooter — definitely not something you want to see on a family trip. The bathroom near our site was also disappointing. It smelled strongly of feces, and the attached showers reeked of sewage. On top of that, the water temperature was either freezing cold or scalding hot — no in-between.Lastly, we paid for four nights, not realizing that Sawmill City wasn't open, and the campground’s own facilities shut down by 2 p.m. during the week. That left us with very little to do outside of the weekend. This place has potential, especially for social kids, but it needs better oversight, maintenance, and transparency to be worth a return visit. - Cynthia Russell
