Poplar Point Loop G

Apex, NC 27523, USA

4.0
This a great state park with 3 campgrounds close to us. Poplar Point being 1 of them which we stayed at. There are multiple loops with lots of sites. Restrooms are clean but a little dated. Sites are easy to back into and there are some pull through sites but for smaller rigs. Note, timbers outlining the sites aren't really placed good for RV's as they aren't wide enough for RV and living space under your canopy and can cause a tripping hazard. I'd like to see them reworked in the off season, 18' would be a good width, 8' for RV and 8' for awning and rug. But, this shouldn't discourage you from trying out the campgrounds at Jordan Lake. - Byron Horner

Embrace the Outdoors: A Guide to Poplar Point Loop G at Jordan Lake, NC

North Carolina is celebrated for its diverse landscapes, offering everything from coastal beaches to majestic mountains. For many locals, however, the serene beauty and recreational opportunities of its expansive lakes provide the perfect escape. Jordan Lake State Recreation Area stands as a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts in the heart of the state. Within this vast and popular park, Poplar Point Campground is a well-loved choice, and specifically, Poplar Point Loop G offers a unique and enjoyable camping experience. This article is designed to be a comprehensive and factual guide for North Carolina residents considering Poplar Point Loop G for their next outdoor adventure.

Jordan Lake is not just a body of water; it's a vibrant ecosystem, home to diverse wildlife, including the majestic bald eagle, making it a fantastic spot for nature observation. Whether you're a seasoned RV adventurer or a family looking to pitch a tent under the stars, Loop G provides a basecamp from which to explore all that this cherished state park has to offer.

Location and Accessibility

Poplar Point Loop G is nestled within the Poplar Point Campground, located in the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. The general address provided for this area is Apex, NC 27523, USA. More precisely, the main access to Poplar Point Campground is found at 558 Beaver Creek Rd, Apex, NC 27502. Its strategic location in Chatham County, roughly 21 miles southwest of Raleigh, makes it incredibly convenient for residents of the Triangle region (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) and beyond.

Accessing Poplar Point is straightforward via major routes like US 64. If approaching from the west on US 64, you would turn left onto Beaver Creek Road/SR1008. From the east on US 64, a right turn onto Beaver Creek Road/SR1008 will lead you to the campground entrance. Once inside Poplar Point, clear signage guides you to the various loops, including Loop G.

A key aspect of accessibility, particularly for RVs, is the ease of backing into sites. Reviews suggest that sites in Poplar Point are "easy to back into" for many rigs, though some pull-through sites exist primarily for smaller setups. One important note from a user review mentions that "timbers outlining the sites aren't really placed good for RV's as they aren't wide enough for RV and living space under your canopy and can cause a tripping hazard." This suggests that while sites are generally accommodating, RV campers might need to be mindful of these borders for optimal setup and safety. Park gates have specific closing times, and campers should plan their arrival accordingly as there is generally no entry or exit after hours unless in an emergency.
