4.0
It was a bit more crowded than I was hoping for but everyone was really friendly and helpful. We had our dogs off leash as did everyone else and that was fine. The water was perfect for swimming. We also did kayaking. The ground was pretty rocky so bring water shoes and don't plan on getting a good sandy spot unless you get up to the lake waaaaay early. We got there about 11:30 and it was hard to find a spot. Beautiful view of the mountains and incredibly fun to swim and play in the water. 💙 - Jenna Byrne

Point Campground Introduce

For Oregonians who dream of a refreshing escape where crystal-clear waters meet majestic mountain backdrops, Point Campground on Elk Lake stands out as a truly idyllic destination. Nestled within the expansive Deschutes National Forest and easily accessible from Bend, this charming campground offers a quintessential Central Oregon outdoor experience. Imagine spending your days swimming in the cool, inviting waters of Elk Lake, paddling a kayak across its serene surface, or simply relaxing by the shore with breathtaking views of Mt. Bachelor and South Sister. While it can be a popular spot, especially during peak summer days, the friendly atmosphere and abundant water activities make it a beloved choice for locals seeking a memorable lakeside adventure. Point Campground provides that perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunity that defines Oregon's outdoor lifestyle.

Point Campground is conveniently located on County Road 46, Bend, OR 97701, USA, which is more commonly known as the Cascade Lakes Highway. This scenic byway is a well-traveled route from Bend, making the campground relatively easy to reach for many Oregon residents. Situated directly on the shores of Elk Lake, its location is a primary draw for water enthusiasts. While the main access road is paved, and visitors can drive directly to the campground, it's worth noting that the specific sites themselves are nestled in a natural, sometimes rocky, terrain. One past visitor noted, "The ground was pretty rocky so bring water shoes and don't plan on getting a good sandy spot unless you get up to the lake waaaaay early." This suggests that while access to the lake is direct, the shoreline immediately adjacent to the campsites might be more rugged. Despite the potential for some road noise due to its proximity to the Cascade Lakes Highway, reviews indicate that the road isn't "horribly busy," allowing for a generally quiet environment. Its location within the Deschutes National Forest also means it's part of a larger network of trails and natural features, easily explored via the scenic byway. For those arriving later in the day during peak season, finding a spot right on the lake can be challenging, underscoring its popularity and the value of early arrival.
