Accessibility to POLE CREEK CABIN is part of its charm. Situated at 1455 US-16 in Buffalo, WY, the location places you deep within the stunning landscapes of the Bighorn National Forest. While the main address is straightforward, reaching the cabin itself requires a bit of an adventure. Depending on the season and weather conditions, a high-clearance vehicle may be necessary to navigate the access road. In winter or during periods of heavy snowfall, the road might even be impassable by vehicle, requiring a short hike of about half a mile to the cabin. This adds to the feeling of a secluded, exclusive retreat, and many visitors find that the hike-in is part of the unforgettable experience. It encourages thoughtful packing and a focus on essentials, which is a great lesson for everyone. The remote location ensures a quiet and serene environment, far from the sounds of traffic and crowds, allowing you to fully appreciate the peaceful surroundings.
The cabin itself is a central feature of the POLE CREEK CABIN experience. It is a simple, yet comfortable, structure that can accommodate up to four people. The cabin has kitchen basics, including some pantry items left by previous guests, such as canned goods and fire starters. This "leave some, take some" community spirit is a hallmark of the location, creating a welcoming and resourceful atmosphere. Visitors often find that the little conveniences left by others, like dish detergent or wet wipes, make the stay even more pleasant. A nearby vault toilet with a locking handle provides a clean and private restroom facility. On-site parking is available, but as mentioned, it's worth assessing the road conditions before attempting the final stretch to the cabin, as parking down at the fence and walking is often the most prudent choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1An experience not to be missed. If you want to go back in time to 'simple' and uncomplicated. Unplug, hike in and enjoy the stars, the woodburning stove and the company of your tavel companions or self. You can cook on the top of the stove, the cabin heats up fast with plenty of firewood stocked. The access road was snowed in so we had to hike the 1/2 mile but it was so worth it and the kids learned about having to pack, unpack and repack each day with trips back and forth, and take and use only what is required. Previous guests left a little water, fire starters, some canned goods, paper towels, hand sanitizer, dish detergent, wet wipes. TP is provided so don't take up precious packing room. There were mattresses on the bunks and pillows. Light blankets are all that is required when the wood burning stove it cranked.
December 02 · Lindsay Jackson NicholsNice basic cabin that can sleep four. No electricity, but kitchen basics and a few pantry items were in the cupboards. The vault toilet is across from the cabin with a locking handle. We booked through recreation.gov and the BHNF called us with the code for the door a day or two before our reservation. NOTE: if you do not have a higher clearance vehicle or are not familiar with trail driving, stay parked down at the fence to avoid potentially bottoming out. It is a short walk up to the cabin.
August 04 · T FittiThis place was amazing. Ski trail was easy enough for first timers. Nice bunk beds! Sturdy. ;) Wood burning stove kept us cozy even as the snow fell. There were blankets kitchen gear and other accoutrement in case you forgot. Even a mostly empty bottle of whiskey! Coleman lantern ftw!
April 09 · Jonathan MusserSuch a beautiful, secluded, cozy place! Our only complaint was that the mattresses on the beds are fabric and are so filthy and old, they make you feel gross sleeping on them.
January 09 · Laura EllisA good, get the family together, place. Couple of places to walk to or drive to. Cabin has 4 beds, sink and kitchen table. Wood stove heat or cooking surface. Extras left by other tenants. Fire pit close to cabin. Old outhouse used for dry wood storage. Newer outhouse near to cabin.
