Ponderosa Group Campground is conveniently located at 150 E Mirror Lake Highway in Kamas, UT 84036. Its position on the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway makes it easily reachable for campers coming from the Wasatch Front and surrounding areas. The drive from Salt Lake City is scenic and manageable, making it an excellent option for a weekend trip. However, as noted by visitors, the final stretch of road leading directly to the campsite is described as steep, rutted, and gravelly. While a short distance, this section requires a vehicle with all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Sedans and low-clearance vehicles are not recommended. For those with suitable vehicles, the accessibility is excellent, providing a direct route to your private group site. The proximity to Kamas means you are not far from essential supplies, while still being immersed in a true wilderness experience. This balance of being close to civilization yet feeling completely off the grid is one of the campground’s most appealing features. The well-maintained main highway ensures a smooth journey for most of the way, and the spectacular views along the scenic byway prepare you for the natural beauty that awaits. The location is an adventure in itself, with a final, short leg of the trip that adds to the feeling of a secluded, special destination. It is a location that truly feels like an escape, and the journey to get there is part of the experience. The elevated, somewhat challenging road to the final site helps to maintain the privacy and exclusivity of the group campground, ensuring that only those who are truly prepared for the experience will find their way to this special spot.
At Ponderosa Group Campground, a range of services and amenities are provided to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all members of your group. These offerings are designed to make your camping experience as seamless as possible, allowing you to focus on the fun and relaxation. The campground is well-equipped with the following:
Public Restrooms: The site includes a clean and well-maintained vault toilet, which visitors have praised for its cleanliness. Having a dedicated restroom facility on-site is a significant convenience for any large group gathering, eliminating the need for guests to rely on more primitive facilities.
Picnic Tables: Ample picnic tables are available for group meals and social gatherings. These tables provide a central gathering point for dining, games, and conversation, making it easy to accommodate everyone in your party.
Tent Sites: The campground offers dedicated tent sites, providing a suitable spot for pitching tents and creating individual sleeping areas within the group site. This flexibility allows for a mix of sleeping arrangements to suit different preferences.
RV Camping: While a group campground, it is also equipped to handle RVs, making it suitable for groups with a variety of camping vehicles. However, it is important to remember the final road to the site is challenging and requires a capable vehicle to navigate, so larger RVs may need to exercise caution.
On-site Parking: There is plenty of on-site parking available, with one visitor noting enough space for at least 20 cars and tents. This is a major advantage for large groups, ensuring that all guests have a place to park their vehicles securely and conveniently near the campsite.
Dog-Friendly: The campground is a welcoming place for pets, as dogs are allowed. This means you can bring your furry companions along on your outdoor adventure, a feature that many campers appreciate when planning a trip with the whole family.
Ponderosa Group Campground stands out for several features and highlights that make it a truly exceptional destination for group camping in Utah. Its unique characteristics contribute to a memorable and highly enjoyable experience for all visitors. Among its top features are:
Private Group Site: This is arguably the most significant highlight. The campground is designed for a single group reservation, meaning you get the entire site and trail to yourselves. This exclusivity provides a level of privacy and freedom that is rare in public campgrounds, allowing your group to relax and socialize without worrying about disturbing others or being disturbed.
Scenic Mountain Trail: A beautiful trail leads directly from the campsite up the mountain. This provides a private and immediate opportunity for hiking and exploring the surrounding nature, a major bonus for a group that loves outdoor activities.
Abundant Trees and Hammock Spots: The campsite is filled with numerous trees, offering plenty of shade and perfect spots for hammocking. This natural feature enhances the campsite's aesthetic and provides additional relaxation options for campers of all ages.

Friendly Hosts: The hosts at the nearby Yellow Pine Campground, who assist with Ponderosa, have been described as pleasant, helpful, and attentive. They ensure the site is clean and ready for guests, which contributes to a positive and stress-free experience.

Ponderosa Group Campground Reviews
This is an amazing group campsite! Lots of trees to hammock on, a nice gathering place in the center, and a beautiful trail leading up the mountain. It was so nice having the site and trail for just our group. There was plenty of space for the 6 families that stayed. I could see it potentially having room for at least 20 cars and tents. The only drawback was the road getting to the campsite. It's short, but it's extremely steep, rutted, and gravelly. I had a hard time getting my Chevy Traverse up. Everyone else had Toyotas or Subarus, and they didn't have a problem. I wouldn't take a sedan; you'd definitely need an all wheel or four-wheel drive vehicle. I talked with the hosts at Yellow Pine Campground before heading up to make sure we were clear to occupy the site. They were so pleasant and happy to help. They kept the site and vault toilet so clean.
June 29 · Jenny HernandezBest way to get all your answers how to run your business the right way and best way too.
February 28 · Bruce LualemagaThis campground is extremely beautiful and just over the hill from the highway so you have no view or sound from passing cars. It feels remote without being too far from town. It’s also great for large groups!
September 28 · Sean SmithWe reserved from the 12th - 15th of April. The camp hosts had our site clearly labeled and raked the site clean of the pine needles which was nice. We had an issue with an ATV riding around the site, and the hosts quickly corrected the riders that use of ATV's is not allowed in the grounds. The one issue with the facility was that the dumping station was closed, and so we had to drive all the way back to Queen Creek with waste tanks full.We had a bit of noise from the highway, but our site was very close to the entrance. if you drive further into the campground, I'm sure you won't hear the traffic on the highway. It's advisable to bring fire wood with you. It is for sale at the campground, but you can get it a lot cheaper in town. Charcoal grills ar also available so bring a bag of that too!Lots of places to explore off the camp grounds. Once you walk out the entrance of the camp you can let your dogs off of their leash. We plan on returning
April 16 · John OwensBest campground we've stayed at. Very clean bathrooms. Johnny and Susan are terrific camp hosts, very friendly and kept the grounds very well maintained. Will be returning.
